2009 La Tour de Mons, Margaux
This assertive red delivers bold flavors, with crisp texture, offering bright black cherry and pomegranate notes over firm tannins. Orange zest acidity carries this through the juicy finish. Drink now through 2020.
40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 55% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. A bit of Marmite yeast extract and a hint of moss on the nose. Very solid and firm with marked dry tannins after impressively ripe but not sweet fruit. More solid than a stereotypical Margaux but a very creditable wine.
Aromas and flavors of currants, coffee and chocolate follow through to a medium body, with firm tannins and a fruity finish. A little subdued. Better in 2016.
(From barrel) Tons of fruit. A good length. Some chocolate and black fruit. Value. (From the bottle) This is one of the better values in red wine in today's market. Quite rich with that forward 2009 Bordeaux fruitiness. Round tannins-great balance and more black fruit flavors. Long and lingering finish. (Clyde Beffa, K&L Staff Member)
