2006 Ferrero Brunello di Montalcino Top Pick!
2006 Ferrero Brunello di Montalcino

92 points James Suckling: "A rich and fruity wine with lots of tannins underneath. Full and rich, with dried cherries and blueberries. Round and chewy. Pretty pure fruit." (1/2011)92 points Wine Spectator: "A polished Brunello, offering black cherry and blackberry flavors that mesh with the generous texture, ending with a spicy finish. Not a big red, and the serious tannins need time to integrate, so the wine should only become more elegant as it develops. Best from 2014 through 2026." (10/2011)91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This dark Brunello by Ferrero offers a nice ensemble of mineral and graphite notes followed by mature berry fruit an ...Read More »

2006 Giuseppe Quintarelli Valpolicella Classico Superiore

91 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2006 Valpolicella Classico Superiore is a an attractive wine to drink now and over the next few years, as the flavors offer gorgeous complexity and nuance. Cedar, tobacco, smoke, worn-in leather and dried cherries are all laced together in the glass in a powerful Valpolicella loaded with class and personality. Firm tannins convey a decidedly old-school sense of structure. (AG)" (7/2015)

2006 Lisini Brunello di Montalcino

93 points James Suckling: "What a dreamy nose of crushed berries and dried flowers. Perfumes too. Then changes to Indian spices and dark fruits. Full bodied, with super well integrated tannins and a classy, long finish. So well integrated. Just a joy to taste. Better in 2013." (1/2011)92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. Aromas of crushed cherry, minerals and pungent smoke. Intense red berry and spice flavors are framed by strong but integrated acidity. Not at all overly sweet but broad, rich and concentrated. Classy, floral sangiovese with superb energy and lift, and the structure to support a slow and ...Read More »

2006 Caiarossa "Caiarossa" Toscana

96 points James Suckling: "A bouquet of berries, flowers and minerals, taking on some spice. Fascinating blend. Full-bodied, with plenty of pretty fruit and lightly chewy tannins. Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Mourvedre." (6/2013)93 points Wine Spectator: "A fascinating blend, with a bouquet of flowers, berries, nuts and mineral. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and pretty fruit. The wood comes through a little on the palate, but this is going to develop wonderfully. Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Syrah, Petit Verdo ...Read More »

2006 Terre de' Trinci "Ugolino" Sagrantino di Montefalco

Jancis Robinson: "Considered a riserva from a 45-year-old vineyard with ridiculously low yields of 30 hl. Vineyards in Montefalco and Bevagna, and the cantina is in Foligno. Beautiful mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Savoury more than fruity at the moment and a little locked up on the nose. Yet it has a supple palate and not heavy at all. Rich tannins on the finish. Aged for at least 18 months in new barrique, which is pretty amazing, because you hardly notice it on the nose. It may have added more tannins, whereas with less new oak you would have had a reall ...Read More »

2006 Giuseppe Quintarelli Amarone della Valpolicella Classico

"It's great to see Quintarelli back on track after a series of challenging events, including the passing of Giuseppe Quintarelli and his wife in rapid succession," writes Antonio Gallin, in Vinous. "Today, Quintarelli's grandson Francesco, appears to have the estate under firm control. The construction of a new, modern cellar is a sign of investment in the future, which is of course great to see. As for the wines, well, they have no peers. Once readers acquire a taste for these heady wines there is no turning back. It's as simple as that." Mr. Galloni di... Read More »

2006 Trabucchi Amarone della Valpolicella

92 points Antonio Galloni: "Trabucchi's 2006 Amarone della Valpolicella explodes from the glass. Black cherry, tar, incense, smoke and licorice notes all take shape as this big, broad-shouldered wine shows off its personality. Another year or two in bottle should help the 2006 come together even more fully, but it is likely to remain a fairly powerful, hulking Amarone. Still, there is a lot to look forward to here." (3/2014)91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Dark, thick and syrupy, this savory Amarone delivers notes of Indian spice, Teriyaki, molasses, plum and dark berry fruit. It has a noticeably sweet finish with ...Read More »

2006 ArPePe Sassella Riserva Stella Retica Valtellina Sup

Jancis Robinson: "From 50-year-old vines at 550 m, picked late and the wine is given extended maceration. Very pale brick red. Wonderfully subtle bouquet with real delicacy, something tarry, sun on rocks, and a hint of orange peel. I wonder when this was put on the market? It certainly seems well ready but with delightful transparency. Real freshness here." (4/2014) K&L Notes: Established in 1984 for Arturo Pelizzatti Perego, and now run by Arturo's children Isabella, Emanuele and Guido, ArPePe makes rare wines that are a point of reference for the unique Valtellina terroir, where th... 2006 Tabarrini Sagrantino di Montefalco "Colle alle Macchie"

93 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2006 Montefalco Sagrantino Colle alle Macchie clearly belongs to another era in this young estate's history. There is terrific density and concentration in the glass. At the same time, the oak tannins are imposing to the point of being overwhelming. Hints of blackberry jam, melted road tar and smoke struggle to emerge, but the oak is simply too much. The Colle alle Macchie is an especially powerful, structured wine with the tannins of the past. It will be interesting to see where this, the estate's top bottling, goes over the coming years." 2006 Argiano Brunello di Montalcino

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is a gorgeous wine laced with red cherries, tobacco, cedar and underbrush, all supported by a firm tannic spine. Argiano's 2006 Brunello shows beautiful inner perfume and the structure to develop positively for a number of years. Floral notes appear on the vibrant, polished finish. The estate's Brunello spent 12 months in French oak (which is mostly felt in the wine's textural richness) and completed its aging in cask. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024." 2006 Valdicava "Madonna del Piano" Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

100 points James Suckling: "I tasted this about a year ago at the winery and I was blown away. This time I tasted it in a blind tasting in Tuscany and it stood above the rest. Amazing aromas of blueberries and flowers, with black truffles and pie. Foie gras, mushrooms and white truffles too. Powerful, with great depth of gorgeous fruit and ultra-fine tannins. It fills your mouth with fruit and ripe tannins. Complex and long. A breathtaking wine. Truly glorious. Better in 2015." 2006 Villa Poggio Salvi Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (Pre-Arrival)

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a broad, masculine Brunello with layers of spice, leather, Spanish cedar, cola and cured meat. The mouthfeel is streamlined and elegant, with crisp acidity and a solidly tannic base." (5/2012)92 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and powerful, boasting black cherry, plum, tea and woodsy flavors. A huge wall of tannins backs it all up, and the finish is mouthcoating, if on the dry side. Give it some time." (9/2012)91 points James Suckling: "A solid 2006 with ripe-fruit and cedar character. Full body with chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Needs another two to three years to soften." (10/2014)

2006 Talenti Brunello di Montalcino

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is one of the more perfumed, vibrant wines to emerge from the southern reaches of Montalcino. Freshly cut flowers, minerals, licorice and juicy black cherries all come together beautifully in this gracious, utterly impeccable Brunello. With time in the glass the wine puts on weight, but the tannins retain considerable elegance and finesse. Sublte hints of oak linger on the impeccable finish. This is a fabulous effort from Talenti. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031." (5/2011)93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. Musky earth, cola, raspberry and dri ...Read More »
