2016 Domaine Louis Moreau Chablis 1er Cru "Vaillons"

Husband-and-wife team Louis and Anne Moreau pretty much do it all here, from the moment the grapes hit the door of their winemaking facility. Louis got his degree in enology from Fresno State and worked for several California wineries before coming home to take over the winery from his father.

2015 Chateau de la Charriere Santenay Blanc 1er Cru "Beauregard"

Château de la Charrière is one of our most popular direct import producers and a label that easily represents the best bang for your buck we carry in Burgundy. Formerly run by Yves Girardin, the business is now run by his young son Benoit, who definitely has modernized the winemaking a bit since his first vintage in 2011. Whereas the wines were a bit funky and rustic previously, the past few vintages are much cleaner; showcasing greater pureness, The 2015 vintage represents their best wines to date, in our opinion.

2016 Domaine Paul Pernot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Pucelles"

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "(from a .28 ha parcel of 35+ year old vines). A classic Pucelles nose features the hallmark honeysuckle scents that add both elegance and breadth to the nose of lavender, anise and white peach aromas. The mouth feel of the medium weight flavors is rich to the point of opulence and like the Folatières, the mid-palate is borderline creamy, all wrapped in a plump and refined finish that flashes impressive depth and persistence. Lovely stuff." (6/2018)

2014 Domaine Vocoret et Fils Chablis 1er Cru "Montee de Tonnerre"

Broad and bone-dry, showing lovely density and stony mineral lift to the flavors of lemon pith, jasmine and ginger. A distinct saline quality carries through on the uncompromisingly dry finish. Two thousand fourteen is clearly an outstanding vintage for this very consistent producer. (ST)" (7/2016)

2016 Domaine Jean-Paul & Benoit Droin Chablis

89-91 points Vinous: "(mostly "Chablis de Chablis," according to Droin, who explained that this wine does not include fruit from Préhy due to the hail and frost and is mostly from vines located between Vaillons and Montmains): Bright yellow. Ripe aromas of lemon zest, minerals and hazelnut, plus a hint of oatmeal reduction. Densely packed, rich and surprisingly fresh, with intense citrus zest and mineral flavors giving the wine a very firm finish. 2015 Domaine Alain Chavy Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru "Clavaillons"

Toast and spice notes flirt around the edges, and this cruises to a superlong aftertaste. Best from 2020 through 2030. (BS)" (5/2018) 90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru les Clavaillons was showing a lot of reduction when I tasted it from vat and was difficult to assess. 2015 Domaine Robert-Denogent Pouilly-Fuisse "La Croix Vieilles Vignes"

91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Pouilly Fuisse la Croix Vieilles Vignes has a very pure and well-defined bouquet with fresh lemon and lime, a touch of yellow flower emerging with time, dandelion, even a hint of burdock. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, good weight in the mouth with a hint of hazelnut and just the amount of bitterness on the finish to keep you coming back for more. My advice is to hold some bottles back for as long as you can because this should evolve into a compelling Pouilly-Fuissé. One of my priorities returning to Mâconnais after a s ...Read More »

(12/2017) Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A discreet but not invisible touch of wood frames the slightly riper aromas of white orchard fruit, lemon and sea breeze. There is a bit more volume and richness to the generously proportioned yet intense flavors that possess adequate if not special depth and length. I wouldn't describe this as entirely classic but there is enough typicity to be at least persuasive." (11/2017) Vinous: "Palish ...Read More »

Best from 2019 through 2027." (11/2017) 91 points Decanter: "This is very pretty, opening in the glass with a bouquet of white flowers, hazelnut, crème pâtissière, green pear and a touch of toasted wheat. There is good vibrancy to the delicious and exceptionally rich middle weight flavors that possess outstanding complexity on the beautifully long if still youthfully austere finale. It has a tightly wound, smoky bouquet, with just a slight reduction that works well. 2016 Domaine A&P De Villaine Bouzeron (Aligoté)

Neal Martin writes: "While Aubert de Villaine is synonymous with Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, there is no question that at least one ventricle of his heart is devoted to his personal estate in Bouzeron that he bought with his wife Pamela in the 1970s. I think it is partly responsible for Aubert remaining such a down-to-earth personality, when others might have succumbed to self-aggrandizement occupying such a position. One would have thought that it would be raised in oak like most grand crus, but instead, this sees 24 months in stainless steel with eight months on the fine lees. That was a clever move because it is undoubtedly the highlight from Louis Moreau this year. It has a vibrant, almost sherbet-like bouquet with touches of lemon thyme and struck flint. 2015 Domaine Renaud St-Véran

Once in a great while you find wines from the Mâcon so good that tasting them blind you are forced to apply some much higher (and more expensive) appellation to it. Often, such a wine comes from hillside vineyards, with better drainage and cooler nights. This is such a wine, from the slopes below the giant monolith of rock that is Solutré. Domaine Renaud is a small operation, making Mâcon, Pouilly-Fuissé and St. Veran from 12 hectares of estate vineyards. Their cellar is modern, and they use upright ovals for many of the wines, and stainless for others. ... Read More »
