2012 Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Just released! This is the "Special Selection" bottling, following on the heels of the regular 2012 Caymus Napa Valley bottling which (while celebrating the winery's 40th anniversary) was the most popular wine we've sold in 2015. We are awaiting reviews and scores on the wine, but given the quality of the 2012 vintage in Napa, and the fact that the regular bottling received 96 points from Robert Parker, it's a safe bet to assume this is going to be incredibly well received by the press. *please note: due to btls length this wine will need to ship in st... 2012 Lewis Cellars "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
2012 Lewis Cellars "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

This is a sure-thing for those of you looking for a top 2012 Napa Cabernet. In this highly-regarded California vintage, Randy and Debbie Lewis continue to impress us with their ability to produce intense, powerful wines that seamlessly match decadence with elegance. Expect this to get huge reviews as the press gets a chance to taste and review it. The 2009 and 2010 scored 94 and 96 points, respectively, with Wine Spectator, and even 93 for the slightly less full-throttle 2011. The big wine is back, says Lewis Cellars in their tasting note for this new ... Read More »

2012 Araujo "Altagracia" Napa Valley Proprietary Red

91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Araujo’s second wine, the 2012 Proprietary Red Altagracia exhibits beautiful blueberry, black raspberry and cassis fruit which reflects the purity that frequently comes from this vineyard. The tannins are soft, and the wine is lighter than its bigger sibling, but it possesses medium body, velvety tannin, and a gorgeous mouthfeel. Already approachable, this seductive, plush 2012 should age effortlessly for 10-15 years. (RP)" (10/2014) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "The 2012 Altagracia is soft, supple and pretty. The wine is deep, multidimensional, full-bodied, rich and opulent with a voluptuous texture. Even as a barrel sample, this stunning effort is irresistible. This deep, prodigious 2012 should be approachable when released and age effortlessly for 25-30 years. Opus One "Overture" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

Since 1993, Overture, the second wine of Opus, has been only available at the winery and a few select restaurants. This release is a blend of the 2007, 2010, and 2011 vintages. Made exactly like Opus One and sourced from the same estate vineyards, Overture is also a classic Bordeaux blend with Cabernet Sauvignon making up around 70%. Overture is made to be enjoyed upon release. We tasted this the other day, and it was delicious. It smells and tastes like Opus, but with a bit less depth and power than the first wine, making it more enjoyable now. The tann... Read More »

2012 Far Niente Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
2012 Far Niente Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A great effort from Far Niente in this truly magnificent vintage, with its similarities to 2002, the Far Niente 2012 Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon has a dense purple color, plenty of structure and aging potential, and an impressive inner core of sweet crème de cassis fruit, licorice and background vanilla. This wine is still very much an infant in its evolution, and should keep for 20-30 years. Many 2012s are excessively generous, open-knit and fleshy, but this is holding a lot back. And wow, it is “locked and loaded.” I wouldn’t be surprised to see this w ...Read More »

2013 Peter Michael "Belle Cote" Sonoma Country Chardonnay

95-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Belle Côte vineyard, adjacent to La Carrière, sits at a high elevation of 1,400-1,700 feet on steep slopes with thicker soils and an east-facing exposure. This site produces some of the most opulent and decadent of the Peter Michael Chardonnays. The 2013 Chardonnay Belle Côte possesses terrific notes of marzipan, tropical pineapples, Mandarin oranges and nectarines, along with great intensity, lots of minerality, and a pronounced exotic style. 2013 Peter Michael "La Carriere" Knights Valley Chardonnay

92-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A smaller crop than normal because of a 20-30% loss of fruit from wind damage explains the production of the 2013 Chardonnay La Carrière. However, there are still nearly 2,000 cases of the 2013 (as opposed to 2,510 of the 2012), which exhibits lots of powdered mineral, honeysuckle, and orange marmalade characteristics, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, crisp acidity and impressive purity. A layered, lush, Pomerol-inspired Cabernet Sauvignon, it offers up notes of Christmas fruitcake, forest floor, underbrush, plums and red and blackcurrants. Sweet tannins, a succulent, fleshy mouthfeel, beautiful concentration and texture, and a long finish result in a sumptuous, irresistible mouthful of Cabernet Sauvignon. 2011 Hirsch "San Andreas Fault" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Hirsch "San Andreas Fault" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (94W&S, 92AG, 90BH, 90ST). Wine & Spirits: "This is delicious and utterly transparent coastal juice, electric in its tones of red plum and blood orange. A cedar bark tang gives it gravitas—as if recalling the eons of redwood mulch that built the soil on the uplifted marine sedimentary ridges of the Sonoma Coast. San Andreas—referencing the fault responsible for that uplift—draws on both older vines planted in the early 1990s and newer blocks planted in 2002, painting a picture of the entire Hirsch estate in a given vintage. While some Sonoma vineyards were challenged by rain prior to the 2011 harvest, winemaker Ross Cobb saw Hirsch’s sunny ridges ripen Pinot Noir before the October storms arrived. This feels beautifully formed; its taut delicacy would be irresistible with grilled sea bass. " (08/2014)

94 points Antonio Galloni: "The full sensuality of 2012 comes through in Plumpjack's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon. Rich, layered and sumptuous in the glass, the 2012 is absolutely striking. Espresso, mocha, rose petals and spices wrap around the radiant finish. This is such a gorgeous example of the year and one of the truly great sites in Napa Valley. The Reserve gets most of the attention at Plumpjack, but in the 2012, the straight Cabernet Sauvignon is nearly as stellar. 2011 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

94 points Antonio Galloni: "Savory herbs, menthol, smoke and licorice are some of the aromas that open up in the glass in the 2011 Dominus. This is a relatively immediate, expressive Dominus with plenty of near-term appeal. The style is open and succulent for the year, with lovely balance and poise. Crushed rose petals and dried herbs linger in the close. With time in the glass, the 2011 fleshes out nicely. In 2011 Dominus is 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc... 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bryant’s flagship wine, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon from the estate vineyard on Pritchard Hill offers a rare but magnificent forest floor/floral aromatic profile with lavishly rich, ripe notes of crème de cassis, blueberry and black raspberry liqueur. Fleshy, opulent, full-bodied and multidimensional, it conceals some significant tannins behind its wealth of extract and fruit. With time in the glass, the 2011 fleshed out beautifully while retaining a classic, mid-weight profile. My sense is that the 2011 will develop along the lines of the 1994, a wine that remains distinctly floral, savory and medium in body, with less of the explosiveness of years such as 1985 or 1997, but with tons of class and style. It is going to be interesting to find out. The 2011 was bottled just a few months ago, so I will not be surprised if it ...Read More »

It boasts a dense purple color, complex notes of spice box, Christmas fruitcake, blackcurrant jam, mulberries and spring flowers, as well as a full-bodied, opulent personality. 2009 Cobb "Joy Road" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2009 Cobb "Joy Road" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (93RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Pinot Noir Joy Road Vineyard comes across as a bit tight and unyielding today as the acidity and tannins are both quite dominant at this stage. Firm tannins frame dark red/blue-hued fruit in this linear, structured Pinot. The 2009 needs time to fully come together. This is an unusually pointed, chiseled Pinot for the vintage. Accordingly, it needs time to flesh out in bottle. There is a lot to admire in this nuanced, vibrant Pinot, but patience is the key. Ross Cobb used 10% whole clusters here. The 2009 is the last Joy Road. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025." (04/2013)

2008 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Juicy, vibrant and intense; less dense than the 2007 but more perfumed in the mid-palate. Very fine-grained wine, finishing long and aromatic, with firm tannic bite and a late note of bitter chocolate. 'Two thousand eight was an impossible year to make 15% wines with a 4.0 pH in Napa Valley,' said Bo Barrett, adding that 'it's more fun to be working in the classical world. Playing it closer to the vest than its siblings, with coaxing, it reveals some extraordinarily ripe, rich blueberry and blackberry fruit intermixed with hints of charcoal, scorched earth and wet rocks. 2010 Cain "Five" Spring Mountain District Bordeaux Blend

In basic terms, Cain "Five" is just that: the estate's top blend of Bordeaux varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. The exact percentages of each are listed on the label, but that, as winemaker Chris Howell will tell you, does not explain anything. While it may seem like everybody talks a big game about their terroir, a lot of wineries are playing the point-score game, too, with heavily extracted wines from late-harvested grapes--a scene that Cain has quietly excused itself from--although James Suckling found his ... 96 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full medium-deep ruby. Knockout nose of currant, roasted stone, tobacco, leather and smoked meat, all lifted by sexy oak tones. Lush, sweet and extremely concentrated, with the trademark seamlessness shown by Turley's wines of all varietal persuasions. Strongly minerally, with a complicating note of dried herbs. A horizontal wine that spreads out impressively on the palate; tannins are broad and sweet. Tasting these three vintages from youngest to oldest offered a fascinating illustration of how masterful elevage enables a wine from an outstanding site t ...Read More »

2012 Hourglass "Blueline Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Blueline is a little more inward and mineral-driven in style than the Hourglass Cabernet. Bittersweet chocolate, dark cherries, violets and spices meld together effortlessly. Today the 2012 is a bit inward and reticent, but it should start to open in another year or two. (Antonio Galloni)" (12/2014) K&L Notes: "It was the Cabernet Sauvignon blocks at Blueline Estate Vineyard that first seduced me into working with Hourglass," says winemaker Tony Biagi, whose first harvest with the winery was 2012. "The team had meticulously replanted many ... Read More »

2013 Aubert "UV-SL Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay

96 points Antonio Galloni: "Dried pear, apricot pit, spices and crushed rocks blossom in the 2013 Chardonnay UV-SL Vineyard. Here the flavors are vivid, nuanced and resonant to the core. Brighter, saline-infused notes emerge as the wine opens up in the glass. This is another striking Chardonnay endowed with magnificent balance of generous fruit and explosive energy. Readers can look forward to a decade-plus of exceptional drinking. (AG)" (1/2015) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Chardonnay UV-SL is made from two selections of Old Wente Chardonnay clones planted in classic Goldridge sandy soils. 2010 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Martha's Vineyard is certinaly one of the most important Napa Valley bottlings over the last half century, and is one of the last wines to be released from any given vintage. The CCOF organically certified vineyard in Oakville has been the flagship bottling of Heitz since 1966. From the winery: "A great success in a challenging year, this wine is a true testament to the vitality of Martha's Vineyard itself. A very inviting wine with rich aromas of boysenberry, cassis and mint all tightly woven around a sweet core. On the palate this Cabernet is firm with... Read More »

2003 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Dominus is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot (14.1% alcohol). Remarkably, it is the 20th vintage for Christian Moueix. Always a Bordeaux-inspired wine with restraint yet substance as well as a textured richness, the 2003 exhibits a deep plum/ruby/purple color, a creamy, opulent texture, no hard edges, and a wonderful sweetness of foresty, black currant and cherry fruit mixed with underbrush and hints of Chinese black tea. Well-proportioned and full-bodied, yet never over-stated or out of balance, this is an ...Read More »

1986 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Two of the most impressive wines in these tastings, both of Dunn's 1986s tasted like 3-4-year old Cabernets rather than 10-year old adolescents. The opaque purple-colored 1986 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain offers awesome richness, mindboggling intensity, huge tannin, a massive mouthfeel, and a closed yet formidably long, well-endowed finish. This wine could be put in a tasting of 1994 California Cabernets and not stand out as a 10-year old wine. Give it another 5-7 years of cellaring and drink it over the subsequent 25-30 years ... amazing! (RP) ...Read More »

1997 Etude Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon...ranks alongside the finest Tony Soter has produced. Don't miss it! Opaque purple-colored, with a gorgeously seamless personality, this unfined/unfiltered wine exhibits classic aromas of cassis, licorice, chocolate, and toast. Rich and full-bodied, with sweet tannin, a multilayered mid-palate, and a terrific finish, it possesses accessibility and opulence, but its balance and overall concentration suggest it will age for two decades or more." 2007 Sea Smoke "Southing" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "A fabulously rich and approachable Pinot Noir that offers everything now, yet will also age. The considerable tannins will protect it in the cellar for a good 6-8 years, but it's so fresh and vibrant in cherries, red currants and oak-inspired red licorice that it's hard not to drink it now. Hard to exaggerate the deliciousness factor." (3/2010)90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Vivid red. Expressive aromas of cherry compote, blackberry, licorice and smoky herbs. Lush, creamy cherry and dark berry flavors provide very good palate coverage and are framed by velvety tannins. A plush, weighty ...Read More »
