For rosé fanatics and fans of exceptional wines of all types, there may be no better pink tipple the world over than this Bandol rosé from the star of the appellation, Domaine Tempier. Hand harvested from vines averaging 20 years old, the blend is 50% Mourvedre with the balance including Grenache, Cinsaut, and a splash of Carignan. This is not a quaffer, mind you. It is a rich, mouthfilling, full-bodied, and broad rosé... dry in the extreme with a pinky/orange color and a subtleness not found in many Southern French wines. It speaks of woodland strawberries, sure, but also of spice, garrigue, rosemary and thyme and a hint of black olives. And when matched with Provençal food, fish or chicken, tomatoes, garlic, olives and aioli, it is completely mind blowing and well worth its not inconsequential price tag.
