2016 Bernier Chardonnay Val de Loire

Jeb Dunnuck: "Coming mostly from estate fruit brought up all in tank, the 2016 Chardonnay is a delicious, undeniably quaffable beauty loaded with notions of ripe citrus, lemon, and grapefruit. With no hard edges and a supple, delicious style, it's not going to make old bones but certainly dishes out plenty of pleasure. Drink 2018-2021." (3/2018) Wine & Spirits: "This is a clean, grape-scented chardonnay, not at all fussy. It could compete with a well-grown Mâcon, mild and soothing, an easy aperitif." (4/2018) Wine Enthusiast: "This crisp, simply fruity wine is light, bright and bursting with lemon and cris ...Read More »

2017 Domaine Renaud Pouilly-Fuissé Vieilles Vignes Top Pick!
2017 Domaine Renaud Pouilly-Fuissé Vieilles Vignes

Domaine Renaud is a small operation, making Mâcon, Pouilly-Fuissé and St. Veran from 12 hectares of estate vineyards. Their cellar is modern, and the winery uses upright ovals for many of the wines, and stainless steel for others. This value is a great alternative to California Chardonnay and an entry into white Burgundy.

2015 Domaine Giroux Macon-Fuisse "Vers Chanes" Top Pick!
2015 Domaine Giroux Macon-Fuisse "Vers Chanes"

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Mâcon-Fuissé Vers Chânes comes from 0.90 hectare of 30-year-old vines and is matured for 14 months in vat. It has a slightly more austere, backward bouquet, perhaps more like a 2016 than a 2015, eschewing the richness of the growing season but delivering satisfying mineral tension. The palate is well balanced with a fresh, apricot and orange zest-tinged entry, a fine bead of acidity and respectable weight and tension on the long finish. Very fine. (NM)" (8/2017) Vinous: "Bright lemon-yellow color. Cool, fresh scents of lemon, lime and white flowers. Richer ...Read More »

2016 Domaine Renaud St-Véran

Once in a great while you find wines from the Mâcon so good that tasting them blind you are forced to apply some much higher (and more expensive) appellation to it. Often, such a wine comes from hillside vineyards, with better drainage and cooler nights. This is such a wine, from the slopes below the giant monolith of rock that is Solutré. Domaine Renaud is a small operation, making Mâcon, Pouilly-Fuissé and St-Veran from 12 hectares of estate vineyards. Their cellar is modern, and they use upright ovals for many of the wines, and stainless for others. T... Read More »

2015 J. J. Vincent Bourgogne Blanc

90 points Wine & Spirits: "Antoine Vincent makes this wine from chardonnay grown in Mâcon and Pouilly-Fuissé, aging 30 percent of it in oak barrels, the rest in stainless steel. The southern accent of the fruit and the time in oak gives this wine a creamy richness, with notes of orange blossom and hazelnuts, while leesy tension brings out the minerality, lending the wine clean definition." Mathilde Blackcurrant/Cassis (375ml)

Wine Enthusiast: "Dark purple, nearly opaque, with a wine-like scent. Warm and rich, this black currant spirit coats the tongue and palate with big, grape-berry flavors. It’s best lightened with bubbly, as in a Kir royale." K&L Notes: There may be no better aperitif for an outdoor spring meal than a glass of dry rosé. Then again, we would not sniff at a chilled Kir, either. Made with any ol' simple white wine (Aligoté is the traditional choice, but a Mâcon or Pinot Blanc work just fine) and the addition of a healthy dash of Crème di Cassis, a Kir is refreshing, palate awakening and th... 2015 JC Fagot Puligny Montrachet AC

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "There is a hint of matchstick character to the acacia blossom and apple compote scents. The suave, round and generously proportioned flavors possess fine concentration though the bitter lemon-inflected finish lacks the same vibrancy as the best in the range. To be sure, this is certainly delicious but I would be inclined to drink it on the younger side as it risks becoming ponderous with age." (6/2017) K&L Notes: The Fagot family has been located in the small village of Corpeau since 1860. Just outside Chassagne-Montrachet, it is located near some of the most prestig... Read More »

2016 Godelia "Pilgrim" Godello Bierzo (Previously $15)

Located in the Bierzo village of Cacabelos, which is on the route of the Camino de Santiago, Godelia is no stranger to pilgrims making this centuries old trek, so they decided to honor them with their introductory line of Bierzo wines. The white is primarily Godello, though there is also a good splash of Doña Blanca blended in as well. A clean, nicely dry white with well defined edges and lots of drinkability. Good Godellos such as this one are Spain's answer to a Macon Villages or other tasty, inexpensive white Burgundy.
