2008 Pignan "Réserve" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

91 points Vinous: "Bright red. High-pitched aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, rose petal, and Asian spices, lifted by a mineral quality. Suave, silky and alluringly sweet, offering penetrating red fruit flavors and slow-mounting florality. This refined, focused wine stains the palate with perfumed flavors of raspberry and garrigue. This has the juicy acidity and spine to reward cellaring but I find it awfully delicious now. (JR)" (3/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The light ruby-colored, medium to full-bodied, soft 2008 Pignan Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits a perfume of ground pepper, lavender, Provenca ...Read More »

2003 Vineyard 29 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Yes, it’s a lot of money for a bottle of wine, and yes, it’s stunning. From the famous Philippe Melka, this 100% Cab pours inky black, and smells dramatically oaked. No surprise that it’s 100% new French barrels. But the underlying wine is massive in blackberry, cherry, mocha, lavender and thyme, just gigantically proportioned, and easily able to handle all that wood. Beautiful now, it’s a keeper." (5/2007) 93 points Vinous: "Bright, dark red-ruby. Wonderfully complex, aromatic nose combines dark berries, flowers, Middle Eastern spices, brown sugar and a ...Read More »

2010 Myriad "Three Twins" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Three Twins Vineyard, which comes from the backwoods of Conn Valley, is a big, juicy, rich Cabernet with loads of fruit, plenty of blueberry, raspberry and floral notes, medium to full-bodied power and no hard edges. It can be drunk now or cellared for 10-15+ years." (10/2013) 92 points Wine Spectator: "A rich, creamy style, this is showy for its oaky presence, turning elegant and refined, with intense red and black licorice, vivid berry, tea, clove and herb scents that gain on the finish. Drink now through 2022. 96 cases made." (6/2013) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(just the second cr ...Read More »

2016 Aubert "Larry Hyde and Sons Vineyard" Carneros Chardonnay

95-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Chardonnay Larry Hyde and Sons Vineyard has a provocative savory/meaty nose with yeast extract, brine and nut nuances over a core of ripe pears and white peaches plus a waft of lime leaves. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the palate with stone fruit and savory layers, with a lovely oiliness to the texture offset by a racy acid line, finishing long. (LPB)" (10/2017) 97 points Vinous: "The 2016 Chardonnay Larry Hyde and Sons is so delicate, precise and nuanced. In 2016, the Hyde leans more towards the citrus end of the spectrum. Candied lemon peel and lifted floral no ...Read More »

2015 Domaine de la Janasse Cotes-du-Rhone "Les Garrigues"

92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "From the same terroir as the Terre d'Argile, the 2015 Côtes du Rhône Les Garrigues always comes from the same two hectares of Grenache and is brought up in foudre and demi-muids. Its ruby color is followed by terrific notes of spice, incense, orange rind and ripe cherries. Finesse drive, elegant, perfumed and complex, this nuanced, medium-bodied beauty is about as seamless and elegant as you're going to get in a Côtes du Rhône." (10/2017) James Suckling: "A ripe and exotic style with plenty of wild herbs, ripe raspberry fruits and pastry notes. The palate has a little heat ...Read More »

2016 Domaine de la Janasse Cotes-du-Rhone Blanc

90 points James Suckling: "Impressive lemon and grapefruit citrus ahead of lightly chalky elements. The palate has crunchy appeal with smooth, stony phenolics. Excellent drink now style." (8/2017) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A year fresher, the 2016 Cotes du Rhone Blanc is crisper and more linear than the 2015 but shows similar orange and lime flavors, with a hint of anise as well. It should be consumed over the next year or two.(JC)" (10/2017) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Bright verbena, green fig, pear and yellow apple notes are all in the mix here, with light lemon shortbread and salted butter accents gilding the finish. Drink now throug ...Read More »

1991 Chateau St. Jean Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

From the winery: "Founded in 1973, Chateau St. Jean was conceived as a true fine wine estate in the European style, where wines from individual vineyards were kept separate to fully capture individual character of each site. The wines received immediate critical acclaim, and Chateau St. Jean was soon recognized as a leader in single vineyard designated wines. Today, our winemaker Margo Van Staaveren calls upon 35 years of vineyard and winemaking expertise at Chateau St. Jean to highlight the stunning vineyards we work with."

2005 Serafin Gevrey-Chambertin "Vieilles Vignes"

91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A very ripe but brooding and serious earthy dark berry fruit nose that introduces distinctly sauvage flavors that are rich, mouth coating and palate saturating as the amount of dry extract here is most impressive, all wrapped in a punchy and powerful finish with a core of very ripe tannins. This is by no means an elegant wine but quality like this is very rarely found at the villages level but make no mistake, patience is required. Highly recommended." (1/2008) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep red-ruby. Black cherry, violet and game on the nose. Dense, sappy flavors of dark fruits, m ...Read More »

2014 Ulysses Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

98 points James Suckling: "The evolution of this wine has been phenomenal since I tasted it in barrel a year ago with the same black cherry, plum and citrus character but with a turn to orange leaf, dark Chinese tea, and mushroom. Full body, fine and velvety tannins with a touch of dust to the texture. So much chocolate and fruit undertones with forest floor and hints of tobacco, too. The mouthfeel and complexity are seductive."

2015 Bodegas Colomé "Estate" Malbec Valle Calchaquí Salta

92 points Wine Spectator: "Refined and rich-tasting, with effusive minerality to the red berry and cherry flavors, lathered with plenty of creamy accents. Pepper and cigar box notes show on the long and complex finish. Drink now through 2022" (12/2017) K&L Notes: Produced from biodynamically farmed Malbec, with some Tannat blended in as well, this wine is produced from some of the highest elevation vines in production anywhere in the world, at more than 7,000 feet above sea level! Dark fruit flavors are perhaps a bit juicier and brighter in 2015, with the wine's usual solid overall structure. ... Read More »

2017 Zorzal "Terroir Unico" Pinot Noir Tupungato Valley

The 2017 vintage of what has to be one of our more serious sub $15 Pinot Noirs in Zorzal's "Terroir Unico" is delicious: slightly floral, a bit savory, and nicely structured with precise, lightly firm tannins. Based in the Gualtallary district of the Uco Valley, an area prized for its complex soils containing calcareous, granite, and stone alluvial deposits, Zorzal, and the brothers Michelini who make its wines, are definitely forging a new path for Argentinean wine. Their m.o. is generally to harvest much earlier than everyone else; they prize acidity i... Read More »

2016 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erdener Treppchen Riesling Kabinett Mosel

92 points Vinous: "A lovely, Treppchen-typical nose of honeysuckle, orange blossom and sassafras leads into a palate that is glossy in feel yet buoyant and exceedingly bright in its expression of lime and clementine. There is also a luscious influx of ripe Persian melon. Its sweetness adeptly harnessed, this finishes with tingling brightness, consummate refreshment, mouthwatering salinity and outstanding sheer persistence. The only objection one could lodge – as Christoffel would be the first to acknowledge – would be that this is more of a Spätlese than a Kabinett. ...Read More »

2015 Albert Mann Riesling Grand Cru "Furstentum" Alsace

95 points James Suckling: "Quite shy on the nose, but this is a concentrated wine with a sweetness that is a great counterpoint to the very fresh acidity. Really long and complex spicy-mineral finish. Ends dry and with a couple more years of bottle age, this will be a great wine for lobster and langoustines. Great aging potential." (6/2017) 93 points Wine Spectator: "This minerally white is sleek and creamy, showing lovely integration of the vibrant acidity and flavors of ripe nectarine, petrol, ground ginger and blood orange sorbet. Fine and focused on the mouthwatering finish. Drink now through 2030. ...Read More »

2016 Laberinto "Vista Lago" Mezcla Tinto Colbún

Rafael Tirado owns one of Chile's truly original properties in the tiny, high elevation section of Maule Valley called Colbún. Some of the vines are literally planted in a "laberinto" (labrynth) formation, which in Rafael's words would force him and anyone else working the vineyard to slow down and think! This particular cuvee is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah, and it is delicious. Savory dark fruit still manages to come across as fresh and comparably liithe on the palate.

2016 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spatlese Mosel

92 points Vinous: "Treppchen-typical mint, sassafras, apple and orange immediately call to mind this wine’s 2015 predecessor. Glossy, even subtly oily in feel, yet delicate, it finishes with lusciously juicy, herbally cooling and soothing persistence, adeptly supported by analytically high but well-integrated sweetness. An impression of advanced ripeness such as I would more usually associate with Auslese is reinforced by hints of quince jelly, while suggestions of fresh pineapple introduce welcome tang and complementary brightness to a superbly sustained finish." 2016 Carl Loewen Maximin Herrenberg "1896" Alte Reben Riesling Trocken Mosel

95 points James Suckling: "Welcome to the wild and original Mosel where nothing has been tweaked or put in a spotlight. The texture and balance are even better than the excellent 2015 and the finish is super-long and really polished. Better from 2018 and could easily age for 15 years." (1/2018) 92 points Vinous: "Red currant, white peach and lemon on the nose reconvene on a satiny, subtly oily palate. Piquancy and bite of lemon zest and mustard seed, along with seedy red currant crunch, provide invigoration. This combines density with a sense of lift surprising for a Riesling of 12.5% alcohol, and a s ...Read More »

2008 Trimbach "Cuvée Frédéric Émile" Riesling Alsace

96 points Decanter: "This prestige cuvée is named after the man who started this Alsace wine dynasty, now in the hands of the 13th generation. Always a near-peerless Riesling, this new release is bone dry, structured and elegant, with savoury, nutty, autumnal notes and tangy citrus acidity. It's poised, powerful, complex and concentrated, with a seam of brisk yuzu-like acidity to complement the creamy nougat notes. Drinking Window 2018 - 2030. 2015 Domaine Gerard Mugneret Vosne Romanee

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Vosne-Romanée Villages is fabulous, soaring from the glass with a beautiful bouquet of cherry, raspberry, sweet spices, black chocolate and a framing of creamy new oak. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, with a rich chassis of tannins, bright acids and a long, intense and youthfully firm finish. With the depth and structure for the long haul, this is a Vosne villages to cellar for a decade or more. 2001 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru "Les Saint Georges"

94 points John Gilman: "It had been several years since I last tasted the 2001 Domaine Gouges Les St. Georges, and I was quite impressed with how the wine is starting to blossom on both the nose and palate and show signs of entering its plateau of maturity in the not too distant future. This is a great wine in the making, as it wafts from the glass in a youthfully beautiful blend of cassis, dark berries, stunningly complex soil tones, chicory, red curry, a touch of shoe polish, woodsmoke and a bit of black tea in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied a ...Read More »

2015 Tua Rita "Per Sempre" Syrah Toscana

Deep and fantastic. Savory. 20% whole berry. Best ever? Made from organic grapes." (8/2017) 96 points Vinous: "Tua Rita's 2015 Syrah Per Sempre offers notable textural richness and depth, with a thread of whole cluster aromatic nuance that is woven throughout a core of intense dark fruit. 2015 Chateau Tour de Mirambeau "Cuvee Passion" Bordeaux Blanc

The palate is fresh and crisp with a keen thread of acidity, satisfying weight in the mouth and it fans out with confidence on the gooseberry and fresh pear-driven finish. This comes recommended - a delight. (NM)" (4/2016) 90 points James Suckling: "A bright and lively white with sliced-apple and -lemon character. 2016 Carl Loewen Alte Reben Riesling Trocken Mosel

With just a touch more finesse, this would rate even higher. Delicious now, but this will also live for another 15 years if you cellar it properly." (6/2017) 90 points Vinous: "Sourced primarily from septuagenarian vines in the Leiwener Klostergarten, Loewen’s latest Alte Reben is transparent to nuance and generously juicy, marking a significant contrast to this vintage’s Quant and Varidor bottlings. The bouquet is extroverted with black cherries, Indian ink and touches of vanilla - well defined and generous. The palate is leaning towards redcurrant and strawberry fruit, the acidity nicely defined with a precise, quite tensile finish. This has an effortless charm.(NM)" (12/2016) 90-92 points Vinous: "(from 25-year-old vines): Bright medium ruby. It has razor-sharp precision and superb focus. The palate is medium-bodied with very crisp tannin. There is impressive precision in situ, a beguiling sense of energy percolation through the red berry fruit, merging with more black fruit towards the finish.
