93 points James Suckling: "Fabulously dense and flavorful. Aromas of sliced green pears and lemons follow through to a full body with a rich and tangy aftertaste. I like the lemon grass and herb undertones. Flinty too. A blend of pinot blanc, chardonnay and sauvignon banc. Drink now." (7/2014) Wine Enthusiast: "A blend of 60% Pinot Bianco, 30% Chardonnay and 10% Sauvignon, this reveals a fragrance of white flowers and tree fruit. The juicy palate delivers white peach, yellow apple and a mineral note alongside fresh acidity." (6/2014)
This white is soft, creamy and lush, a bit reminiscent of lemon meringue pie, with sweet citrus scents and flavors wrapped in spice. Delicious on its own, this is not a wine that needs a three-course meal to taste good. Try it as an alternative to Chardonnay at your next party. Pinot Blanc has a long tradition in Alsace, and this is an easy-going example to get to know.
92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice" Rich and floral, this top-notch Pinot Blanc hits the palate with verve and ripe, complex fruit flavors. There’s a streak of delicious vanilla under the honeydew and Meyer lemon richness, and the length and power are especially impressive for a Pinot Blanc." (2/2014)90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The WillaKenzie 2012 Pinot Blanc-from two Alsace clones-is dominated by sweet corn and apple, garlanded in lily-of-the-valley and tinged with piquant corn shoots; saliva-liberating salt; and smoky black tea. Creamy yet vivacious and infectiously juicy-revealing a charming alli ...Read More »

89 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is rich and concentrated, spice as well as pear and melon flavors. It is complex, with almond and nutmeg notes, balanced by the taut acidity that completes a full, ripe wine." (12/2012) Jancis Robinson: "This gives a good example of that elusive thing, 'minerality'. Generous, ripe stone fruit. Who said Pinot Blanc was neutral!" (5/2013) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, pale straw. Beeswax and white flowers on the nose. Nicely concentrated and balanced on the palate, with notes of honey, butter and spices complicating the ripe stone fruits. Finishes clean and persistent. You can tell there's ...Read More »
The 2012 Abtei Muri Sudtirol "Weiss" is a blend of 70% Pinot Bianco and 30% Pinot Grigio grown in the village of Appiano/Eppan in a southeast facing vineyard with predominantly gravelly limestone soils at elevations from 1500 to over 2000 feet, with vines aged 20-30 years. The wines from this area exhibit a persistent saltiness to go along with the excellent acidic balance. Winemaker Christian Werth ferments in stainless steel and then ages it for 15 months in large wooden casks with a weekly lees stirring. This wine can age easily for another 5-8 year... Read More »
Quiet, focused, precise, and passionate. These words describe Hanjörg Rebholz and his wines perfectly. He reminds us a lot of Franconian vintner Paul Fürst, and both men are revered highly by winemaking colleagues throughout Germany. Each has a self assured presence, and please don't waste your breath telling them Germany can't make dry wine. In fact, in Germany, Fürst and Rebholz are regarded as two of Germany's greatest dry wine estates. They are masters within their respective regions. This wine shows earthy minerals, aromas of ash and spiced melon. O... Read More »
A delightful blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Blanc, from the village of Corgoloin.
From Gouge's mutant Pinot Noir vines that turned white. A true Blanc de Pinot!
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "The wine is rich, full in the mouth and delicious. With its creamy texture, baked apple flavors and sprinkling of spice, it’s a dense and ripe wine that could be drunk now, but which will be better in 2016." (12/2014) Wine Spectator: "Floral and lightly honeyed, this fresh white is focused by racy acidity and a streak of stony mineral. Lacy and lithe, with ripe apricot and blood orange notes. Drink now through 2017." (10/2014)
Regarded as one of Germany's top producers of Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), Friedrich Becker also produces outstanding white wines, including this delicious Pinot Blanc from the limestone soils of the Pfalz. Picked at optimum ripeness with naturally high acidity and fermented in stainless steel, this Pinot Blanc is crisp, clean, and refreshing, with cool melon and stone fruit aromas and flavors underscored by some serious wet stone minerality. Citrus blossom accents add lift to the nose and palate. There's nice weight here, balanced by tangy acidity, leadi... Read More »
This very small production of Pinot Blanc is only bottled in these elegant little half bottles (375 ml) and Magnums (1.5L) because, according to the folks at Robert Sinskey, "you should either start with it, or party with it... there is no in-between!" Might we add, picnic with it? This 100% organic and biodynamic Pinot Blanc was fermented in stainless steel to preserve its natural freshness and pure varietal character. The delicate aromas and flavors and richness on the palate balanced by clean acidity make it the perfect pairing for fried seafood or fi... Read More »
Gut Hermannsberg is the privately owned, modern incarnation of what used to be the Nahe's State Domaine. With the estate management and winemaking in very capable hands, this new label is now available in the U.S. and has plenty to show off. "All of Gut Hermannsberg's vineyards are rated as Erste Lage, or first-growth. These hillsides frequently show 50% incline, along with the Nahe's customary kaleidoscope of soil types and terroir possibilities," notes importer Winemonger, who describes the style and provenance of their Weissburgunder as "a juicy wine ... This estate was established in 1845 and is now run by the ninth generation of the Wagner family, Daniel Wagner. Wagner was named "newcomer of the year" by the Gault Millau/German Wine Guide in 2009, and according to importer Rudi Wiest, he has arrived. "This selection offers a rich aromatic perfume of cashew, honeydew melon and mineral," Wiest continues. "On the palate the wine is elegant, displaying a fine mineral structure, a touch of oak with delicate floral notes and flavors of lemon, melon and apple."
