Seghesio's Sonoma Zinfandel is easily one of the best Zinfandels at this price point. Sourcing from all over Sonoma including Alexander Valley and Dry Creek Valley, this wine is nicely balanced with black and red fruits and lovely spice. A touch of Petite Sirah is added to amp up that classic California Zin character. Pair it with your barbecued meats this summer and you won't be disappointed!

One of the most consistently delicious Zinfandels out there. Seghesio's 2016 bottling is right on the money. Perfectly ripe, juicy, lush Zin flavors but without seeming heavy or jammy. Pure fruit, lovely balance, incredibly versatile food wine...maybe the ultimate summer BBQ grillin' wine?

One of the best Zinfandels in store pound for pound. Aromas of ripe berries, plums, and dark cherries. The palate expresses quintessential ripe dark fruits and subtle stone fruits. Along with balanced acidity, this is everything you come to expect from Sonoma Zinfandel and done fantastically at such a great price.

This Seghesio Zin has long been a customer favorite and it's easy to see why. This vintage is as good as ever, with classic Zin aromas and flavors and enough lift to keep it from falling into jammy territory. Consistency has served these guys well and is a great go-to for Summer BBQs.

I find Seghesio to be one of the most reliably good producers of Zinfandel in the state. Their regular Sonoma County offering is a huge success in 2016, with plenty of wild, dark, brambly fruit and great spice. It is low in tannin, but has good zip on the back end, and I can't wait to crack it open with a big rack of pork ribs!

Zinfandel

- The bid to name Zinfandel California's "State Varietal" may have failed, but this red wine grape, grown extensively in California since the mid-1800s, is grown in few other places in the world. Sadly, much of what's cultivated today is planted where it's too hot and flat. But when planted to well-drained, hillside vineyards that are warm but not too hot, like those in Sonoma County's Dry Creek Valley and Amador County in the Sierra Foothills, Zinfandel can produce wines with plenty of character. High in natural alcohol and tannin, grown carefully it can be rich and complex, with dark fruit berry fruit and peppery spice. The most known example of Zinfandel outside of California is Italy's Primitivo, which can be similar in style, but is often a bit lighter and less alcoholic than West Coast examples.

From its cool and fog-enshrouded coastal regions on the far west, to the sprawling Alexander Valley on the boarder of Napa and the many little dips and peaks in between, Sonoma has been a vital wine-grape-growing region since the mid 1800s. Important sub-AVAs include Chalk Hill (known for chardonnay and sauvignon blanc), Dry Creek Valley (where zin is king) Knights Valley (largely cabernet land), Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast (both celebrated pinot and chardonnay zones).
