2010 Tablas Creek "Esprit de Beaucastel Blanc" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (Previously $38)
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Light, bright gold. Complex, intensely perfumed scents of fresh pear, nectarine, licorice and smoky minerals. Sappy, palate-staining pit fruit and citrus flavors show a compelling blend of richness and vivacity and gain sweetness in the middle. Big and broad but very lively, finishing with excellent clarity and spicy persistence.
This is the priciest of Tablas Creek’s three new white-Rhône-style releases. A blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul Blanc, it’s rich, dense and oaky. It shows ripe, concentrated orange, mango and apricot flavors, enhanced by oaky notes, with fleshy weight and density. Not an ager, but a distinctive and enjoyable wine.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2010 Esprit de Beaucastel Blanc is bright, focused and beautifully articulated. The higher percentage of Grenache Blanc in this vintage gives the wine lovely lift, energy and focus. White flowers, pears and crushed rocks are layered into the finish. This is a great showing from Tablas Creek’s flagship white. In 2010, the blend is 60% Roussanne, 35% Grenache Blanc and 5% Picpoul Blanc. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016.
Fragrant floral and citrus zest notes announce the fresh pear, lemon and apple flavors, with a medium body and firm acidity.
