2007 York Creek "Springhouse Block" Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
2007 York Creek "Springhouse Block" Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon

After the last few years I think just about everyone has heard us pontificating about just how good, and how insanely inexpensive, the York Creek wines are. Luckily for us and our thirsty customers Fritz Maytag kept deep cellars over the years and still has plenty of wine for us to sell. After the rousing success of past vintages we just keep reloading because the wines are that good and you keep asking us for more. Our latest find is four wines from the mid-2000s, all 100% Cabernet and is from single blocks on the Estate. These wines were all made by Fr... Read More »

2007 Joseph Swan "Trenton Estate" Russian River Valley Syrah

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Opaque ruby. Black and blue fruits on the nose, complicated by notes of black cardamom and candied violet. Spicy and precise on entry, then fleshier in the mid-palate, offering sweet blackberry and boysenberry flavors lifted by zesty acidity. The smoky, sweet, clinging finish leaves a note of cracked pepper behind." (5/2012) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a notable wine for its smooth, supple tannins and its intense flavors of black cherry jam, mocha, bacon, black pepper and sandalwood. (RP)" (2/2010) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale chartreuse color. Alluringly complex bouquet displays ripe pear, peach pit, smoky lees, sweet butter and minerals; smells like a grand cru Burgundy. 2007 Cain "Concept-The Benchlands" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

You won't find any reviews for Cain's current releases, since the winery stopped sending their offerings out to the critics in the early 2000s. It's probably for the best, since their wines don't fit into the big, powerhouse box that many critics have built for top-scoring wines. Cain's wines, rather, are finessed and balanced, with a chalky thread running through their entire lineup. Even in the incredibly ripe 2007 vintage, this blend of Cabernet (57%), Merlot (15%), Cab Franc (13%), and Petit Verdot (12%) is quite balanced, if a little more generous t... Read More »

2007 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

94 points Wine Spectator: "Very complex, intense and spicy, delivering intense, persistent and rich dried berry flavors. (Web Only-2012)" 91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*One Star* Ripe and rich, very nicely concentrated, focused on black cherry fruit with touches of dried violets, cinnamon-like spice and quiet hints of dark chocolate, this very delicious wine feels just a bit on the blocky, slightly tough side at present but has the depth and beauty to insure that it gets better and better over time. A distinct liqueur of minerals buttresses the full-bodied, massive concentration, giving an overall impression of elegance, purity, and harmony. This is another seamless tour de force in winemaking. 2007 Mount Eden Estate Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon

98 points Wine & Spirits: "Open every stop on your Cabernet church organ: Pure cassis. Mountain freshness. Baking spice. The pencil lead of Graves in that less-than-overripe varietal character. This is unadulterated Cabernet pleasure, three words that have never come together in my mind before. Grown at an elevation of 1,800 feet, 14 miles from the coast, this vineyard traces its heritage back to Chateau Margaux, where Emmet Rixford selected cuttings for La Questa in the 1890s. Martin Ray propagated cuttings from these vines to plant Mount Eden in the 1940s, replanted in the 1980s ...Read More »

(5/2010) K&L Notes: 2007's monster red is a blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Syrah and 14% Merlot, and it knocks your socks off with bold aromatics and flavors of blueberry, boysenberry, vanilla cookie dough and holiday spice. It reveals more tropical fruit, pineapple, orange marmalade, lemon blossom, creme brulee, and white peach notes as well as superb acidity, and a full-bodied texture as well as mouthfeel. It, too, will age well for a decade." (2/2010) 95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright yellow. 2007 Saxum "Heart Stone Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The late-released 2007 Heart Stone, which spent 28 months in a combination of barrels, demi-muids, and pungeons, turned out to be a final blend of 65% Syrah, 21% Grenache, and 14% Mourvedre. Like all of Justin Smith’s 2007s, it is a riveting, sensational wine that carries its heavy weight, profound richness, and intensity very gracefully. That is no doubt an effect of the limestone soils of this region. Bid on this bottle of 2007 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (99RP, 96CG, 96WS, 95JS, 94ST, 94WE, 91W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aged 24 months in new French oak, this infant 2007 exhibits an inky/purple color along with notes of graphite, spring flowers and smoky oak. This full-bodied, classic Insignia reveals fabulous depth, ripeness, texture, viscosity and richness. Still young and unformed, it should evolve for 25 or more years. Perhaps I should just go ahead and give this 2007 a three-digit score as it is a profoundly great Cabernet Sauvignon-based effort. The production was 13,500 cases of this 100% estate fruit blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. The alcohol came in at 14.5%. The growing season was nearly ideal, with early bud break, generous flowering, a bountiful crop size, and summer weather that was warm and dry with no significant heat spikes. 2007 Martinelli "Jackass Vineyard" Russian River Valley Zinfandel

There are slightly fewer than 400 cases of this beauty, which should drink well for a decade or more. (RP)" (12/2008) 95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. It wasn’t the easiest vintage, as 2007 was, but meticulous winemaking did the job, resulting in this amazingly rich, impressively ripe wine that’s drinkable now and will develop for many years. Layers of dark red fruit, blackberries, flowers, mint and licorice emerge from this seamless, large-scaled wine. This is a rich, opulent 2007 that never abandons its traditional sense of structure. The oak has been pushed to the background, and the floral, honeyed citrus fruit notes dominate. The wine is beautifully textured and capable of lasting up to a decade or more. (RP)" (02/2011)

2007 L'Aventure "Côte à Côte" Estate Paso Robles Rhône Blend

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Just as good, the 2007 Cote a Cote starts out tight and reserved, but blossoms with time in the glass, showing incredibly pure creme de cassis, black cherry, licorice and spice-driven aromas and flavors. These all flow to a full-bodied, deep, rich and layered profile on the palate that carries beautiful concentration, excellent overall purity and freshness, and a blockbuster finish. Still youthful and vibrant, with obvious structure, I think there’s some upside here, and when all is said and done, it will have upward of two decades or more of total longe ...Read More »

2007 Hundred Acre "Ark Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2007 Hundred Acre "Ark Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (100RP, 97ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A perfect wine, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Ark Vineyard (1,300 - 1,400 cases) from Howell Mountain is one of the great efforts from this high elevation terroir. It offers notes of burning embers, black raspberries, blueberries and flowers, a full-bodied opulence, wonderful intensity, but the wine is not weighty or overripe. Fleshy and voluptuous with terrific floral notes, it should drink well for 15-20 years." (12/2010)

2007 Martinelli "Giuseppe & Luisa" Russian River Valley Zinfandel

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dark ruby/purple-tinged 2007 Zinfandel Giuseppe & Luisa offers sweet aromas of plums, roasted meats, pepper, kirsch, roasted herbs, and figs. This deep, dense, full-bodied effort is a singular, hedonistic style of Zinfandel that should provide immense pleasure over the next 5-6 years." (12/2008) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby-red. Exotically perfumed, slightly smoky bouquet of raspberry, blueberry, sandalwood and cracked pepper. The palate offers nervier red fruits, along with surprisingly graceful floral qualities and silky texture. There's something almost pinot-like (!) ...Read More »

2007 Twomey Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (Previously 50)

If you love California Pinot, you need to make sure to get your hands on plenty of the 2007 vintage, which is proving to be extraordinary. The 2007 Twomey Sonoma Coast is a great example of what cool climate locales were able to achieve in the vintage. Elegant and well-balanced with pure red fruit on the nose and palate and underlying hints of milk chocolate, rose petals and cherry with fine-grained tannins on the long finish. This isn't a blockbuster Pinot, but something quite pretty, with a number of years ahead of it.

2007 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC)
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC - 100RP, 97JS, 97ST, 96WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The prodigious 2007 Harlan Estate reminds me of a hypothetical blend of the 2002 with a touch of the controversial 1997. Dense plum/purple-colored with sweet aromas of barbecue smoke, blueberries, blackberries, cassis, licorice, hot rocks and subtle oak, it is a splendidly opulent, pure wine with a skyscraper-like texture as well as stunningly deep fruit that expands gracefully across the palate. The finish lasts nearly a full minute. Because of its overwhelming richness and sweet tannins, this brilliant wine seems to be approachable now, but I suspect further nuances and complexity will emerge after 4-5 years in the bottle. This wine will still be going strong at age 25-30. Like the offerings from its sister estate, Bond, these Harlan Estate offerings are uncompromisingly brilliant examples of Napa viticulture and winemaking at its

2007 Sine Qua Non "Labels" California Syrah
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Sine Qua Non "Labels" California Syrah (98RP, 94ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The recently released 2007 Syrah Labels (89% Syrah, 7% Grenache, and 4% Viognier) comes from the 11 Confessions Estate Vineyard (57%), a small amount from the home estate vineyard in Oak View called Cumulus, and the rest from purchased fruit grown in the White Hawk Vineyard in Los Alamos and the Bien Nacido Vineyard in Santa Maria. A sensational effort, it is performing even better out of bottle than it did from barrel. An opaque purple color is accompanied by beautiful notes of charcoal, acacia flowers, blueberries, blackberries, graphite, and subtle smoke. With great fruit, tremendous texture, and full-bodied power, it is locked and loaded. This cuvee should provide great drinking in addition to some provocative discussions over the next 10-15 years. 98+ (RP)" (08/2010)

2007 Sine Qua Non "Pictures" Grenache

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 87% Grenache, 11.5% Syrah, and 1.5% Viognier, this wine has wonderful floral notes intermixed with black raspberries, black cherries, licorice, graphite and some camphor. In the mouth, more white chocolate notes appear, along with meatiness and some silky tannins. Its great purity, density and richness make me think this wine could even improve a few points and flirt with perfection. (RP)" (8/2011) 95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep, bright ruby. Wild aromas of black raspberry compote, mocha, Asian spices and incense. 2007 Rhys "Alpine Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "With aeration, the firm, structured 2007 Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard (a 10-acre site planted at a 1,400 foot elevation) offers up notions of sweet and sour cherries, earth, and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied and pure, with good acidity and texture, this impressive Pinot will benefit from several years of aging. One-hundred percent whole clusters were used in its upbringing.
