2014 La Sibilla Falanghina Campi Flegrei

Praise from Ian D'Agata: "The third and fourth generations of the Di Meo family are propelling this estate into the stratosphere of Italian wine production. Along with wines from Mustilli and Contrada Salandra, there are no better Falanghina bottlings made anywhere than these. Following a stint with world-famous consulting enologist Roberto Cipresso, Vincenzo Di Meo is the winemaker here. The estate vineyards are situated in the particularly sandy Campi Flegrei production zone, which seems especially well suited to Falanghina, of which there are at least... Read More »

2012 Sarno 1860 Fiano di Avellino

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The pretty 2012 Fiano di Avellino represents the single wine made by Tenuta Sarno 1860. This is a fresh and clean expression of the grape with bright notes of citrus, peach, pear, white flower and honey. Sur lie aging gives the wine good tension and density in the mouth. It wraps smoothly over the palate with layers of yellow fruit and crushed mineral. Mauro and Adele Sarno run the boutique Tenuta Sarno 1860 estate in Avellino. They make a single wine, a Fiano di Avellino, that sees fruit harvested from a high density vineyard planted 630 meters above se ...Read More »

2013 Marisa Cuomo "Furore Bianco Fiorduva" Costa d'Amalfi

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Costa d'Amalfi Furore Bianco is a blend of 60% Falanghina and 40% Biancolella. Vines are planted in near vertical fashion on a sea facing cliff and range in altitude from 100 meters above sea level to an impressive 750 meters. That's a steep drop. The wine shows beautiful marine and saline tones of sea salt and oyster shell. It also offers white flowers, peach and honeydew melon. Its appearance is luminous and bright. The finish is long and silky." (4/2015) Jancis Robinson: "Candied lemon, garden herbs and lime, inviting and pretty and fresh. The palate is quite fu ...Read More »

2012 Contrade di Taurasi (Cantine Lonardo) Aglianico Irpinia

91 points Vinous: "Dark ruby-red. Pure aromas of red cherry and rose petal, plus a whiff of alcohol on the enticing, aromatic nose. Big, dense and juicy, but with lively acidity providing lift and nicely extending the bright, sweet red cherry and peppery raspberry flavors on the long, suave finish. This strikes me as having been made with extremely ripe grapes but it's neither cooked nor over the top. A knockout entry-level Aglianico." (9/2015)

A blend of black Pallagrello and Casavecchia grapes. Notes from the winery: "The wine is a beautiful bright pink color, with delicate scents with notes ranging from floral eglantine roses with hints of cherry and sour black cherry. Its flavor is characterized by a remarkable freshness supported by good acidity that nicely extends the persistence."

2012 De Conciliis "Donnaluna" Aglianico Paestum

90 points Vinous: "Dark ruby-red. Rich red cherry and red berry aromas are complemented by cinnamon and fresh herbs. Suave, dense and juicy, with superripe red cherry and marzipan flavors complicated by hints of vanilla and mocha. Finishes long, with noteworthy peppery bite." (9/2015)

2011 San Francesco "Quattro Spine" Riserva

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Costa d'Amalfi Tramonti Riserva Quattro Spine is a blend of Aglianico, Tintore and Piedirosso from old vines. This is a beautiful and delicious wine with a untamed and rustic personality. The highly distinctive bouquet shows dark berry, bramble, grilled herb, candied cherry and balsam notes. Background tones of tar and licorice also appear and contribute to the uniqueness of this wine. The Aglianico component adds a firm vein of tannins at the back. I'd be very curious to try this wine three to five years from now. (ML)" (4/2015) K&L Notes: If you've ever be... Read More »

2012 Terre del Principe "Castello del Femmine" Terre del Volturno

Wine Enthusiast: "Here’s a unique blend of two of Campania’s little known grapes, Casavecchia and Pallagrello Nero. It opens with a pretty fragrance of blue flower, ripe berries and spice. The soft, round palate offers red berry and fleshy blackberry accented by cinnamon-toast notes. Drink soon." (9/2014)

2003 Feudi di San Gregorio "Serpico" Irpinia

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 is a fascinating Serpico. The wine boasts impressive concentration in its dark, rich fruit. This is an incredibly primary Serpico, with little in the way of tertiary development. Ideally, it is best left alone for another few years, but readers fortunate enough to own this are in for a thrilling ride once the wine opens up a bit. Today it remains tightly coiled but full of potential. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023. (AG)" (8/2010) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A beautiful wine: sweet cherry and berry fruit nuances are woven within threads of vanilla, toast and ash. Despite the ...Read More »

2014 Cenatiempo Ischia Bianco Superiore

90 points Vinous: "Pale gold-tinged straw-yellow. Peach, apricot and yellow apple aromas and flavors are complicated by a delicate note of fresh herbs. Rich and savory, but with lively acidity adding freshness and lift. Finishes crisp, chewy and long. This is not the first time that I've been extremely impressed by what is essentially Cenatiempo’s entry-level wine, a steal at the price. (ID)" (9/2015)

2003 Montevetrano Colli di Salerno

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Montevetrano is one of the revelations in this tasting. Layers of dark, baritone fruit form the building blocks, followed by suggestions of leather, spices and earthiness that add richness and complexity. Incisive and muscular throughout, the 2003 impresses for its overall sense of balance, something that was very hard to come by in this torrid vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2025... Montevetrano is approximately 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Aglianico (the international varieties were planted on the existing Aglianico rootstock ...Read More »

2001 Feudi di San Gregorio "Serpico" Campania

94 points Wine Spectator: "Bold and structured red. Dark color; black licorice, raspberry and mineral character and hints of dried flowers; full-bodied, with spicy fruit and undertones of black pepper. Chewy finish. This is fantastic." (2/2004) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Serpico is another wine that appears to need more bottle age. Today it is in an in-between stage where the fruit is no longer primary but the tertiary notes aren’t fully developed either. The 2001 is a powerful Serpico with impressive tannic clout that will require further cellaring to soften. With time, hints of wild cherries, herbs ...Read More »

2011 Galardi "Terra di Lavoro" Roccamonfina (Pre-Arrival)

97 points James Suckling: "Complex aromas of blackberry, stones, cracked black pepper and tar. Full body with soft, round tannins and a juicy, fruity finish. Soulful and refined from this estate. This is a magical wine from Southern Italy." (2/2014) 92 points Wine Spectator: "There's drive to this well-meshed, sanguine red, offering flavors of herbs, dried currant, iron and black olive that are deftly layered with sinewy tannins and balancing acidity. Drink now through 2021." (4/2014) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(a blend of aglianico and piedirosso): Good full ruby. Ripe red cherry, dark plum, licorice, coffee and spicy oak on the nose. S ...Read More »

2010 Contrade di Taurasi, Taurasi

91 points Vinous: "Deep ruby. Spicy aromas of red berries, minerals and cocoa. Bright, fresh and suave, with precise flavors of red cherry and tobacco complicated by licorice and sweet spices. The finish is bright, juicy and long but increasingly austere. Another outstanding wine from the Lonardo family. 91+? (ID)" (9/2015)

2004 Feudi di San Gregorio "Serpico" Campania

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Serpico is an excellent choice for readers who want to enjoy an Aglianico with quite a bit of tertiary character. Wild cherries, game, earthiness, tobacco and licorice flow from this burly, somewhat rustic Serpico. The French oak has added a measure of richness, but is now nicely integrated. Menthol, dried flowers and leather add the final layers of complexity on the building finish. This is a firm, hearty Serpico that needs to be opened at least several hours in advance. Relative to Campania’s other heavy hitters, Serpico lacks a measure of ele ...Read More »

2008 Fattoria Galardi Terra di Lavoro
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Fattoria Galardi Terra di Lavoro (97RP). 97+ points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "Galardi’s 2008 Terra di Lavoro is a legend in the making. It is a fabulously ripe, rich and seductive wine endowed with beautifully articulated dark plums, ash, leather, licorice, all of which meld together in an explosive, utterly thrilling display of class and elegance. Clean, mineral notes frame the eternal finish. Today the 2008 is impossibly young and the wine will require considerable patience, but its class, pedigree and potential are all first-rate. Simply put, the 2008 is a monumental Terra di Lavoro. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2038." Wine Advocate # 190 Aug 2010 Terra di Lavoro is 80% Aglianico and 20% Piedirosso
