2005 Alfred Gratien Brut Vintage Champagne

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Brut Millésime is a blend of 70% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier and spent 12 years in the bottle. This intensely citrus colored blend shows a deep, stunningly fresh and slightly oaky/yeasty bouquet with candied citrus aromas. Very rich and round on the palate, it has intense fruit and a touch too much sweetness for my taste (dosage: eight grams per liter). It is well-structured, fresh and mineral and will benefit from further bottle aging. Disgorged in November 2017. (SR)" (6/2018) 93 points Wine Spectator: "A lovely, elegant Champagne, with the soft and c ...Read More »

2015 Château Vitallis Pouilly-Fuissé "Les Perrieres"

Vitallis is a new "hidden gem" our buyers found in the Mâcon, where small producers fly under the radar. In classic Burgundian fashion, the Dutron family has been growing vines since 1835, and now owns some of the oldest and best parcels in the village of Fuissé in the Pouilly-Fuissé district. In the glass, the wines live up to the hype: subtle, like any good white Burgundy, but complex, mineral-driven and poised. Denis Dutron uses all French oak, with only a few new barrels, and he also employs traditional "batonnage," stirring the lees through the wine... Read More »

2015 Adelaida "HMR Estate Vineyard" Adelaida District Pinot Noir

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From one of the highest-altitude vineyards in Paso Robles, the 2015 Pinot Noir HMR Estate Vineyard wafts from the glass with an attractive bouquet of wild berry fruit, potpourri, warm spice and underbrush. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, satiny and expansive, with beautifully refined tannins, juicy acids and a long, subtly oak-inflected finish. This is an accomplished Pinot Noir that transcends perceptions of what this variety can achieve in Paso, and I'm looking forward to following future vintages. (WK)" (5/2018) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Paso Robles isn't known for Pinot Noir ...Read More »

2014 Château des Tours Côtes du Rhône Rouge

Jeb Dunnuck writes: "The home estate of Emmanuel Reynaud (of Rayas), Chateau des Tours produces beautiful, fresh and elegant efforts that often bear more than a passing resemblance to the more prestigious (and expensive) wines of Rayas."

2017 Domaine Jean-Michel Dupré "Haut Ronze" Régnié Vieilles Vignes

After inheriting a small 2 hectare vineyard near the village of Beaujeu, Jean Michel Dupre converted an old farm building into a winery and sought out grapes from distinctive vineyards, many with older vines. According to the winery, the La Ronze vineyard is located on a hill located in the Cru Regnie, or "the prince of Beaujolais," as it is the region's newest appellation. A high level of granite in the soil gives the wine a pleasing mix of Gamay fruit and minerality.

2010 Bodegas Muga "Prado Enea" Gran Reserva Rioja (1.5L)

Prado Enea is the flagship wine at Muga, a steadfastly traditional Gran Reserva that is typically only produced 4 or so years per decade. A few key data points make it unique. Let's begin with the vines themselves, which are located in Sajazarra, a village amongst the coldest growing regions of Rioja Alta, further west from Haro and with harvest dates that typically extend well into October, even into November! In addition to Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha and approximately 10% Mazuelo and Graciano are blended in. This creates freshness as the latter two are ... Read More »

2016 Artifice Blanco Ycoden-Daute-Isora (Tenerife)

Artifice is Borja Perez's project featuring vines from his friends in the Ycoden-Daute-Isora D.O on the western portion of the island of Tenerife. This has proven to be one of the most exciting areas for wine production - not only on the Canaries but in all of Spain - with an intense interest in indigenous grapes, farmed organically, produced with most of the principles that could be grouped into the natural wine camp. Produced from 80 year old Listan Blanco vines planted in limestone soils at 500-600 meters, this is a seriously good, explosively fresh a... Read More »

2011 Chateau des Tours Vacqueyras Rouge

91-92 points Vinous: "Bright red. Intensely perfumed aromas of red fruit preserves, smoky minerals and peppery spices, with a lively mineral overtone. Bright and sharply focused, offering intense red fruit and floral pastille flavors lifted by an exotic touch of blood orange. Finishes with sweet, silky tannins that fade quickly into the wine's juicy fruit. Distinctly elegant, in the style of the house and winemaker. (ST)" (1/2014) Jancis Robinson: "Broad and sweet. A bit medicinal and definitely pungent. Ambitious and much better than the vintage average. (17/20 points) (JR)" (11/2013)

2002 Domaine Marc Colin Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Caillerets"

93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is even more aromatically backward and reserved than the prior wine with stunningly elegant and pure citrus and limestone notes that precede remarkably fresh, impressively precise and pure flavors that have abundant mid-palate sap to buffer the racy finishing acidity. Stylistically, this reminds me of the Les Combes as there is another dimension here with that lovely underlying tension and so much dry extract that it completely coats and stains the palate. This delivers grand cru quality. *Outstanding*" (7/2004) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Light to medium-bodied, elegant, and po ...Read More »

2010 Domaine de la Jaufrette Vacqueyras

When first tasting the wines of Domaine de la Jaufrette, the name López de Heredia sprang to mind. That famous Rioja producer is known for its late-release and complex reds that are subtle, old school and long lived. Jaufrette, to my mind, is the Rhône equivalent. Jaufrette is run by Frédéric Chastan, the third generation winemaker to oversee this project. The winery sits just outside the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation but has holdings in Vacqueyras, Gigondas and Côtes du Rhône. All the grapes are hand harvested and hand sorted, and the reds are ferment... Read More »

1998 Domaine Armand Rousseau Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

98 points Decanter: "Good colour. Very lovely nose. Rich and succulent, profound and gently oaky. Fullish body. Lovely balance. Excellent grip and great class. Lots of energy. This is very fine indeed. Will still improve. (CC)" (2/2018) 93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Remarkably forward and earthy for the vintage with obvious and seductive spice notes and round, rich, full-bodied, powerful flavors that offer plenty of punch and a long, classy, vibrant finish. There is good structure here though it is completely buried and while not invisible, very well integrated. A strong wine for this vintage." The length here is simply phenomenal and the intensity of the flavors is almost painful. This slowly builds in intensity from start to finish. A great Bonnes Mares...The young, engaging and very ambitious Vincent Girardin has recently purchased a cellar in Meursault and told me that he plans on selling his home, cuvérie and various cellars scattered around the village of Santenay. 2016 Camino "Soberanes Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Chardonnay

The palate is medium-bodied with an elegant weight and lovely intensity of savory flavors, lifted by lively acid, finishing long and yeasty. (LPB)" (6/2018) K&L Notes: Winemaker's Notes: "The Old Wente selections of Chardonnay provide great texture and perfume. 2016 Adelaida Estate Adelaida District Counoise

Made with Counoise grapes from the Anna's Estate Vineyard, which was named after Elizabeth Van Steenwyk’s grandmother. From the winery: "The red varieties, planted between 2001 and 2006, benefit from ideal sun exposure at the top of the steep, south-facing ridge location and exhibit the nuanced flavors of their elevated mountain site. At between 1,595 and 1,935 feet in elevation, the red varieties lie on an extreme 30 degree slope rooted in devigorating calcareous shale sub soils. The finish is long and develops well." (3/2018) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "A generously ripe touch of apricot hovers before blending in with ripe Amalfi lemon and Granny Smith notes. Brightness and light seem to be at the core of this wine. The mousse is exuberant and flavors are brisk and urgent. 2004 Vincent Girardin Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good medium red. Dark cherry, licorice, rose petal and wild herbs on the slightly medicinal nose. Supple, pliant and sweet, with an attractive juicy character to the redcurrant, licorice, floral and mineral flavors. Quite rich but with spine. The long finish offers excellent grip. (ST)" (3/2007) 88-90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This too is very grapey though with slightly better elegance to the earth-infused, expressive and generous dark berry fruit aromas and flavors that are nicely concentrated and underpinned by round and soft tannins. The finish is long, intense and sweet. This is a great villages." (1/2002) 89-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Formerly known as Burguet's Vieilles Vignes cuvee, the ruby-colored 1999 Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Favorites has a gorgeous nose of super-ripe plums and black cherries. Bapt & Clem 8 Year Old "Alcoholes Finos Dominicos" Dominican Rum Sauternes Finish (750ml)

The exceptional Savanna distillery has been notably unavailable on the American market despite accolades from across the rest of the world. The small distillery on the Island of Reunion is probably one of the most exciting things you can't get in this country. It's unique in that it's operated similar to the Agricole distilleries of the Caribbean, but distills rhums from both fresh cane and molasses.

2016 Domaine Alain Chavy Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru "Clavaillons"

91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru les Clavoillons is reserved and rather aloof on the nose, although that is how we like our Puligny (don’t we?). There are some lovely touches of white peach and yellow flowers here. The palate is marked by a sour lemon note on the entry that complements the energy and concentration conveyed by this Clavoillons. This feels very harmonious with veins of stem ginger and white pepper creating a complex and quite compelling finish and represents one of the best wines from Alain Chavy this vintage. This has a very inviting attitude. Drink now." (9/2018) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Blending 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay with 15% Pinot Noir red wine from the Montagne de Reims, Pol Roger's 2009 Vintage Brut Rosé displays an intense salmon/onion color and a rich, vinous bouquet of red berries and cherries that come along as ripe and dried fruit flavors. Kilchoman "Machir Bay" K&L Exclusive Bottling Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)

It's no secret that we're big fans of Kilchoman distillery here at K&L. Our recent visit to the distillery on Islay really opened our eyes to the incredible job they're doing. Kilchoman is a tiny operation. A true farm distillery. But having tasted the new-make spirit right off the still, I can firmly say that, in my opinion, there is no higher quality peated whisky being produced anywhere else. Kilchoman's hands-on style and attention to detail make a world of difference. Every release has been better than the last, albeit extremely limited in supply. T... Read More »

2016 Smockshop (Hiyu) "Fionn" Columbia Valley Zinfandel

Winemaker's Notes: "Fionn is from the steepest part of the vineyard in the desert. This part of the site is planted to Zinfandel and filled with basalt cobbles. The vines are half the size of those on the lower part of the site. This was fermented in open top vats, whole cluster and tread by foot once a day. After three weeks it was pressed in a basket press directly to older barrels. The wine aged in the barrels for 14 months, on the lees, without any additions before being bottled by gravity. One would never guess that this was Zinfandel. More likely... Read More »

(6/2016) 91 points Wine Spectator: "This white reveals a racy profile yet remains open-knit, with moderate concentration to the butterscotch, white peach and apple flavors. Long, presenting echoes of mineral and oak spice. Drink now through 2022. (BS)" (5/2017)

This is the essence of pinot finesse and is wonderfully seductive. Marc Darroze formally joined his father’s artisan Armagnac firm in 1996 and soon thereafter took the helm.
