96 points Connoisseurs Guide: "There is a sense of sophistication and well-managed ripeness that seem a constant in the best Cabernets of the vintage, and both are apparent in this complex and very well-crafted wine. A nice splash of sweet oak highlights the very keen curranty fruit in its aromas and continues on as a sympathetic partner to themes of cassis and black cherries in the wine's lengthy and beautifully proportioned flavors. Ageworthy by dint of its balance rather than for forbidding astringency, this is one to hide away for at least a half doz...

96 points Vinous: "Not surprisingly, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard is the least expressive of these wines. At the same time, so much of its appeal is in its tightly-coiled energy and tension. Cherry pit, smoke, blood orange, mint and spice open up with time in the glass, but the 2010 is clearly built for cellaring. The wine's brightness and focus are compelling, but the 2010 needs time. (AG)" (10/2015) 95 points Wine & Spirits: "The remarkable aspect of this wine is its texture and weight, its flavors complete and fully concentrated int...

97-98 points James Suckling: "This is mind blowing stuff. Notes of mint, minerals, currants, blackberries, with hints of cedar. Full bodied, very velvety and chewy. This won't be out until 2013. Winemaker believes this could be the best one yet, and I have to agree." (02/2011) 98 points Vinous: "Shafer's 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is all high notes. Sweet red plum and cherry notes meld into mint, spice and new leather, all supported by silky, polished tannins that add finesse to the plush fruit. Rich, opulent and beautifully textured throu...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "A big, powerful wine. Shows classic Quintessa ripeness and density, with focused black cherry, currant, mocha, violet and cedar flavors articulated by firm tannins. Bone dry, this wine, from the winery’s hilly estate vineyard in the northeast quadrant of Rutherford, will develop beyond 2012." (06/2009) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "This vintage of Quintessa is savory and dark, yielding little beyond the sense of compressed black-cherry skins, a tannic character that melds with saline minerality. The edges of the structure are p...

93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A ripe, spicy and quite densely fruited nose speaks of a pretty mix of both red and blue Pinot fruit along with background hints of cassis. The restrained intense and strikingly well-detailed medium-bodied flavors possess an abundance of mouth coating extract that buffers the firm tannic spine on the impressively complex, long and exquisitely balanced finish. *Outstanding*" (10/2011) 93 points John Gilman: "The Bearwallow bottling is made from purchased grapes and typically shows the slightly warmer aspect of Ander...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard, is a beauty. The healthy ruby/purple color is followed by classic, unevolved but promising aromas of minerals, cedar, smoke, and black currants. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with admirable purity, a sweet, lush mid-palate, and ripe tannin in the finish. The top-notch 1997 is a classic, restrained. (RP)" (12/2000) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full ruby-red. Expressive nose combines black raspberry, currant, black cherry, chocolate, toba...

This is the first vintage of Kiser Combe de Grès from the Kiser vineyard, 10 miles from the ocean in the Anderson Valley. It comes from a section of hillside vines where a narrow ravine travels from the upper block to the lower block, where the soils change from decomposed sandstone to rich clay with gravelly sandstone. The wine was aged for 15 months in one-third new French oak. Only three barrels of this wine was produced. Winery note: " With the richness of Kiser 'en Bas', combined with the floral, delicate features of Kiser 'en Haut,' 'Combe de Grés'...

90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "It is hard not to be taken in by the lovely, sweet oak perfumes that take the early lead here, yet there is plenty of bright, young fruit beneath its vanillin veneer, and the wine proves to be fairly complete. Only a slight last-minute drop-off in fruit holds it back from higher award just now, but we do not rule out its chances for better as its knits together and hopefully expands with a stay of a few years in the cellar." (08/2008) K&L Notes: A classic, Bordeaux-style blend made by winemaker Charles Thomas, the 2005 Qu...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the renowned Eisele Vineyard, which has a long history of producing stunning wines (the Ridge 1971 Eisele Vineyard, the Conn Creek 1974, the Phelps 1976 Insignia, and the 1975 and 1978 Eisele Vineyard Cabernets). At present, the Araujos limit production of their estate Cabernet Sauvignon to approximately 2,500 cases. It is a wine that combines the extraordinary power and richness of this hot area of Napa, with stunning purity and delineation. The 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vi...

93 points Connoisseurs Guide: "There is no big burst of fruit or towering wave of sweet oak to make this one an immediate turner of heads, but there is a real sense of sophistication at work here with plenty of depth and layering right from the start. The wine is at once both slightly supple and fairly firm in feel, and its vitality is hard to ignore. It teases with touches of toast and dusty earth spice while hewing to a very long line of optimally ripened currants, and it has all the right pieces in all the right places to grow famously for ten years o...

96-97 points James Suckling: "I can't wait to taste this in bottle. Bright fruit, with currants and plums on the nose. A powerful and structured palate, with plenty of tannins and a long flavorful finish. This is precise, a combination of the 2006 and 2007. Barrel sample." (02/2011) 96 points Vinous: "The estate's 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is one of those rare wines that looks like it will be absolutely delicious pretty much at any point in its life. Super-refined and silky, the 2008 caresses the palate with layers of deeply expressive da...

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Vivid red. Strawberry, raspberry and spicecake on the nose, with a sexy sandalwood quality. In a distinctly vibrant style, with the sexy spice and red berry qualities following through in the mouth. Sappy and fine-grained wine, finishing on a suave note of candied flowers. This will be the last vintage for this wine. (ST)" (06/2010) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Alesia Pinot Noir (1,000 cases produced) possesses tart acidity intertwined with sweet and sour cherry, plum, raspberry, and co...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Altagracia, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon cuvee from estate vineyards, is the debut vintage. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with low acidity, and plump, sweet, pure, black currant fruit intermixed with mineral and licorice notes. This delicious Cabernet is on a faster revolutionary track than its more profound sibling, the celebrated Eisele Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. (RP)" (08/2002) 90 points Wine Spectator: "An elegant, sophisticated wine that relies on finesse and flavor, with creamy mocha-laced cu...

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Chardonnay Point Rouge has that light goldish-greenish hue to its color, much like the other wines, deep, full-bodied flavors, great ripeness, but more restraint, structure, and almost a sense of tannin given the wine’s firmness. This is a beauty, but given the higher acids in 2005, I would age this for another 6-12 months before I began drinking it. Having said that, I have already consumed two bottles of my allocation at charity events, and they were huge hits with the participants. This wine should ag...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Pinot Noir Santa Cruz Mountains is an excellent introduction to the house style. Floral aromas lead to layers of dark red fruit in this juicy, accessible Pinot. This is the least expensive Pinot in this lineup but it offers terrific balance, and shows no ill effects whatsoever of being tasted among the vineyard-designate bottlings. Fleshy, supple and wonderfully radiant, it will also drink better young than most, if not all, of those wines. The Santa Cruz Mountains is made from barrels that didn’t make i...

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Simply put, the 2009 James Berry Vineyard is one of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted from California, or anywhere for that matter. Bright, floral aromatics lead to expressive red fruit in this impossibly elegant, dazzling wine. A melange of rose petals, mint and licorice follows as the James Berry shows off its breathtaking clarity and finesse. Fine-grained, chalky tannins frame the exceptional finish. Frankly, I am surprised this is the first wine of the tasting. Where does one go from here? (AG)" (08...

95 points Wine Spectator: "Firm, tight and well-structured, with a medley of floral, spice and dried currant and a touch of herb and cedary oak. Well-integrated, focused and concentrated, with a long, deep, persistent finish. Will reward cellaring. *Collectibles* (JL)" (10/2007) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Despite having over 40-plus acres of vineyards in the northeasterly sector of Napa just south of Calistoga, the production at Araujo remains relatively limited, with the flagship wine, the Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard, producing b...

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Solidly in the Hillside Select model, this vigorous young Cab is dramatically ripe and powerful. The flavors of red and black currants, milk chocolate, figs and smoky vanilla erupt in the mouth, making the tastebuds jump with joy. However, there is also the structure, among the greatest in California Cabs. The acidity is fine, but the tannins are stupendously rich, sweet and complex, practically a food group in themselves. *Best of 2008, Cellar Selection*" (03/2008) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 is a sin...

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark ruby. Exotic, intensely perfumed black raspberry and cherry aromas are complemented by cola, star anise and licorice. Juicy, impressively precise dark fruit flavors are lifted by tangy acidity and a slow-building blood orange quality. At once supple and lithe, finishing with outstanding energy and an array of dark berry and floral nuances. (ST)" (05/2012) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In this vintage, the 2010 Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard is one of the more immediate wines in the lin...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard is another wine with superb integrity in its fruit and terrific overall balance. Juicy red berries, hard candy, flowers, mint and spices are all woven together nicely. The whole clusters are very nicely balanced. There is wonderful focus and vibrancy throughout, leading to a weightless, totally gracious finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright violet color. Sexy, highly perfumed scents of musky red and dark berries, incense and Asian spices, with a bright mineral topnote. Fresh, impressively concentrated raspberry and blackberry flavors are firmed by silky tannins and brightened by zesty minerality and a hint of blood orange. Suavely melds richness with energy, finishing on notes of tangy red berry skin and smoky minerals. 93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A deft, indeed almost invisible, touch of wood sets off even more complex aromas of spicy red Pinot fruit and warm earth nuances that also suffuse the concentrated, intense and powerful big-bodied flavors that are supported by distinctly firm tannins and a much more overt sense of austerity on the strikingly long finish. This is built to age and will probably outlive the Home...The estate wines of Rhys Vineyards are made from biodynamically farmed fruit and owner Kevin Harvey and winemaker Jeff Brinkman continue to d...

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good bright, dark red with ruby highlights. Pure aromas of redcurrant, loam and licorice. Pliant and sweet, offering good texture and extract to its flavors of plum, currant, mocha and brown spices. Finishes with broad, sweet tannins and a drop of milk chocolate. " (06/2013) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Well-built, with a firm core of dark berry, cherry and wilted rose, showing good density and intensity. This gains depth and holds focus, ending with ripe, chewy tannins. Drink now through 2022." (07/...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Despite having over 40-plus acres of vineyards in the northeasterly sector of Napa just south of Calistoga, the production at Araujo remains relatively limited, with the flagship wine, the Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard, producing between 1,600 and 2,200 cases of wine, and the second wine, the Altagracia, between 800 and 1,200 cases. Add to that another 1,000 cases of Sauvignon Blanc and 300-400 cases of Syrah, and there is just not a lot to go around given the greatness that can be achieved from this vineyar...
