Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 Moonamble Shiraz is scented of blackberries, creme de cassis, cedar and black pepper plus touches of dried herbs, violets and licorice. Medium to full-bodied with plenty of mouth-filling black berry and spice flavors, it has got a solid foundation of medium to firm grainy tannins and enlivening acidity, finishing long with some vanilla and cedar notes coming through. Located near the enclave of Moonambel in the center of the Pyrenees region of Western Victoria, Australia, Dalwhinnie is the highest (2000 ft) and most remote of the Pyranees producers, crafting first class Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay for over 25 years. Winemaker's Notes: "The bouquet is exquisite; earthy, woody, dark cherry fruit with attractive spice and savoury black olive complexity. Very rich and textural on the palate. The initial impression is an explosion of sweet dark berry and plum fruits. The mid palate is full and long, the after palate tightens up with grainy well- integrated chocolate-like tannins. The flavour profile is persistent overall, an immensely powerful wine. In my opinion it is probably the best Moonambel Shiraz we have made to date and it is only young. In a few years it will be drinking magnificently."
