2004 Lafon-Rochet, St-Estèphe
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A big time sleeper of the vintage, the noteworthy 2004 Lafon-Rochet boasts an inky/blue/purple color, sweet aromas of creme de cassis intermixed with smoke, licorice, and toasty new oak, a ripe, medium to full-bodied style, sweet tannin, and loads of flavor as well as depth. This beauty can be consumed now and over the next 14-15 years.
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Bright red-ruby. Blackberry, violet, licorice, leather and herbs on the nose. Juicy and tightly wound, showing less density and sweetness today than the young 2006. A slightly hard, peppery but savory style, with leather and herbal notes and some dusty tannins on the back.
Beautiful aromas of crushed berries and hints of spices. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins and a fresh, clean finish. Long and caressing. Consistently very good quality. Best after 2010.
