Int'l Wine Cellar
(65% mencia, 30% bastardo and 5% tempranillo; fermented in neutral oak and then aged for 13 months in 2-year-old French oak): Bright ruby-red. Expressive aromas of red berries, sandalwood and mocha, with a suave floral topnote. Silky and impressively concentrated, with sweet raspberry and cherry flavors and suggestions of candied rose and allspice. A very long, spicy finish leaves notes of rose and anise behind.

K&L Notes
Produced from a blend of grapes in the Galician D.O. of Monterrei, just south of the city of Orense, QDM's entry level red wine shows a spicy, floral, heady yet bright mix of dark berried fruits that suggests a great future for this region, and that Spain's most interesting terroirs are still yet to be discovered. Proprietor Jose Luis Mateo owns about 14 hectares spread across various plots. For the red wine, grape varieties included are Mencía, Bastardo, Caiño Redondo, Caiño Longo, Brancellao, Souson, Arauxa and others. This is a distinctive, original red for drinking or cellaring several years and definitely a winery to keep an eye on.
