2006 Castello di Monsanto "Nemo" Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Nemo Vigneto Il Mulino (Cabernet Sauvignon) is a more overt, fruit-driven wine than Il Poggio in this vintage. Sweet scents of French oak meld into blackberries, blueberries, licorice and grilled herbs. The fruit remains extremely primary, while the oak is a touch prominent, both of which suggest further cellaring is needed for all of the elements to come together. A rich, textured, creamy finish provides the final exclamation point to this superb, pedigreed Nemo. This distinctly Tuscan Cabernet seems to get better and better with each passing v ...Read More »

2011 La Massa "Giorgio Primo" Toscana Top Pick!
2011 La Massa "Giorgio Primo" Toscana

95 points James Suckling: "Captivating aromas of blueberries, raspberries, violets and orange peel. Full body with crazy tannins." (9/2013)94 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2011 Giorgio Primo is just as beautiful today as it was last year, even if it has barely budged since then. Blackberry jam, spices, licorice, smoke and new leather meld together in a seamless voluptuous wine endowed with superb depth and pure textural richness. The oak still needs time to integrate, but there is a lot to look forward to here." (9/2014)91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Giorgio Primo is the latest edition of one of my favorite Tuscan blends. Cabernet S ...Read More »

2010 Sapaio Bolgheri Superiore

95 points James Suckling: "Aromas of blueberries and currants. Very bright and pretty. Full body with lovely tannins, a fine texture and a fresh finish. Pretty and refined. Best ever from here. A blend of 70 per cent cabernet sauvignon, 10 per cent cabernet franc and 10 per cent petit verdot. Better in 2015." (11/2013)93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Bolgheri Superiore Sapaio is even darker with thick blackness at its rim. It's a brawny and thickly layered expression with dark blackberry, prune, tobacco, leather and crushed granite or dark mineral. Herbal flavors appear on the close and the tannins still ...Read More »

Wine Enthusiast: " **Cellar Selection** Recently implemented winemaker and cellar changes make this one of the best Sassicaias ever. This Cabernet Sauvignon-Cabernet Franc blend delivers thick concentration and sun-kissed aromas of black fruit, prune, dried bay leaf, black olive and tobacco. The thick, fertile soils that characterize the magical strip of coastal Tuscany at Bolgheri help shape amazing richness and intensity."

2010 Antinori "Solaia" Toscana

98 points James Suckling: "A triumph for Solaia. It suggests the greatness of the legendary 1997 Solaia. This is a wine with very subtle and complex aromas and flavors with currants, licorice and raspberries. Wonderful nose. Full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a long, long finish. It lasts for minutes on the palate. Love this wine. The precision of the cabernet sauvignon comes through here. Better in 2016." (9/2013)97 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2010 Solaia is even better than the Tignanello. Here, too, it is the wine's energy and sheer vibrancy that stand out most. 2011 San Guido "Sassicaia" Bolgheri

94 points James Suckling: "Wonderful aromas of freshly sliced coastal rosemary and currants follow through to a full body, with integrated tannins and a fine finish. This shows so much finesse and beauty. But there is a solid backbone of tannins and length. Reminds me of some of the underrated Sass of the 1980s such as 1982, 1983 or 1987. Try after 2018." (5/2014)94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aromas suggest blackberry, cedar and Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, notes of tobacco, licorice, exotic spice and cranberry accent the juicy black-cherry core. It’s well balanced and elegant, with silky tannins. Drink ...Read More »

2011 Ornellaia "Le Serre Nuove"

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A gorgeous wine, the 2011 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuovo dell-Ornellaia (57% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot and 12% Cabernet Franc) opens with an inky dark, almost impenetrable appearance and beautifully chiseled - but abundantly intense - aromas of blackberry, dried cherry, rum cake, leather, moist pipe tobacco and chewy black licorice. The balance and harmony are seductive and impressive and the wine lasts many long seconds on the palate. Noticeable tannic backbone gives us hope in its cellar potential. Goes on for minutes. This is amazing and firm, with a racy character. Best after 2016." (9/2011)97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Ornellaia continues to blossom in the bottle. Dark cherries, chocolate, espresso, blackberries and mocha are just some of the many notes that explode from the glass. A rich tapestry of licorice, tar and camphor notes develop in the glass, adding considerable complexity. The 2008 is a huge, structure ...Read More »

2011 Antinori "Solaia" Toscana

96 points Antonio Galloni: "Blackberry jam, cassis, grilled herbs and melted road tar meld together in the 2011 Solaia. Another super-exotic, racy 2011 from Antinori, Solaia is supremely beautiful. Mocha, espresso and sage are some of the many notes that add complexity. Hints of white truffle, lavender, smoke and licorice are laced into the exotic, racy finish. In 2011, Solaia has a dollop more of Cabernet Franc in the blend, added to give the wine a touch of freshness. Ripe and flashy to the core, the 2011 needs time to lose some of its youthful exuberance. At times, the 2011 coul ...Read More »

A juicy, succulent finish. One of the best ever. Drink or hold." (10/2014)91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Guidalberto (Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) impresses for the approachable, yet intriguing, delivery of fruit. The style is fruit-forward and ripe, yet the wine is not banal. There’s a fluidity to the bouquet that brings it to cherry and blackberry with soft tones of leather and tobacco woven deep within. (8/2012)90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Sancta Catharina is 30% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah and 10% Petit Verdot, aged in French oak barrels. It is a decidedly powerful, structured wine bursting with blackberry jam, violets, menthol, licorice and French oak. (AG)" (6/2012)90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark ruby. 2007 Castello dei Rampolla "Vigna d'Alceo" Toscana

It is a dark, inward wine imbued with black fruit, roasted coffee beans, grilled herbs and licorice, all of which build effortlessly towards the huge, explosive finish. This exquisite d’Alceo will require significant patience. d’Alceo remains a model of the level French varieties can reach in Tuscany. In 2007 the blend is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot. Here's a delicious Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend from cntral Italy's Lazio. It's self-described by the winery as "a red wine with an intense ruby color and bold and persistent aromas that recall black fruits like blackberry and blueberry, accompanied by scents of spice and an elegant vanilla note, along with an austere one from bottle aging. The mouthfeel is balanced, persistent and quite elegant."

2010 Casanova di Neri "Pietradonice" Tuscany (Pre-Arrival, Elsewhere $65+)

92 points James Suckling: "The 2010 Pietradonice is beautiful in this vintage. A wine more of Montalcino than a true expression of Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2010 is delineated and vibrant from start to finish. Savory herbs lead to black plums, tobacco, mocha and crushed rocks on the firm, vibrant finish. I am not a huge fan of international varieties in Montalcino, but there is no question the Pietradonice is endowed with tons of vintage character, and 2010 is a superb vintage for this part of Tuscany in particular. Bid on this bottle of 2004 Tenuta San Guido "Sassicaia" Bolgheri (97ST, 97WE, 94JS, 94WS, 93RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby-red. Captivatingly intense yet refined aromas of ripe red cherry, mint, smoke and black truffle, complicated by lovely mineral and floral elements. Ripe, rich and velvety on entry, then concentrated in the middle, with flavors of red cherry, cassis, spices, bay leaf, dark chocolate and espresso. Amazingly well balanced and fresh wine, with sound, bright acids supplying wonderful lift and precision and smooth, noble tannins adding considerable power and grace. The finish goes on for minutes, highlighted by an enchanting floral-mineral quality; in my experience, the appearance of this strong floral component (in the absence of herbal or peppery aromas and flavors more typical of lesser vintages) at this early stage of development is typical of the greatest versions of Sassicaia. One of the top dozen Sassicaia bottlings ever." (01/2011

This fresh, vibrant offering is packed with dense ripe fruit. This is an especially rich, heavy style of Solaia that lacks the subtlety and grace of the finest vintages. Still, in 2001 Solaia is a more complete wine than Tignanello. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2021. (AG)" (01/2009)

2002 Tenuta San Guido "Sassicaia" Bolgheri

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium saturated ruby-red. Fresh aromas of blackcurrant, graphite, herbs and mocha. Intense flavors of minty blackberry and cedar, complicated by leather and minerals and a hint of tomato paste. This has filled out considerably with time in bottle and now shows less of the green edges that were apparent a few years ago. Another very good example of how lesser vintages of Sassicaia improve markedly with time; I probably underrated this wine in my initial evaluation. Though 2002 was a horrific, rain-plagued vintage, insiders know that it rained less i ...Read More »

2003 Montevetrano Colli di Salerno
Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2003 Montevetrano Colli di Salerno (94RP, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Montevetrano is one of the revelations in this tasting. Layers of dark, baritone fruit form the building blocks, followed by suggestions of leather, spices and earthiness that add richness and complexity. Incisive and muscular throughout, the 2003 impresses for its overall sense of balance, something that was very hard to come by in this torrid vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2025... Montevetrano is approximately 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Aglianico (the international varieties were planted on the existing Aglianico rootstocks) although the exact blend changes from year to year depending on vintage conditions. Imparato makes it clear she isn’t a big fan of giving the exact breakdown in each vintage, so readers should take the varietal blend as a rough guideline.
