2016 Château de la Charriere Bourgogne Pinot Noir Top Pick!
2016 Château de la Charriere Bourgogne Pinot Noir

This fruit-forward Bourgogne is backed by plenty of tannins from vines with an average age of 35 years, planted at a density of 10,000 vines per hectare. Hand-harvested and completely destemmed, the grapes fermented for more than two weeks and the wine aged for up to a year in mostly neutral French oak barrels.

2015 Jacques Bavard Auxey-Duresses Rouge

Maison Jacques Bavard is a tiny negociant producer in Puligny-Montrachet. He comes from a long line of winegrowers, and is dedicated to working with organic and biodynamic growers. We found him a few years ago on a tip, and found the purity of his wines to be most impressive. Thanks to importing his wines directly, we have them available at a very modest price.

2016 Domaine Jean-Michel Giboulot Bourgogne Pinot Noir

Jean-Michel is the third Giboulot to head the family estate in Savigny-lès-Beaune, having presided over the 12 hectares in Beaune, Pommard, and Savigny since 1982. Following Jean-Michel's recent conversion to organic farming, the wines have become fresher and rounder, and the increased proportion of destemmed fruit has helped this transition in style. Much as with Giboulot's 2015s, his 2016s are undoubtedly some of the best we've tasted yet from the portfolio, one that we've been working with directly now for a number of years.

2016 Domaine Charles Audoin Bourgogne Rouge

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An admirably pure nose reflects notes of essence of red berries along with touches of spice and earth. The naturally sweet, round, delicious and generous flavors possess only a hint of rusticity on the solidly complex if slightly warm finale. Still, this is really very good and should drink well young but also reward a few years of bottle age. *Outstanding Top value*" (1/2018) Jancis Robinson: "Absolutely delightful nose with redcurrant and raspberry and a healthy (but not overpowering) stemmy scent. 2016 Domaine Faiveley Mercurey 1er Cru "Clos des Myglands" (Monopole)

89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A discreet application of wood sets off the pretty array of plum, earth and red and dark currant scents. There is a bit more volume to the medium-bodied flavors that possess a velvety mid-palate while delivering better persistence on the ever-so-slightly rustic finish. This too is quite good." (1/2018) 91 points James Suckling: "Deep black plums on the nose with some spices and licorice. Serious concentration for this appellation. Drink 2019-2029. (RH)" (1/2017) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Marsannay Champs-Perdrix offers up notes of sweet red fruit, cherry, licorice and light reduction. 92-94 points Vinous: "Building off the considerable success of their 2009 Beaune 150th Anniversary 1er Cru, Jadot has decided to make the wine again in top years. One of the highlights in this range, the 2012 boasts stunning power, depth and harmony. The lifted aromatics recall the Ursules, but here the fruit possesses more volume and creaminess. An explosive, layered finish rounds things out in style. Some of the parcels in the blend are Avaux, Cent Vignes, Pertuisots, Vignes Franches, Perrières, Toussaints and Chouacheux. 2016 Domaine A&P de Villaine Mercury Rouge "Les Montots"

Jancis Robinson: "Ripe but fresh, spicy dark-red fruit. The tannins are dry and quite grippy but the overall effect is refined austerity, elegance and precision. Tight, grippy and long. Definitely needs food but I really like this austerity in harmony. (JH)" (1/2018)

2015 Vincent Girardin Volnay 1er Cru "Champans"

91-93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is also subtly perfumed with its elegant, pure and airy nose of ripe black fruit liqueur, spice and Asian-style tea scents. There is equally good purity and transparency to the vibrant, detailed and seductively textured flavors that exude a fine bead of minerality on the balanced, focused and lingering finale. This should drink reasonably well on the early side but amply reward at least a decade of cellar time. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*" (4/2017) 91-93 points Vinous: "(these vines have been farmed organically for a long time, according to Germain, who ranks this as one of ...Read More »

2016 Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Le Corton Grand Cru

94-96 points James Suckling: "The chalky and stony notes are intermingled with pastry and red to dark cherries, all leading to a palate that shows good acidity, impressive depth and weight of tannins. A cool vintage expression with more intensity at the finish. This will age very well. Try from 2024." (2/2018) 93-95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Very, very generous wood treatment is sufficiently toasty to presently dominate the otherwise layered nose of dark cherry, raspberry, earth and sauvage-inflected aromas. There is superb concentration, power and richness to the big-bodied flavors that possess excellent reserves of ...Read More »

2015 Danjean-Berthoux Bourgogne Rouge "Chaume Ronde" (Previously $17)

When Pascal Danjean assumed control of the family estate more than 20 years ago, he decided he was going to begin bottling and stop selling the production to the local cooperative. In 1993, he bottled the estate’s first vintage and the years since have seen him plant more of the estates holdings, of which are primarily located in 1er Cru vineyards in the small village of Givry in Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise. The wines are never fined nor filtered and Pascal eschews the use of new wood almost entirely, resulting in soft, supple wines that allow the terro... Read More »

2015 Domaine J.J Confuron Bourgogne Rouge "Jeunesse"

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "eduction presently dominates the underlying fruit. The nicely rich and agreeably textured middle weight flavors possess fine intensity on the delicious, balanced and refreshing finale. This is quite good for what it is and should be enjoyable young if that's your preference." (1/2017)

2015 Domaine Jean Grivot Vosne-Romanée

93 points Wine Spectator: "Earthy, feral aromas give way to ripe dark berry elements, with flavors of black cherry, black currant and violet. Supple and harmonious, this remains fresh and long on the detailed aftertaste. (BS)" (3/2018) 88-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This also displays some reduction but not so much as to completely mask the spice elements. There is a wonderfully silky mouth feel to the nicely concentrated medium-bodied flavors that possess lovely richness and persistence on the mildly warm and firm finish." (1/2016) 89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Vosne Romanee has a perfumed nose of cranberry and raspberry preserve, hin ...Read More »
