 (55% pinot gris, 40% pinot blanc and 5% aligote): Bright yellow. Intense aromas of pit fruits, poached pear, honey and orange zest, with smoky oak notes and mounting spiciness. Rich and broad on the palate but there's surprising vivacity to the nectarine, pear and candied citrus flavors. Closes on a smoky, gently sweet note, with excellent persistence. I'd serve this intriguing wine with a rich, buttery poultry or shellfish dish.  (10/2011)

 The 2007 Hildegard from Au Bon Climate (55% Pinot Gris, 40% Pinot Blanc and 5% Aligote) sports a healthy medium-gold color and offers terrific notes of buttered stone fruits, marzipan, brioche and toasted nuts. Fresh, elegant and beautifully layered and seamless on the palate, it has vibrant acidity and a great finish. It's a beautiful, mature wine to drink over the coming 4-7 years. (  (8/2017)

 The 2007 Hildegard is a unique wine made from 55% Pinot Beurot (Pinot Gris), 40% Pinot Blanc and 5% Aligote inspired by the composition of the Corton Charlemagne vineyard in Burgundy as it was believed to have been planted during Charlemagne’s reign as Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. The Hildegard is a rich, textured white laced with white peaches, flowers, almond paste and subtle spiciness from the French oak. It shows lovely precision all the way through to the rich, creamy finish. Despite the wine’s generous, open texture, there is no sense of heaviness at all, except for the bottle itself. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015. Jim Clendenen is one of the pioneers of the Central Coast. At their best, his wines capture striking expressions of some of the region’s top sites deeply influenced by a huge passion and admiration for the great wines of Burgundy.  (8/2011)

The fine viticultural Region within California, including the Napa Valley, Sonoma, Santa Cruz Mountains, Mendocino and Santa Barbara, are capable of growing grapes of world-class quality. Santa Maria/Santa Barbara

- Santa Maria and Santa Ynez make up the two AVAs of Santa Barbara County, an area known for its natural beauty and temperate climate. The best grape-growing areas, however, are located on the very coastal reaches of these two appellations, and are cooled by ever-present fog and ocean breezes (it is even cooler and foggier here than Carneros!). As expected, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir thrive while the more inland zones lay claim to Bordeaux varietals and some Rhône blends.
