2013 Cep (Peay Vineyards) Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

Antonio Galloni: "The 2013 Pinot Noir is a tasty, fruity red to drink over the next year or two, while the fruit retains its juiciness. Hints of rose petal and cinnamon add attractive layers of complexity. The 2013 is 70% declassified Peay juice and 30% fruit purchased from nearby properties. Peay does an excellent job with Cep, their sister label of budget-friendly wines. All of these current releases are tasty. The Syrah is the standout, as it is made up of declassified barrels of the two Peay vineyard designate, Syrahs, while the other wines are conceived from the outs ...Read More »

2013 Kenneth Volk "Jaybird-Unoaked" Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay

Jancis Robinson: "Special blocks are used for this unoaked wine: Sierra Madre and Cottonwood Canyon Vineyards. Peachy nose, lots of racy fruit. A bit hard on the end. Correct and fast fade." (3/2015) K&L Notes: From the winery: "The 2013 Jaybird has a distinct mineral, flinty aroma that is support by nuances of sliced pear and pineapple guava. On the palate, this wine is clean with refreshing acidity and flavors of apple and pear. This wine can be enjoyed as an aperitif, or paired with cuisine that calls for more acidity. It pairs well with raw fish and shellfish, or with sautéed seaf... Read More »

2011 Kenneth Volk "Enz Vineyard" Lime Kiln Valley Mourvedre

Connoisseurs Guide: "Here is an easy going, very approachable Mourvedre that shows a lighter, livelier gait than typical versions are wont to do, and it juxtaposes a bit of berry-like fruit with suggestions of dried leaves, chocolate and dusty soils. It is a little sparing in richness when compared to a good many of its cousins, yet it is constant and comfortably filled, and it is balanced to make friendly drinking over the next couple of years." 1984 Beaulieu Vineyard "Georges de Latour Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

BV's flagship wine, which is named for the founder of Beaulieu Vineyard, from the warm vintage of 1984. According the the winery's collectors' notes, the wine shows a maturing, medium full ruby-garnet color: "The bouquet is nicely elegant, with mint, berry and sweet cherry aromas that show more richness and depth than the palate. The flavors are slightly stewed (it was a warm vintage), yet also a bit acidic, while showing quite a lot of fullness." In 2009, wine writer Richard Jennings had similar notes: "Medium red color with pale meniscus; intriguing sa... Read More »

2005 Big Basin Vineyards "Rattlesnake Rock" Syrah Santa Cruz Mountains

92 points from Robert Parker: "The 2005 Syrah Rattlesnake Rock offers up aromas of charcoal, creme de cassis, pepper, and white chocolate. More elegant and restrained than the exuberant, flamboyant 2004, it is reminiscent of a top French Hermitage. Medium to full-bodied with moderately high tannin as well as a richness that builds incrementally in the mouth, this fresh, lively, impressive Syrah should age well for 12-15 years. Impressive Syrahs are being fashioned by proprietor Bradley Brown from his Santa Cruz Mountain vineyards. Unfortunately, quantit... Read More »

1997 Caymus "Special Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Wine & Spirits: "(no tasting note given)" (6/2001)93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby. Cassis, violet and lightly tarry, spicy oak. Ripe, dense and very concentrated; thick and deep. Not at all overly sweet or dominated by the wood. Has superb material and verve. Finishes very long, with thoroughly ripe tannins. The finest vintage for this wine in a long time, and one that avoids the excesses of (American) oak that have plagued so many recent vintages." (12/2000) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at 'The Sampler' icon tasting in London. The nose is still very closed but begins to open with aeration with burnt match, tertiar ...Read More »

2008 Peay Vineyards "La Bruma" Estate Sonoma Coast Syrah

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright purple. Sexy black raspberry and floral aromas are complicated by smoky minerals, Moroccan spices and a hint of licorice. Silky, alluringly sweet dark berry flavors pack a serious punch but come off as almost weightless, with tangy minerality adding spine and back-end cut. Gains weight and power with air and finishes with lingering smokiness and a hint of candied violet. This clocks in at a low 13.4% alcohol but hardly wants for power, depth or ripeness." (5/2011) Wine & Spirits: "A warm Syrah with the caramelized flavors of toasted oak, this is gentle, peppery and ...Read More »

1997 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An inky/plum/purple color is accompanied by a stunning bouquet of violets, charcoal, creme de cassis and a hint of toast. Prodigious when it hits the palate with a full-bodied expansiveness, there is not a hard edge to be found in the 1997, only velvety tannins, compelling depth and fruit intensity, and stunning purity. It is a perfect expression of Napa viticulture and wine that should continue to age effortlessly for two decades or more. (RP)" (11/2013)97 points Wine Spectator: "Dense, rich and focused, youthful and concentrated, with hints of maturity on the edge of the core cur ...Read More »

2005 Big Basin Vineyards Mandala Syrah Santa Cruz Mountains

92 points Robert Parker: "The 2005 Syrah Mandala possesses more intense fruit, not the complexity of the Rattlesnake Rock, but is just as good because of the sweetness, purity, and overall harmony of its elements. With superb purity, an expressive style, and loads of soul and character, it will provide plenty of pleasure over the next 10-12 years. Impressive Syrahs are being fashioned by proprietor Bradley Brown from his Santa Cruz Mountain vineyards. Unfortunately, quantities are limited for these cuvees (less than 100 cases of the Mandala and about 350... Read More »

2003 Big Basin Vineyards Rattlesnake Rock Syrah Santa Cruz Mountains

90 points Robert Parker: "The 2003 Syrah Rattlesnake Rock Vineyard possesses copious notes of spicy vanillin along with hints of crushed rocks, charcoal, creme de cassis, and pepper. This harmonious, medium to full-bodied, concentrated, full-flavored Syrah should drink well for 7-8 years. This small estate, which produced only 140 cases in 2003 and 375 in 2004, exhibits considerable potential." (06/05) K&L's notes - This is the second vintage of this very limited Syrah made by Bradley Brown at his new estate above China Grade. The vineyards are planted... Read More »

2013 Aubert "UV Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir New!
2013 Aubert "UV Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The rich, prodigious, full-bodied 2013 Pinot Noir UV, made from the Calera and Vosne-Romanée clones, is a denser, richer wine offering abundant notes of blueberries, blackberries, forest floor and strong hints of Asian hoisin sauce, dark fruits and forest floor. There are approximately 1,000 cases of this sensational Pinot, which Mark Aubert decanted 12 hours in advance of my visit. There is not a trace of new oak in this wine, which spent 10 months in 100% new barrels. Like all the 2013 Pinot Noirs, it has a decade or more of aging potential." 2006 Big Basin Vineyards "Mandala" Santa Cruz Mountains Syrah

Slower to reveal itself than other Big Basin wines, the Mandala Syrah is just starting to hint at its potential. It comes the winery's Estate vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains as well Fairview Ranch in the Santa Lucia Highlands. The combination of fruit creates a wine that, with some air, opens up to display aromas of plum, rhubarb, spice, white pepper and a little pine pitch. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with flavors of blackberry, Big cherry cedar box and earth. Firm tannins and lingering spice on the finish. This wine will really start ... Read More »

2011 Denner "Ditch Digger" Paso Robles Rhône Blend Back In Stock!
2011 Denner "Ditch Digger" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

93 points Antonio Galloni: "Denner's 2011 Ditch Digger is a wine of great textural finesse. Sweet tobacco, dried herbs, flowers and spices all meld together beautifully in the glass. Silky, polished and utterly impeccable, the 2011 impresses for its balance and overall sense of harmony. Black olives, savory herbs and spices linger on the finish. This is yet another great showing from Denner. The blend is 40% Grenache, 30% Syra, 15% Mourvedre, 10% Cinsault and 5% Counoise. Anthony Yount is without question one of the most thoughtful and introspective winemakers in Paso Robles. Youn ...Read More »

2003 Gemstone Yountville Bordeaux Blend

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The inky/purple-hued 2003 Proprietary Red Wine, a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, and the rest tiny portions of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, reveals copious notes of chocolate along with hints of melted tar, charcoal, black cherries, and currants. Full-bodied, dense, and well-balanced, it should drink well for 10-15 years. Interestingly, Paul Frank continues to sell much of his production to such high quality wineries as Pahlmeyer. He will undoubtedly do more and more estate bottling as his vineyard ages." (12/2005)90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, deep medium ruby ...Read More »

2004 Gemstone "Facets" Yountville Bordeaux Blend

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 13% Cabernet Franc, the 2004 Facets of Gemstone exhibits a similar character, but more mocha, black cherry, chocolate, and espresso-like notes, a plumper, more lush sweetness (no doubt because of the higher percentage of Merlot), and great aromatics, texture, expansiveness, and length. It should improve for 2-5 years, and drink well for 12-15." (12/2006)90 points Wine Spectator: "Smoky, cedary oak aromas lead to a tight, dense core of earthy currant, blackberry, mineral and sage. Compact and concentrated, this is chewy and rustic a ...Read More »

91(+?) points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "eep ruby-red. Pungent, expressive bouquet displays blackberry, boysenberry, cracked pepper and smoky mineral scents, with nuances of pipe tobacco and herbs adding complexity. Broad and sweet but also spicy, with tangy red and dark berry flavors and a sexy suggestion of candied flowers. Closes down on the finish, with the spice and pepper notes repeating. This benefited from air and should be even better with a few more years of bottle aging." (Nov/Dec '09) 90 points Wine Spectator: "This intense... Read More »

1979 St. Clement Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (6L)

Not dissimilar to the wonderful '77--deep, rich and concentrated black fruits, ample tannins and drinking quite nicely at this point. 90 points from the Wine Spectator. St. Clement continues to fly under the radar, great for folks who wish to drink quality aged wine at what has to be considered a bargain price. (Joe Zugelder, K&L Old and Rare Buyer)

1980 St. Clement Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (6L)

The house and grounds that St. Clement Vineyards is situated on were constructed in 1878. Passed on to several different owners over the decades, winemaking has always occurred at the estate. The current winery, founded in 1975, seeks to maintain those deep roots in Napa Valley history. This vintage was produced by winemaker Dennis Johns during his 19-year stint at St. Clement. Though Johns has since moved onto other projects, he helped establish St. Clement's reputation for producing premium wines, particularly intense, fruit-driven Cabernet Sauvignon.
