1995 Justino's Colheita Madeira

Jancis Robinson: "This has more of the waluts and polished wood of maturity, and a touch of coffee and dark caramel; spicy and rich and attention-grabbing on the palate. Amazing concentration and still so zesty and alive. Very, very persistent and insistent. 17.5/20 points. (JH)" (10/2014)

Rare Wine Company Historic Series New York Malmsey Madeira

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* The sweetest and richest in the Historic series, the New York Malmsey unfolds slowly in the glass, gradually revealing layers of depth and flavor. Coffee, toffee and date notes emerge, followed by earthy, almost truffley flavors. Powerful and assertive on the long finish." (11/2006) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium amber. Powerfully scented bouquet combines cherry compote, cola, molasses, pipe tobacco and brown sugar. Lush and expansive in the mouth, offering sweet pit fruit and orange marmalade flavors and a deeper note of espresso. Clings tenaciously on the fini ...Read More »

Rare Wine Company Historic Series Savannah Verdelho Madeira

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium amber with a green rim. Aromas of burnt orange, tobacco, toffee and herbs, with a hint of potpourri adding an exotic component. Broader and deeper than the Charleston, offering sappy orange marmalade, chestnut honey and toffee flavors underscored by tangy acidity. Shows a sweet, nutty quality on the smoky, gently spicy finish. I like this wine's heft and thrust." (6/2011) K&L Notes: These are the most affordable, representative examples of classic Madeira available. A collaboration between the importer and Barbeito's Ricardo Diogo Vasconcelos Freitas, the ... Cossart Gordon 5 Year Old Bual Madeira

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* Don’t let the medium you—that’s how this is supposed to look. Malmsey is the sweetest of the Madeiras, and this one is intensely sweet, yet also lemony-tart at the same time, with flavors of black walnuts, molasses and coffee." (11/2006) Wine Spectator: "Smooth and lush, with loads of glazed apricot, maple, vanilla and cream flavors. Fresh, focused finish." (11/2006) K&L Notes: Cossart Gordon, founded in 1759, is a Bual specialist, only bottling Madeiras from this noble grape variety known for producing slightly spicy and medium sweet styles of Madeira. This example s... Read More »

2002 Blandy's Bual Madeira (500ml)

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Top 100 of 2015* The sweetest of the Madeira single-variety wines, this Bual is still laced with intense acidity. That brightness is contrasted by the toffee and caramel flavors, yielding a wine that is superrich while remaining so fresh at the end. This fine wine is ready to drink." (10/2015) 94 points Wine Spectator: "*Top 100 of 2015* Deep, rich and exotic-tasting, with plenty of smoky accents to the dried mango, apricot and roasted pineapple flavors, featuring notes of crème brûlée. Very fresh midpalate, presenting an unctuous finish of ginger and cream. Drink now through 2050. ...Read More »

Rare Wine Company Historic Series Boston Bual Madeira

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* Slightly richer than the Charleston Sercial, the Boston Bual boasts knockout aromas of toasted nut oil, orange peel and hints of dark honey or maple syrup. Despite the extra weight and sweetness, it's not cloying at all the finish is mouthwatering and long." (11/2006) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Light, bright amber. Deep aromas of cherry pit, candied orange, toffee and molasses, lifted by a note of dried rose. Chewy in texture, with dry-edged nut and burnt orange flavors, a touch of molasses sugar and good back-end grip. Quite sweet but the wine's acidity adds focus ...Read More »

Rare Wine Company Historic Series Charleston Sercial Madeira

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editor's Choice* The Historic Series are simply great Madeiras at reasonable prices. The Charleston Sercial is the driest of the collection, offering nutty aromas tinged with honey, caramel and maple syrup. Dried figs, honey and candied citrus flavors mark the palate, which is wonderfully smooth. The long finish features racy yet balanced acidity." (11/2006) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium amber. Gingerbread, orange zest, clove, blond tobacco and honey on the nose. Spicy citrus and poached pear flavors are lifted by zesty acidity and show a gentle smoky quality on the back end. B ...Read More »

Cossart Gordon 15 year old Bual Madeira (500ml)

Cossart Gordon, founded in 1759, is a Bual specialist, only bottling Madeiras from this noble grape variety known for producing slightly spicy and sweet styles of Madeira, second only to Malmsey in terms of sweetness. The 15 year old expression ramps up the intensity, the acidity, and the rancio qualities when compared to the 5 year old. It's a great wine to close out a meal, or to pair with a rich, custard based dessert or bread pudding. (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish & Portuguese wine buyer)

Rare Wine Company Historic Series Baltimore Rainwater Madeira

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The non-vintage RWC Baltimore Rainwater (bottled January 2012) was designed to reintroduce Rainwater as a prestige style rather than the cheaper, paler versions of years gone by. Its template was a Rainwater that Mannie Berk tasted from the 1820s. It has a light lanolin, melted candle wax, dried fig and orange blossom-scented bouquet that expands nicely with aeration. The palate is crisp and light on the entry, with a vibrant citric thread that combines succinctly with bitter orange and mandarin notes. It is laced with a touch of toffee towards the elega ...Read More »

Leacock "Solera 1863" "Malmsey Madeira
Bid on this bottle of Leacock "Solera 1863" "Malmsey Madeira. John Leacock sailed to Madeira from the United Kingdom (after the death of his father) in 1741 and at the age of 15 became the youngest apprentice at the firm of Madeira merchants, Catanach and Murdoch staying until his contract expired on 11 March 1749. During his apprenticeship he had been in constant contact with an old school friend, John Patient, residing at that time in Charles Town, South Carolina who suggested that they themselves should commence trading. Leacock agreed and this marks the birth of the now world famous company.

1986 D'Oliveira Verdelho Madeira

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It was in 1850 that Joao Pereira d’Oliveira founded his company. He initially sold wines to other shippers, and it was not until the 1970s that they began to sell Madeira wines under their own label (though they continued to sell and buy lots, to and from other shippers.) It is a small company, but there are plentiful stocks of reserve wines. Their policy is to bottle on demand, which means their vintage wines can invariably benefit from extended cask aging.
