Copper & Kings "Butchertown" Reserve Casks Brandy (750ml) (Previously $60) Top Pick!
Copper & Kings "Butchertown" Reserve Casks Brandy (750ml) (Previously $60)

Available exclusively at K&L in California, Copper & Kings is going be the next big thing in American microdistillation. Think of them as the St. George or the Anchor Steam of Kentucky. Started in 2014 by Joe and Lesley Heron, the Louisville-based brandy upstart uses three gigantic Vendome copper pot stills to craft a number of different brandy expressions, both from grapes and apples. Those spirits are then blended into an aged solera system of older expressions, created from mature stocks purchased across the country from other pot-distilling brandy pr... Read More »

Ticks many boxes of enjoyment with texture and length a highlight. Balanced and very well made." 93 points Sam Kim: "This is elegant and beautifully styled, displaying white nectarine, rockmelon and lemon peel characters with hints of vanilla and hazelnuts on the nose. The palate is focused and finely textured, and delivers excellent fruit purity and rounded mouthfeel, wonderfully framed by well-integrated acidity. Drink now through 2020. (TM, Web Only-2017)" K&L Notes: A blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Carignan and 10% Syrah aged for eight months in two-year-old French barrels. The wine is unfined and unfiltered. 2015 Domaine la Croix Belle "Champ de Coq" Côtes de Thongue Rouge (Previously $12)

Just outside the city of Montpellier lie the vineyards of La Croix Belle, a family owned and operated Domaine that traces it roots back to the region more than two centuries. Francoise and Jacques Boyer assumed contril of the property in the late 70s with an eye towards making clean expressive wines reflecting the region. A lot of replanting was done, yields were lowered and modern winemaking techniques and facilities were adopted. 2014 Domaine de Bila Haut "Occultum Lapidem" Côtes de Roussillon-Villages Latour de France (Previously $30)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another terrific vintage for this cuvee, the Syrah and Grenache-dominated 2014 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Latour de France Occultum Lapidem was harvested between the 12th of September and the 3rd of October with miniscule yields of 28 hectoliters per hectare. Completely destemmed and aged all in concrete tanks, its ruby opaque color is followed by complex notes of garrigue, leather, plums and violets. 2015 Vasse Felix Chardonnay Margaret River Western Australia (Elsewhere $40)

96 points James Halliday: "From Vasse Felix's premier vineyards focused on Wilyabrup, fermented and matured in French oak (42% new) for 9 months. The bouquet is still developing, but the palate guarantees the medium to long-term future of a chardonnay with exceptional length and intensity, pear, white peach and grapefruit combining to make light work of the oak. Restrained like a lion on a leash." (9/2016) 94 points James Suckling: "A vivid and bright chardonnay with cooked apple, lemon and mineral character. Hints of vanilla and cream. 2014 Dominio del Águila "Pícaro" Tinto (Previously $30)

93 points James Suckling: "Delicate and floral with a ripe dark-fruit character and hints of charcoal and vanilla. Full body, elegant yet firm tannins and a fruity finish. Lots of wood but this is stylish. Needs time to soften. Better in 2019." (12/2016) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Pícaro Tinto is Tempranillo with some 5% Albillo and selected from vineyards where the soils have a higher content of clay. This is always produced from the same vineyards since the initial vintage, 2012. 2014 could sometimes feel a little austere and sometimes a little reductive. (2/2018) Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Château Croix-Mouton from Jean-Philippe Janoueix (La Confession, La Croix St. Georges, etc.) is a rock-solid effort, and at 15 bucks is a terrific deal. 2014 Star Lane Santa Ynez Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Vinous: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Star Lane Vineyard is bold, pungent and bursting with fruit. Deep and unctuous in texture, but with considerable aromatic lift, the 2014 offers a terrific expression of Happy Canyon. Black cherry, blackberry, grilled herbs, menthol, sage and licorice infuse the rich, inviting finish. 2015 Venge "Scout's Honor" Napa Valley Zinfandel Blend

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Red Blend Scout's Honor is an almost kitchen sink blend of 70% Zinfandel, 14% Charbono, and the balance Petite Sirah and Syrah. It's a huge, fruit bomb beauty that's loaded with notions of tobacco leaf, plums, Asian spice, and violets. Fleshy, fat, opulent, and deliciously full-bodied, this head turner has remarkable purity, no hard edges, and is impossible to resist." 2011 Porta del Vento "MaQue" Perricone Sicilia

I remember the first time I tasted this wine, I drew back a bit and thought to myself, well, this is something different. Part of the wealth of Italy is its hundreds of indigenous grape varieties. Even someone who is well traveled and has tasted extensively gets surprised, because in Italy there’s always a new discovery. Porta del Vento is in western Sicily, southwest of Palermo and due south of Alcamo. Their vineyards sit high up in the coastal mountains at a tad over 1900 feet in a basically sandy soil and substrate. Porta del Vento means “carry the wi... Read More »

2012 Castello di Romitorio "Filo di Seta" Brunello di Montalcino (Previously $65)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made in limited numbers, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Filo di Seta is a commanding wine. With just 4,000 bottles produced, it reflects the extreme power and depth that can be achieved at this cooler Montalcino microclimate. The 2012 vintage was hot and dry, thus creating ideal growing conditions for Castello Romitorio's fruit. Vineyards here are panted on steep slopes and surrounded by thick forest and vegetation. Drink now through 2020. 1,694 cases made." (7/2017) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Salty brioche and pretzel bread come to mind first on the entry of this wine, both aromatically and on the palate. It is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 21 months in 66% new French oak. This vineyard is a south-facing micro-terroir with lots of rocks, and the wine smells of mountain garrigue intermixed with black cherry, blackberry and cassis.
