94 points Vinous: "The 2007 Zinfandel Geyserville is just beginning to enter its first plateau of maturity. Even so, it remains very youthful. Wild dark cherry, leather, smoke, licorice and lavender add layers of aromatic depth. Bright acids perk up the finish and suggest the 2007 still has a long way to go. This is such a gorgeous and expressive wine. I loved it. (AG)" (10/2019) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe, exotic and loaded with personality. Aromas of ripe blackberry, underbrush and licorice lead to concentrated huckleberry and cracked-pepper be...

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In 2002 very small yields produced only about 3,000 cases at 14.7% natural alcohol and a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc. This wine is going from strength to strength since I first tasted it prior to bottling. Now a perfect wine, the incredible perfume of blueberries, black raspberries and cassis, along with white flowers and camphor is extraordinarily fragrant and intense. That is easily matched by the magnificent full-bodied richness and compellingly layered mouthfeel of this wine that is...

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Coming from Mendocino County, the 2015 Chardonnay Anderson Valley offers a riper, slightly tropical style in its aromatics, possessing lots of caramelized pineapples, orange blossom, and honeysuckle nuances, with some toasty, nutty notes developing with time in the glass. With terrific mid-palate depth and fat on the palate, as well as bright acidity and a great finish, it’s what I call a Smoking Value! It’s already impossible to resist, with a rounded feel, yet I suspect it will keep for a decade nevertheless." (08/2017) 92 poi...

94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A more elegant and refined nose places perhaps even more emphasis on the floral component found in all of the Rhys wines that gives way to highly complex and equally refined middle weight flavors that are quite classy and while there is no lack of power or structure, the tannins are finer, all wrapped in a stunningly long and mineral-infused finish. A very stylish effort that should reward medium to long-term cellaring. *Outstanding*" (10/2010) 94 points John Gilman: "As I reported in October, the 2008 Skyline Vine...

This is the first vintage of Kiser Combe de Grès from the Kiser vineyard, 10 miles from the ocean in the Anderson Valley. It comes from a section of hillside vines where a narrow ravine travels from the upper block to the lower block, where the soils change from decomposed sandstone to rich clay with gravelly sandstone. The wine was aged for 15 months in one-third new French oak. Only three barrels of this wine was produced. Winery note: " With the richness of Kiser 'en Bas', combined with the floral, delicate features of Kiser 'en Haut,' 'Combe de Grés'...

This wine is an expression of the partnership between the soils and climate of Camp Meeting Ridge, where each year's differences leave a pronounced effect on this high-altitude, cool-climate vineyard. Ideal weather conditions during the 2008 vintage created rich, concentrated juice. A phenomenon called "millerandage" greatly reduced yields and intensified the flavor in the berries. According to the winery: "The 2008 wines are elegant and complex with bright fruit that will continue to develop."

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the renowned Eisele Vineyard, which has a long history of producing stunning wines (the Ridge 1971 Eisele Vineyard, the Conn Creek 1974, the Phelps 1976 Insignia, and the 1975 and 1978 Eisele Vineyard Cabernets). At present, the Araujos limit production of their estate Cabernet Sauvignon to approximately 2,500 cases. It is a wine that combines the extraordinary power and richness of this hot area of Napa, with stunning purity and delineation. The 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vi...

94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A highly expressive and more immediate nose of spice, floral elements and a ripe combination of plum, red currant and blueberry fruit aromas merges seamlessly with rich, generous and supple medium weight plus flavors that possess lovely detail and precision on the superbly deep and remarkably long finish. The firm tannins are well-integrated and this should age well yet because of the abundance of dry extract, actually be approachable young, at least with an hour or so of air. In short, this is a knockout. *Outstandi...

1997 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Back In Stock!
92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard, is a beauty. The healthy ruby/purple color is followed by classic, unevolved but promising aromas of minerals, cedar, smoke, and black currants. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with admirable purity, a sweet, lush mid-palate, and ripe tannin in the finish. The top-notch 1997 is a classic, restrained. (RP)" (12/2000) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full ruby-red. Expressive nose combines black raspberry, currant, black cherry, chocolate, toba...

93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A deft, indeed almost invisible, touch of wood sets off even more complex aromas of spicy red Pinot fruit and warm earth nuances that also suffuse the concentrated, intense and powerful big-bodied flavors that are supported by distinctly firm tannins and a much more overt sense of austerity on the strikingly long finish. This is built to age and will probably outlive the Home...The estate wines of Rhys Vineyards are made from biodynamically farmed fruit and owner Kevin Harvey and winemaker Jeff Brinkman continue to d...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the finest buys in this portfolio is the 2004 Zinfandel Juvenile, an 800- to 1,000-case blend made from younger vines. It offers plenty of jammy black cherry and briery fruit, low acidity, a plump, heady mouthfeel, good texture, and a seductive, lush finish with abundant alcohol as well as glycerin. (RP)" (12/2005) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(made from young vines from several of Turley's vineyard sources) Medium red-ruby. Dark berries lifted by black pepper on the nose. 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Pinot Noir Santa Cruz Mountains is an excellent introduction to the house style. Floral aromas lead to layers of dark red fruit in this juicy, accessible Pinot. This is the least expensive Pinot in this lineup but it offers terrific balance, and shows no ill effects whatsoever of being tasted among the vineyard-designate bottlings. Fleshy, supple and wonderfully radiant, it will also drink better young than most, if not all, of those wines. The Santa Cruz Mountains is made from barrels that didn’t make i...

93 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Glass-staining purple. Spicy raspberry and candied cherry aromas are complicated by smoky minerals, dark chocolate and fresh violet. Sweet red berry flavors show very good depth and definition, with subtle anise, smoke and violet pastille qualities building with air. The clean finish offers a brisk bite of cracked pepper, a touch of darker fruit and very persistent spiciness. This very seductive syrah displays no rough edges and wonderful energy." Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1968 possessed a complex, earthy, cassis-scented nose, lively, full-bodied, robust flavors, excellent concentration, and a long, spicy finish. While it does not possess the complexity or phenomenal extract of the 1968 Martha's Vineyard, it is still an impressive California Cabernet. (RP)" (04/1992) K&L Notes: 1968 was an excellent year at Heitz, and the Martha's Vineyard bottling once garnered 99 points from Wine Spectator. The regular Napa Valley bottling is no slouch, either. 2010 Rhys "Home Vineyard" San Mateo County Pinot Noir
Back In Stock!
95 points Vinous: "Proprietor Kevin Harvey opened a bottle of the 2010 Pinot Noir Home Vineyard to show how the tannins integrate over time. Today, what comes through is a decidedly extroverted voice, with plenty of dark-fleshed stone fruit, game, violet and licorice all pushed forward. The tannins have softened, releasing the perfumed aromatics and layers of racy fruit. Drink through 2022. (AG)" (07/2015) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The more powerful side of the Santa Cruz Mountains comes through in the 2010 Pinot Noir Home Vineyard. Mas...

93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A ripe, spicy and quite densely fruited nose speaks of a pretty mix of both red and blue Pinot fruit along with background hints of cassis. The restrained intense and strikingly well-detailed medium-bodied flavors possess an abundance of mouth coating extract that buffers the firm tannic spine on the impressively complex, long and exquisitely balanced finish. *Outstanding*" (10/2011) 93 points John Gilman: "The Bearwallow bottling is made from purchased grapes and typically shows the slightly warmer aspect of Ander...

95 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An exceptionally densely fruited nose that is intensely floral and nuanced with stone, spice and soft earth hints complements to perfection the impressively concentrated medium weight plus flavors that brim with dry extract such that the very firm tannins are rendered almost invisible at present though I suspect that they will become more visible as the baby fat recedes. This broad-scaled effort should age for up to a decade and last several more. Magnificent. The estate wines of Rhys Vineyards are made from biodynami...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard is another wine with superb integrity in its fruit and terrific overall balance. Juicy red berries, hard candy, flowers, mint and spices are all woven together nicely. The whole clusters are very nicely balanced. There is wonderful focus and vibrancy throughout, leading to a weightless, totally gracious finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. 94 points Vinous: "The 2010 Pinot Noir (San Mateo County) is simply fabulous. Rich dark cherries, crushed flowers, mint and spices burst from the glass. This is a hugely delicious wine from Rhys. The 80% whole clusters are nicely balanced by the sheer depth of the fruit. This is a flat out stunning wine from Rhys. In 2010 the San Mateo is the entry-level Pinot. The 2010 is bottled under San Mateo appellation, as it includes fruit from Bearwallow (in Anderson Valley) rather than the more typical collection of sites from the Santa Cruz Mountains. Once agai...

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A totally brilliant Syrah that's reminiscent of a top Côte Brune with its mix of iron, black pepper, violets, and game, the 2009 Rhys Syrah Horseshoe Vineyard starts out dense and tight, but slowly unwinds over the evening to show a firm, yet elegant texture, beautifully integrated acidity, and a classically structured and tannic finish. Despite the slightly masculine profile and structure, this has the fruit to handle it. Give bottles 2-4 years in the cellar and then drink over the following decade or longer. Lovers of Syrah shou...

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright violet color. Sexy, highly perfumed scents of musky red and dark berries, incense and Asian spices, with a bright mineral topnote. Fresh, impressively concentrated raspberry and blackberry flavors are firmed by silky tannins and brightened by zesty minerality and a hint of blood orange. Suavely melds richness with energy, finishing on notes of tangy red berry skin and smoky minerals. 93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Beautifully suave and elegant, the 2008 Rhys Syrah Skyline Vineyard possesses classy aromatics of cassis and blackberry fruit that’s perfectly intermixed with violets, black pepper, and loads of chalk and mineral overtones. Amazingly pure on the nose, the wine is medium+ bodied on the palate, highlighting perfectly ripe fruit, an energetic, vibrant and seamless texture, grippy underlying structure, and a very long, focused finish. This shows more and more structure over the evening and is a stunning wine to drink over the next 10 ...

In 1989 Walt and Joan Flowers, with great expertise in agriculture and nurseries, turned their attention and passion to the beautiful Sonoma Coast and its perfect position for growing both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Their success in this venture is quite well known in the wine collector world now, and they produce some of the most striking Sonoma wines around. They produce both Estate wines from their Camp Meeting Ridge and Sea View Ridge vineyards, and wines from vineyards they carefully oversee and control in Sonoma. Their wines always show the beautif...

Showing balanced depth and complexity, light straw to golden color. White peach and lime citrus aromas. A clean wine with lean acidity refreshes the palate. Stone minerals and luscious melon equally contend for attention in this mouth filling, delicious wine. Showing very well now and will continue to gain complexity for 1-3 years.

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Altagracia, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon cuvee from estate vineyards, is the debut vintage. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with low acidity, and plump, sweet, pure, black currant fruit intermixed with mineral and licorice notes. This delicious Cabernet is on a faster revolutionary track than its more profound sibling, the celebrated Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. (RP)" (08/2002) 90 points Wine Spectator: "An elegant, sophisticated wine that relies on finesse and flavor, with creamy mocha-laced cu...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard tends towards a dark red, almost black expression of wild cherries. It is an intensely coiled, powerful wine in need of a few years of cellaring. The mineral notes speak very clearly in this pointed, beautifully articulated Pinot. With time in the glass the wine’s inner perfume begins to emerge, but the best is years away. The chiseled, pure finish leaves a lasting impression. This is the most finely-knit, complete wine in the Rhys portfolio. (AG)" (08/2012) 94 points John Gi...

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Chardonnay Point Rouge has that light goldish-greenish hue to its color, much like the other wines, deep, full-bodied flavors, great ripeness, but more restraint, structure, and almost a sense of tannin given the wine’s firmness. This is a beauty, but given the higher acids in 2005, I would age this for another 6-12 months before I began drinking it. Having said that, I have already consumed two bottles of my allocation at charity events, and they were huge hits with the participants. This wine should ag...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The powerful 2004 Chardonnay Point Rouge is unevolved and backward with high acidity. It behaves like a young red wine in the mouth, revealing plenty of tannin, huge body, and loads of creme brulee, tangerine, lemon grass, buttered citrus, and smoky hazelnut characteristics. This stunning Chardonnay will age well for 7-10 years. (RP)" (12/2006) 95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Green-tinged pale yellow color. Tight, bright aromas of crystallized pineapple and lemon peel. Fatter and larger-s...

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Green-tinged gold. Complex, highly fragrant aromas of peach pit, melon and candied orange, with intense mineral and iodine qualities gaining power with air. Sappy and expansive, offering vibrant pit fruit, pear and anise flavors lifted by zesty minerality. Rich but lithe and stony, finishing with excellent clarity and a persistent note of bitter citrus pith. I was strongly reminded of a serious Chablis. (ST)" (05/2012) 94 points Vinous: "It is amazing to witness just how much freshness and vibran...

93 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Very pure, precisely defined cherryish fruit sits juts beneath an enormous complement of vanillin oak and sweet, root-beer-like spice in the nose, and the tandem of cherries and creamy oak is at the heart of this extravagant wine's highly concentrated and enveloping flavors. There is no missing the Pahlmeyer stamp of extract and richness with this one, but, in this outing, the wine is remarkably well-balanced, and its deep and persistent flavors are in no way diminished or otherwise limited by the pushy heat peeking through...

90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Light ruby. An airy upper register nose of red cherry and Pinot fruit that is ever so lightly spiced leads to nicely balanced, rich and almost delicate barely middle weight flavors that possess excellent flavor authority and more finishing power and persistence than the size and weight of the flavors would suggest. This is lovely and decidedly understated in personality and will please those who appreciate restrained Pinot. In a word, lovely. *Outstanding* " (01/2008) K&L Notes: Alesia is a negociant label of Rhys,...

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard is breathtaking. Everything is in the right place in this dazzling, superb Cabernet Sauvignon. Layers of dark fruit, plums, camphor, licorice and espresso emerge from this effortless, gracious wine. The integration of fruit, tannin and French oak (100% new) is simply phenomenal. There is a dark, brooding quality to the 2008 that is immensely appealing. This is a stunning wine from Araujo. The 2008 is 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. Anticip...

95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale yellow, with a green hue. More mineral-driven than the Horseshoe bottling, displaying scents of candied citrus fruits, pear, anise, honeysuckle and sea salt. Pure and incisive on the palate, with strikingly pure lime, lemon and pear flavors complicated by floral and mineral qualities. Lingers with outstanding intensity, leaving notes of iodine, licorice and lime zest behind. (ST)" (05/2012) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Chardonnay Alpine Vineyard is a much deeper, vertical...

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Araujo’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard is a picture perfect example of the year. Vibrant, precise and beautifully chiseled, the 2010 boasts serious depth and concentration. The aromas and flavors are incredibly vivid in this textured, dazzling Cabernet Sauvignon. Hints of dark blue and black fruit, mocha, espresso and grilled herbs flesh out on the huge finish. Today the 2010 is unusually open, but it is almost certain to shut down in bottle over the next 6-12 months. The 2010 is a super-classic Eisele ...
