2010 Jacques Puffeney Poulsard "M" Arbois Rouge

Importer Neal Rosenthal writes: "The "Cuvée M" is a special bottling of Poulsard that comes from vineyards located exclusively within the confines of Puffeney's home village of Montigny-les-Arsures. Vinified in a manner similar to its companion Poulsard, the "Cuvée M" is somewhat more substantial with firm tannins in the finish." Jacques Puffeney's father was a grower who owned a tiny plot in the village of Montigny Les Arsures near Arbois in the Jura region of France. By the age of 17 Jacques had made his first wine, but worked as a cheesemaker or "saleur de Comte," making the region's famously delicious Comte cheese in order to make ends meet. He was able to purchase more vineyards here and there over the years, and today the Puffeney estate consists of 7 1/2 hectares, situated in the villages of Montigny Les Arsures, Arbois, and Villette des Arbois - all in the appellation of Arbois. Nicknamed "the Pope of Arbois", Puffeney is one of the most famous and widely respected vignerons in the region, and his wines are admired by discerning palates the world over for their distinctive style and incredible complexity.

Showing classic cigar box and tobacco notes along with crushed cherries, rose petals and incense. The nose is utterly captivating. Very high tone acidity (typical for Poulsard) means this wine wants food but it is incredibly versatile. Serve with grilled pork, seared duck breast, garlicky sausage or even salmon.
