Elijah Craig 12 year old K&L Exclusive Single Barrel #1064 Bourbon 750ml (ships as a 1.5L)
It's the end of an era. Elijah Craig is discontinuing their single barrel expression. This means that for the time being, we will not be able to offer Eli Craig as a single barrel. With the impending demise of this special bourbon, we decided to loaded up. We've just received our final four barrels and we couldn't be happier about their quality or more depressed that the single barrel expression is gone. That said, this is one of the most exciting set of casks we've seen yet, so we won't wallow too much. Three of the four barrels were aged on the same floor of rickhouse II and were distilled on the same day. Nonetheless, those three are totally different. Different flavors, different yields, almost totally different bourbons. This cask, #1064, is the softest and roundest of the three. Surprisingly, this is also one of the largest Elijah barrels Heaven Hill has ever dumped (252 bottles). This standards in stark contrast to barrel #1087, just a few rows down, which yielded only 96 bottles. The high yield means this barrel was high proof and high volume and at bottling strength it's absolutely delicious. The nose shows soft mellow oak and honey, with cinnamon & spice to balance the overt sweetness. Fresh cut wood, wet stones, and a distinct underbrush quality give it depth. The mouth is medium with the darker oak flavors coming to the front and the sweetness taking a bit of a backseat. I'm so glad we got a bunch of whisky out of this barrel cause it's absolutely stellar!
