2015 Godeau, St-Emilion

SKU #1313579 93 points Vinous

The 2015 Godeau is just as impressive from bottle as it was from barrel. Inky, deep and intensely aromatic, it makes a strong first impression. Although the 2015 is decidedly sumptuous, it also has quite of tannic bite and overall verticality. Readers will want to cellar this explosive Saint-Émilion for at least a few years. (AG) 93+ (2/2018)

91 points James Suckling

Because it’s packed with ripe black fruits and bitter chocolate, the first impression this gives is of softness and easy drinking. Yet the finish reveals itself in a rather serious tannin structure. (2/2018)

89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2015 Château Godeau has a stately, simple, but clean and fresh blackberry and wild hedgerow-scented bouquet. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, structured and dense in the mouth, yet maintaining pleasant freshness and focus all the way to the grainy finish. Give this 3-4 years in bottle and you should have a fine Saint Émilion. (NM) (4/2016)

91 points Wine Spectator

This is packed with boysenberry, fig and raspberry pâte de fruit notes, backed by solid, brambly grip that gives this needed energy, ending with licorice and roasted apple wood accents on the finish. Best from 2020 through 2030. 1,625 cases made. (JM, web only, 2018)

This is the last to arrive of our April 2017 tasting trip finds for value. Vinous scores it 90-93 and we agree. Black raspberries abound on the nose and palate. A sort of new wave entry, but fine acid balance is a hallmark of this wine. First time for K&L to carry this beauty-it won't be the last I am sure. I am loving these 2015s.

Additional Information:

- A very popular red grape variety found in the great wines of St. Emilion and Pomerol. It is the most planted variety in Bordeaux, and it has also become an extremely fashionable red in many regions including California. Although it has a reputation to be smooth, and easy to drink when young, Merlot is also capable of producing extremely intense wines as well. It is often used as a blending agent with Cabernet Sauvignon.

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.
