1994 Estancia Alexander Valley Meritage
A Bordeaux-style red blend notable not only for its richness and depth, but for its more-than-reasonable price. Complex and concentrated, this has tiers of ripe plum, currant and sage flavors with pretty oak shadings, all lingering harmoniously on the supple finish. Tempting now, but softer in 2000. 66 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 27 percent Cabernet Franc, 7 percent Merlot.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The dark ruby/purple-colored 1994 Meritage is a blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Cabernet Franc, and 7% Merlot. Although lavishly wooded, the wine's high concentration of ripe fruit, admirable purity, and excellent richness counter-balance the oak. The wine is fleshy and full-bodied, with plenty of character, low acidity, and a precocious style. It will age well for 5-7 years. This is one of the finest, most seriously-endowed wines yet produced by Estancia. (RP)
