1995 Miltonduff 19 Year Old Hepburn's Choice K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky (750ml)

SKU #1192850

Miltonduff is an old Hiram Walker distillery that was purchased by Pernod Ricard in 2005. It's known mostly for its role in the Chivas Blended whiskies, but we've had tremendous success with the single malt version through our independent cask business. The Highland flavor is pure, simple, and to the point, often matching other more-renowned distilleries in terms of quality, but for a fraction of the price. This lovely 19 year old cask is classic malt for classic malt drinkers: sweet barley, soft vanilla, a burst of oak spice on the back end, and lovely balance of those three flavors on the finish. At 50%, the flavors are highlighted and more pronounced, offering a bit more pinache than what one normally finds in the 43% market. In hoping to find mature whiskies of 17-21 years of age for $100 or less, we've been turning to some of the lesser-known names of Scotland. In turn, however, we've been establishing those same unknowns in the minds of our customers. It won't be long before most of our clients begin recognizing the Miltonduff name and associating it with one thing: insider value.

An inviting noise that is expressive, floral and malty. In the mouth this Miltonduff is pure, round and refreshing. Michael Jackson, the great whiskey writer, used to describe single malts sometimes as restorative, and I think that that is what this single malt is.

Wildly light in color for the age, but it makes up for it by being so soft and easy. Notes of fondant, vanilla, wild fruit and some pomace fruit continue from the nose to the palate where the malt factor turns up a few notches. Ultra clean, fun and not hard to appreciate. It's nice to have a single barrel cask strength option that you can pour for anyone without worrying that you'll scare them off.

Classic Scotch whisky. If you like Glenlivet, or Glenfiddich, but want a little more punch and vivacity, then this is for you. Sweet grains, vanilla, balanced wood integration. Classic. And for a good price.

You don't get much more quintessential Highland than this, and it's a little more restrained than Hepburn's Craigellachie. This malt is spicy and citrus laden, with subtle chocolate, chili, and cinnamon flavors and a touch of oak.

This is one of the purest, most charming single malt's that I have ever had. If you are looking for something to contrast the big sherry wood and super peaty whisky in your collection, this unique dram will be perfect. The last offering that I tasted that was as effortless as this Miltonduff was the Bruichladdich Bere Barley, but this has more complexity and persistence. A very fine dram indeed!
