2007 Spring Mountain Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
2007 Spring Mountain Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Wine & Spirits: "Check this out if you enjoyed the classic vintages of Gruaud-Larose: This is funky and complex, with the same kind of fat that St-Julien would boast." (10/2011) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Rich and vibrant in acids and tannins, this Cabernet feels like it was obviously grown in a good place. It flatters the palate with blackberry and black cherry flavors, with a currant ripeness accentuated by 80% new French oak. Forward and elaborate now, it doesn’t seem like an ager despite the tannins, so drink now–2013." (7/2011) K&L Notes: The Spring Mountain Vineyard Cab has the unmistakable imprint of moun... 2001 Merus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A superb effort from then-proprietor Mark Herold and his former wife, Erika Gottl, the 2001 Merus reveals an opaque purple color along with an extraordinary bouquet of camphor, graphite, blackberries, blueberry liqueur and subtle oak. It has resolved most of its tannins and is now a full-bodied, concentrated, well-balanced, impressively endowed stunner that has hit its plateau of full maturity where it should remain for another 10-15+ years. 2007 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend Top Pick!
2007 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Two of the strongest wines ever made at Opus One, the 2007 has terrific black currant fruit, licorice, incense, and subtle smoke, an opulent, even voluptuous mouthfeel, dazzling purity and texture, and a skyscraper-like mouthfeel. This is a sensational Opus One, with sweet tannin and impressive precision and depth. It can be drunk now or cellared for 25+ years. 2002 Benziger Sonoma Estate "Tribute" Red Blend

93 points Robert Parker: "Benziger’s 2002 Tribute is a great follow-up to their breakthrough effort in 2001. From the same bio-dynamically run vineyard, with David Ramey doing consulting work, this effort reveals exuberant, extroverted notes of creme de cassis, graphite, smoke, and earth. Full-bodied and opulently-textured, with loads of concentration, this is a brilliant red to drink young or cellar for 10-15 years." 1995 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is performing far better after a year of bottle age. This dark ruby/purple-colored, seductive wine offers blazingly intense aromas of cigar box, smoky oak, and jammy black currants with a hint of Provencal herbs. (RP)" (12/1998) 92 points Wine Spectator: "A touch of dill and coconut from oak give this a unique aromatic and flavor profile and there's plenty of rich, intense, spicy currant, plum and blackberry fruit to stand up to the wood. Hints of anise and cherry flow through on the finish, keeping the fruit in the forefront. (Web—2005)"

2006 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

93 points James Suckling: "I for one prefer the 2006 Opus to the 2007. I really appreciate the silky, refined, and aromatic quality of this wine. It’s full yet balanced with blueberry, currants, and spices on the finish. Racy is a word that comes to mind." (3/2012) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 comes across as a bigger, more structured wine than the 2007. The tannins are bolder, more dramatic, and more present. The wine displays impressive depth, not the velvety elegance of the 2007, but is a more muscular wine that begs for 2-3 years of cellaring and should drink well for 20-25 years. 93+ (RP) ...Read More »

2004 Hundred Acre "Kayli Morgan" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The wild man of Napa Valley, Jayson Woodbridge, has turned out one of the superstars of 2004, with the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Kayli Morgan. His wines always tend to be gorgeous young, offering up an impression that they’re not going to last. But his first vintage, 2000, seems to get better and better, even though it was spectacular when released. The 2004, which was harvested in September, shows an almost Pomerol-like sweet mocha, kirsch, black currant and deeply fruited mouthfeel. Enjoy it over the next decade. (RP)" (6/2012) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark ruby-red. Black cherry, mocha and licorice on the nose. On the palate the wine is deep, fullish, complex and blossoming beautifully on the attack, with good mid-palate depth, moderate tannins and fine length and grip on the nuanced finish. A fine bottle." 93 points Wine Spectator: "Few things in wine are as frustrating as experiencing difficulties with a great bottling that you’re long on. That’s been the case for me with the 1996 Chateau St. Jean Cinq Cépages, Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year in 1999. With a 95-point rating, 11,000 cases made and a $28 price tag, it was one of the easier picks we’ve made over the years. 2006 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine Spectator: "There's much to admire in this young Martha's, though it lacks the accessibility of the 2005. The core mint-chocolate-covered cherry and berry flavors are tight and structured, true to the vintage, so it's best to cellar this one and see what happens. The wait is usually worth it. Best from 2013 through 2021. Penetrating and intense but rather unyielding, showing a slightly raw peppery edge to its rather clenched dark fruit and savory spice flavors. This blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc is a gorgeous example of the Private Reserve. Of course, it probably suffers from the fact that Beringer is part of a gigantic international conglomerate, but this is just a stunning wine – inky purple, with plenty of cassis, a hint of espresso, subtle background oak and forest notes. (JL)" (12/1996) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1986 Bonny's Vineyard is another exotic, rich, distinctive, individualistic wine that should have Cabernet enthusiasts drooling. The huge bouquet of coffee, herbs, oriental spices, black fruits, tobacco, and new oak has about everything one could want in a top Cabernet. In the mouth, it exhibits rich, full-bodied, ...Read More »

2007 Vineyard 29 "29 Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The flagship wine, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyard 29 Estate, is an extraordinary effort. Performing even better than it did last year from barrel, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon spent 20 months in French oak barrels (90% new). The nose reveals notes of graphite, ink, cassis, and flowers. Superbly concentrated with impeccable purity and balance, this full-bodied wine is one of both power and elegance. If I didn’t know better, I would guess it was from Stags Leap rather than the west side north of St. Helena ... it’s that refined and gracious. The stun ...Read More »

1999 Screaming Eagle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
1999 Screaming Eagle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The bottled 1999 (a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc) is as profound as I predicted a year and a half ago. It boasts an opaque purple color along with a gorgeously pure nose of creme de cassis, charcoal, and floral characteristics. The wine is opulent, dense, and rich, with exceptional purity, a viscous texture, and impressive underlying tannin that frames its large but elegant personality. Not surprisingly, this is a candidate for the wine of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2020. (RP)" (8/2002) 97 points Wine Spectator: "A brilliant effort. ...Read More »

1988 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (slightly depressed corks, slightly oxidized capsules)

92 points Vinous: "A layered, impeccably graceful wine, the 1988 Opus One is all about textural harmony and balance. Sweet, silky tannins wrap around the expressive fruit in a wine that stands out for its overall harmony. Dark plums, leather, tobacco and spices linger on the polished finish. This is another Opus One that relies more on balance than on pure size. The Cabernet Sauvignon is quite low in this vintage at 85%, while Cabernet Franc, at 13%, is much more pronounced. A dollop of Merlot rounds out the blend. (AG)" (6/2013) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium to deep garnet-brick colour. Savoury / ...Read More »

2008 Vineyard 29 "Aida Estate" St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the 16-acre Aida Vineyard (a valley floor site with lots of stones and boulders as well as the famed black obsidian rocks), the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Aida Vineyard Estate (85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 6% Merlot aged for 20 months in 3/4's new French oak casks) exhibits plenty of earthy, chocolaty notes intertwined with hints of burning embers, camphor and spice. Thick, juicy and very Graves-like for a Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, it possesses big body as well as a masculine, bold style. Some tannins kick in in the finish, and this wine ...Read More »

2008 Cade "Estate" Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Displaying an even more opaque purple color, the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate exhibits a glorious nose of blueberries, black raspberries, plums, graphite and crushed rocks. This exquisite Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon is about as good as it gets from these higher elevation vineyards on the eastern side of Napa Valley. A brilliant texture, stunning purity and great length make for a fabulous wine to drink over the next 20-25+ years. (RP) 98+" (12/2010) 94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep, bright ruby. Subtler and more obviously mineral on the nose than the regular HM release, off ...Read More »
