2015 Domaine Tabordet "Calcis" Pouilly Fumé (Previously $27)

Nestled in the village of Verdigny, Domain Tabordet is run by brothers Yvon and Pascal Tabordet, who took the reins back in 1981. When the two brothers first took over the estate it consisted of three hectares (7.4 acres) in Sancerre. By 1988 they had added another 4.5 hectares of Sancerre and also added 12 hectares (29.7 acres) in neighboring Pouilly Fumé, just across the Loire River. Wine growing in Pouilly Fumé dates back to the fifth century when the Romans dominated the area. In 1937 it became an official Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) of Fra... Read More »

2015 Vincent & Sophie Morey Santenay "Les Gravieres" 1er Cru

90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This possesses the most elegant nose in the range with its ripe array of pure cassis, plum liqueur, black cherry and freshly turned earth scents. The vibrant middle weight flavors possess a velvety mid-palate and good minerality on the attractively well-balanced and persistent finish. This isn't especially complex at present but the underlying material appears to be such that my rating presumes that more depth will develop with a few years of bottle age." (4/2017)

2013 Hentley Farm "The Beast" Single Block Shiraz Barossa Valley

95 points James Halliday: "Awesomely powerful, with a tsunami of sombre black fruits, licorice and tannins to match, overwhelm you the moment the wine enters the mouth. It is, of course, full-bodied, and doesn't have the fluid grace of the other Hentley Farm '13 Shirazs. It is indeed a beast, but will repay those who put their faith in the high quality corks used by Henley Farm." (3/2015) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2013 Shiraz The Beast has an earthy/gamey nose with dried mulberries and preserved plums at the core, morphing into spice box, sandalwood and peppery notes. 2015 Penley Estate "Atlas" Shiraz Coonawarra (Previously $20)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Atlas Shiraz is redolent of cracked black pepper and Chinese five spice over black cherry and black berry notes with a waft of chocolate mint. Medium-bodied, softly textured in the well-poised mouth, it delivers mouth-filling juicy black fruit and a spicy finish. (LPB)" (8/2017)

2014 Acumen "Mountainside" Napa Valley Red Wine

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Mountainside is slightly sterner wine with perhaps not the depth of the 2013, but a deep, ruby/plum color, red and blackcurrants, earth, licorice and spice. It is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and the rest Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It falls off a bit in the mouth, but shows good aromatics and clean, pure, medium-bodied flavors. Drink it over the next 7-8 years. 2014 Blackbird "Paramour" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (Previously $120)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another terrific example of Blackbird is the 2014 Proprietary Red Paramour, a fabulous blend of 84% Cabernet Franc, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Merlot. The Cabernet Franc comes from the Stagecoach Vineyard. Consultant Aaron Pott said he thinks they have a magical spot for it on that large eastern Napa Valley mountain site. This is terrific stuff from the super-intense fragrance of white flowers and forest floor to the blueberry, black raspberry and graphite notes. The wine hits the palate with dazzling fruit intensity, loads of glycerin, a round, juicy, ...Read More »

2016 Massena "Moonlight Run" Barossa Valley South Australia (Previously $25)

Winemaker's Notes: "With a linear Mataro based palate that gives focus, density and minerality supported by maraschino cherry dense Grenache, this is a great mouthful of everything great about a Chateauneuf styled blend. Spicy aromatics abound with black and white pepper, Chinese five spice and native pepper berry jumping out the glass. With so much going on it is best enjoyed on its own, however tuck into this with a Peking Duck and you'll be extremely satisfied." 96 points Wine Front: "Blend of Barossa Valley mataro, grenache, and shiraz, pretty much ... 2015 Vigneti Massa "Sterpi" Timorasso (Previously $65)

Walter Massa may have single handedly brought back the Timorasso grape. Specific to Piedmonte, when Massa began to realize how ideal the micro-climate was for white varieties he began looking to make something a little more interesting than the high-yielding, quaffable Cortese. It took years of dedicated experimentation and meticulous selection massal, but now Massa is on the map for making impressive, complex, and alluring Timorrasso. This wine is fermented entirely with native yeasts and is allowed to macerate on the skins for an extended sixty hours. ... Read More »

2016 Patatsblanc Colombard Chenin Montagu (Previously $20)

Christian Eedes 90 points "Patatsblanc arose when Reenen Borman, the winemaker behind the celebrated Chenin Blanc from Patatsfontein in Montagu, decided that some of the Colombard on the property was too good to pass up and so devised a Colombard-Chenin Blanc blend intended to be accessible but not facile. The 2016, consisting of 88% Colombard and 12% Chenin Blanc, has just been released. In apparent testimony to a distinctive site-specific character, smoky, stony, ashen and nutty notes inflect pear and white peach fruit on the nose, though somewhat less so on the palate of this delicate, pure-fruited libation. In this case, the 2015 F Series Pinot Noir has a higher proportion of whole-cluster ferments and is a barrel selection. Emmanuel Camut Vinaigre Balsamique de Cidre 100ml (Previously $35)

We’ve been preaching the gospel of Camut for as long as we can remember here at K&L. As we often tell customers, there are few genres of wine and spirits from which we can unequivocally declare a "world’s best," but in the case of Calvados there’s Camut and then there’s everything else. At the beginning of the new millennium, it seems Emmanuel Camut was offered a bottle of traditional balsamic vinegar by some Italian friends of his. He was taken by the word "traditional" on the bottle because, as he would come to find out, it belonged to a protected appe... Read More »
