2012 Il Palagio "When We Dance" Toscana (Elsewhere $18)
The entry-level wine from Sting and Trudie Tyler's estate in Tuscany. A blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino which doesn't see any oak. Quite pale, very bright ruby. Bright aromas too - cough sweets and aniseed balls and sweet-sour cherry. Slightly raw fruit on the palate. Chewy tannins. Plenty of fresh acidity and no specious sweetness of fruit but without tremendous depth, and short on the finish. Cheerful, though.
A rich, fruity style, exuding cherry, raspberry, licorice and spice flavors. Finishes with a solid grip of tannins. Drink now through 2015. (Web-2012)
Il Palagio is the Italian wine estate owned by Sting--Sting!--and nursed back to health by the late Biodynamic consultant Alan York. This is one of the first vintages from the estate. Jamie Goode: "13% alcohol. 95% Sangiovese, the balance Canaiolo and Colorino, no oak. Fruity and berryish with cherry pie aromas and some spice. The palate is rounded, fresh and simple with a savoury twist to the sweet cherry and plum fruit. Supple, digestible and balanced." (Wineanorak.com)
