In 1973, Daniel Dugois bought two hectares of vineyard and a house equipped with wine cellars in a village called Les Arsures, where he was born. He cultivated the vineyard and sold his production primarily to Henri Maire, one of the most prominent producers in Jura at that time. In 1982, Daniel made his first harvest in his own cellars and began to sell his wines to consumers. His first ever harvest earned him his first Gold Medal for his Chardonnay at the Jura Wine Contest. Daniel and his wife Monique have continued to work on the quality of their wine...

2015 Cave de Tain "Grand Classique" Crozes-Hermitage Blanc (Previously $20) (Previously $20)
New!
Cave de Tain is no simple cooperative. They are the stewards of some of the best holdings in the Rhone Valley in particular, Hermitage and Crozes-Hermitage. The winery was founded in 1933 by Louis Gambert de Loche, himself a holder of about 50 acres on the fabled hillside. Since its inception and a few generations later, the winery works directly with all its growers using sustainable practices in all the vineyards. This Crozes-Hermitage Blanc is 100% Marsanne sustainably farmed from vines averaging 35 years of age.

Producer's note: "Alberico White is a wine of bright yellow color with greenish tones. To the nose, very intense notes emerge which are persistent, complex and toasty, reminding citrus and exotic fruits, buttery sensations and vanilla. To the palate it is soft, harmonious, sapid, fresh, persistent and elegant. The Sémillon finds in the volcanic soil a very special personality that allows it to best express all its characteristics. The prolonged aging in cask enhances its roundness and makes the Alberico White a unique wine in its area."

92 points James Suckling: "A very subtle muscat with light apricots and hints of flowers. Medium to full body, some stones and spicy and bitter peaches. Oily texture but a fresh finish. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now. " (12/2016) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A touch of fresh bay leaf, wet earth and musk rose combine to make a very enticing intriguing nose. The resolutely dry palate carries these lovely aromatics with zesty freshness and lovely zesty texture that is reminiscent of grapefruit peel. It is its abiding freshness that makes ...

93-94 points James Suckling: "A very tangy and bright white with intense white peach, grapefruit and mineral character. Full body, crisp acidity. Gorgeous. One of the best Carbonnieux ever. " (04/2014) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fresh, fruity and fragrant, this wine has a pure line of acidity and crisp citrus alongside its tangy texture. The tightness shows its aging potential; drink from 2020. Founded in the 13th century by Benedictine monks, Château Carbonnieux is one of the oldest estates in the Bordeaux region. In 1956, Marc Perrin purchased the c...

2015 Greywacke Chardonnay Marlborough
Top Pick!
96 points Sam Kim: "The bouquet is gorgeous and expressive, showing white flesh stone fruit, rockmelon and nougat characters with a subtle infusion of vanillin/cedary oak. The palate is concentrated and flavoursome, delivering excellent weight and rounded mouthfeel, wonderfully complemented by creamy texture and bright acidity. The wine offers splendid energy and presence with a persistent silky finish. At its best: now to 2025." (08/2017) 95 points Bob Campbell: "Quite a rich, full-flavoured and complex chardonnay with grapefruit, white peach, toasted...

Wine Spectator: "This is racy, boasting lemon, apple and mineral aromas and flavors, with hints of hazelnut cream and citronella. Leans toward the bracing acidity as this lingers. Best from 2019 through 2028. (BS)" (12/2017)

Kabaj (Ka-bye) have farmed their vineyards for many generations. When Katja Kabaj met French oenologist Jean-Michel Morel after his stint at an Italian winery, they fell in love and eventually married. Jean-Michel brought some of those Italian and French sensibilities to the winery along with his fondness for working with amphorae. Those who have tasted Kabaj whites know that these wines range from light to full skin contact for the whites. And that the "Sivi" Pinot Gris is truly intriguing. It's aged for two weeks on the skins and then for about a year ...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Lemon oil and chamomile tincture create a lifted, ethereal nose, preceding richer notions of dried pear and apple. The dry palate reveals concentration and a fluidity that has something balm-like about it. The lemon freshness at the core stays arrow-like and darts across the palate in exciting fashion in a counterpoint to the rich fruit notes. The joy of Riesling is right here. (AK)" (11/2018) 91 points James Suckling: "Some early development, moving into preserved-lemon and lime aromas here with a lightly honeyed and spicy ...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Chardonnay Zio Tony Ranch has a gregarious nose of ripe melons, pineapple and green mango with hints of buttered toast, acacia honey and candied ginger. Medium-bodied, the palate offers great finesse with the intense flavors beautifully focused by racy tension, and it finishes with persistent mineral and spice layers. (LPB)" 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "A salty air of quince and tart lemon give life and freshness to this focused and expansive white, from a site long farmed by the Martinelli family in the...

Domaine Baud's flagship wine. A powerful, deeply golden elixir with intriguing notes of hazelnuts, almonds, truffle and curry. This shows finesse and elegance in spades, thanks to the very special blue marl soil in which it is grown and careful cultivation. The wines of Château Chalon must be made in the vin jaune style, aging for six years in barrel, which requires a veil of surface yeast to develop. This style of winemaking lends the wine its hallmark characteristics.

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Exotic yellow-spice notes meet with lean lime pith on the light and crisp nose of this old-vine expression from a historic winery. Meyer-lemon rind and juice show brightly on the palate, where grippy chalkiness complements rich lemon-curd flavors. (MK)" (11/2016) Wine Spectator: "The peach and honey flavors are accented by a squirt of juicy lime juice in this fleshy and succulent version, with a touch of toasted almond. Very smooth and creamy on the refreshing finish. (MW)" (11/2016)

2007 Trimbach "Cuvée Frédéric Émile" Riesling Alsace
Top Pick!
97 points James Suckling: "Aromas of cooked pear, apple and white pineapple follow through to a full body with incredible dryness and a mineral finish. White pepper and oyster shell too. This is so serious and unforgiving yet a phenomenon. Owners say it is the driest Fred ever." (09/2015) 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "One of Trimbach's top wines, this impressive Riesling, with all its bottle time, is maturing beautifully. It has that petrol character that is typical of aged Riesling, as well as a strong sense of steeliness and intense acidity on the fini...

93 points James Suckling: "Has some of the earthy power and complexity of a grand cru. An excellent balance of white-fruit character with robust minerality and crisp acidity, driving the imposing finish. Drink or hold." (05/2018) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The nose is rather closed but gives faint notions of waxy honeycomb. The palate is alive with lemon freshness to counter that textural waxiness that creates the backdrop of the palate. This wine has concentation and impact with its lemony power despite the relative slenderness of the body. The finis...

From the winery: "A vibrant and lively Santa Cruz Mountain Chardonnay from a 24 year old vineyard planted just a few miles from the Pacific. The fragrant nose and beautiful texture will appeal to those who prefer to taste the fruit without oak influence."

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "From the exceptional site atop Spring Mountain, this white is lovely and complex, a mix of sharp tangerine, orange and lime flavor that packs within its layers of fruit an undeniable thirst-quenching acidity. The oak is supportive and subtle, playing a supporting role with deft ability. (VB)" (05/2018)

97 points James Halliday: "From 20 rows of Gingin clone on the Stevens Road Vineyard, whole bunch-pressed, wild-fermented in French barriques (30% new), stirred during 9 months maturation, no mlf, a best barrel selection. This is a twin to the Reserve, sharing far more things in common than points of difference, this slightly finer and more open, the flavour spectrum and balance are nigh on identical, and to force the issue, this wine is readier than the Reserve. " (11/2016)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Noticeably richer and more textured, with buttered citrus, honeysuckle, crushed rock, brioche and sautéed peach notes, the 2014 Condrieu les Chailles de L'Enfer is a rich, medium to full-bodied, impeccably-balanced effort that has more than a passing resemblance to its bigger brother, the Coteaux du Vernon. (JD)" (12/2016) 94 points Vinous: "Vivid yellow. Expansive aromas of nectarine, ripe citrus fruits, mango, fresh fig and pungent flowers and a hint of smoky minerals in the background. Broad, fleshy citrus a...

Winemaker's Notes: "Wet stone aromas yield to wafts of melon, Meyer lemon, and lime zest. The citrus filled palate leads to a soft center of pear with vanilla shortbread then unfurls a pert and lively finish; uplifting and everlasting."

2015 Domaine Laroche Chablis 1er Cru "Fourchaume" Vieilles Vignes
Top Pick!
93 points Decanter: "Fourchaume, like Montée de Tonnerre, faces west, and is one of the warmest premiers crus in Chablis. There is iron as well as limestone in the soil, which gives the wine unusual grip. The nose is reserved, even stern, and nutty rather than fruity, but that in itself is typical of fine Chablis. The palate is rich and sumptuous, very ripe and concentrated, with force and energy. It's also very mineral and spicy, with an almost saline character as well as considerable power and extract. Very long. Drinking Window 2019 - 2030. (SB)" (11/...

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is a bit more elegant than the Les Clos with its ripe, pure and pretty aromas of lavender, apple, wet stone and white orchard fruit scents that are trimmed in soft though not invisible oak nuances. There is very good density to the relatively restrained medium-bodied flavors that possess plenty of minerality on the rich, sappy and palate coating finale. This is a really lovely effort that displays the natural class of a fine Preuses." (10/2017) 92 points Decanter: "Subdued apple and apricot nose, with a light ...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This small property with its own château lies within the lower portion of Vaudésir but is considered a Grand Cru in its own right. The wine—the flagship of the cooperative—is opulent, showing strong wood aging flavors that will soften with time. Ripe and generous with yellow fruit flavor, it also boasts a tight mineral acidity and crispness, making it a good candidate for cellaring. Drink from 2021." (06/2017) 92 points Decanter: "Floral, earthy nose and marvellous energy on precise palate of engaging juicy, almost sweet-and...

In the ever more popular category of skin contact white wines, Slovenia is a go-to country for reference-point examples of the kind of quality that is now populating the market. For a number of years now (since long before these wines were hip among the "cool kids"), Kabaj has been a standard bearer for the Goriska Brda appellation. The dense sandstone and slate soils are ideal for producing vibrant, electric, aromatic wines from the native white varietals of northern Italy and Slovenia. The Luisa, named for winemaker Jean-Michel Morel's grandmother, is ...

Wine Spectator: "Light-bodied and tangy, this dry Muscat shows notes of orange blossom and orange granita, with hints of lemongrass and spice. (Web-2014) (AN)"
Price: $25.99

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Chardonnay is a little reticent to begin, slowing unfurling to reveal lemon tart, apple pie and nectarine notions with hints of honeyed toast, cashews and orange blossoms. The medium-bodied palate is refreshing and elegantly styled with many citrus and stone fruit layers accented by savory suggestions and a satiny texture, finishing long and mineral laced. (LPB) 93+" (06/2018) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "There's a note of barrel influence on the nose, a heartiness of oak that weaves within the greater ...

93 points James Suckling: "Slightly flinty aromas of lemons and dried pears. Really pristine and vibrant. The palate has impressive mango and yellow-peach flavors set in a smooth, fleshy core and a long, deep finish." (02/2018) 93 points Vinous: "A wine of cut, energy and tension, the 2015 Gazin Rocquencourt Blanc is gorgeous. The green orchard fruit, mint, lime and citrus notes all pulse with considerable vibrancy and tons of Sauvignon Blanc character. Yields were just 40 hectoliters per hectare. The wine was fermented and aged in barrel, 40% new. Tas...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "My favorite of the Chardonnays, the 2014 Chardonnay Horseshoe Vineyard reveals more minerality than the Alpine Vineyard, with lots of crushed rock, caramelized white currant, white peach and a distinct saltiness all emerging from the glass. This rich, beautifully concentrated and layered Chardonnay needs 2-3 years of bottle age and will keep for a decade. (JD)" (10/2016) 92 points Vinous: "A rich, voluptuous wine, the 2014 Chardonnay Horseshoe Vineyard is also the most overt of the Rhys Chardonnays. Orange jam,...

Jancis Robinson: "Honey, jasmine, cherry and marzipan – most unexpected for white, but it really works! Full and glossy and gummy in texture. Warm on the finish. Thick, impressive, satisfying and unusual. (RH)" (03/2018) K&L Notes: This historic estate, situated in the hills just south of Aix-en-Provence, has been in the hands of the Rougier family for two centuries and holds a virtual monopoly on the appellation of Palette. The Blanc is composed primarily of Clairette, with some Grenache Blanc and other local varieties. The white is fermented in small...

2011 Trimbach "Cuvée Frédéric Émile" Riesling Alsace
Top Pick!
94 points James Suckling: "For a seven-year-old dry white, this has great vitality. The more air it gets, the more candied-citrus, pear and dried-herb aromas emerge. Although the wine's frame is on the sleek side, there's serious concentration. The finish is very long with a cascade of herbal and mineral notes." (05/2018) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Trimbach’s 2011 Riesling Cuvee Frederic Emile leads with a fascinating nose mingling quinine and smoky black tea with the more usual lime, white peach and crushed chalk. Silken-textured and ge...

93 points James Suckling: "A complex and maturing Gewurztraminer with a lot of subtle candied fruit and a hint of spices. This almost-dry wine has fascinating textural complexity and clean mineral acidity, allowing the wine to carry a tiny hint of bitterness at the long dry finish." (05/2018) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Selected and harvested at the peak of the grapes's ripeness the 2012 Gewurztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs Ribeaupierre is very clear and intensely aromatic on the fresh and nobly perfumed nose where lime and orange oil flavo...

99 points James Suckling: "A stunning wine with ethereal aromas of sliced apple, sliced pear and mineral character. Flowers and honeysuckle too. Full-bodied, very tight and dense. It goes so deep and beautiful. Bright and tangy acidity. Has the depth of a great vintage of grand cru Burgundy but is so Clos Ste. Hune in character. Muscularly feminine and breathtaking." (09/2015) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Riesling Clos Ste Hune is clear and intense on the concentrated nose, offering ripe white-fruit aromas. On the palate, this is ...

93 points Vinous: "The 2014 Chardonnay Camp Meeting Ridge bristles with energy, tension and class. Lemon peel, white flowers, mint and white pepper give the 2014 lovely aromatic brightness and kick throughout. Crystalline and pure, the 2014 is a terrific choice for drinking now and over the next few years. (AG)" (03/2017) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This medium-weight wine shows a crispness of style and provenance. Caramelized oak is softened and made fruity by the taste of apple skin and pear. Stony mineral is given additional freshness by layers of ...

2004 Pavillon Blanc, Margaux (Previously $330) (Previously $330)
Top Pick!
92-94 points Vinous: "Extremely fresh, deep nose combines quinine, ginger, minerals and citrus fruits, with white peach and honey notes that suggest viognier (I could not possibly have guessed that this wine was entirely from sauvignon blanc). Rich, honeyed and powerful, with superb fat and depth of flavor. Notes of peach, citrus fruit, hay and honeydew melon. Pontallier says this may be Margaux's best Pavillon Blanc ever, and I certainly can't recall a more promising vintage. (ST)" (05/2005) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Has beautiful aromas of mineral, ...

93 points John Gilman: "The 2014 vintage is the new release of chardonnay from this Napa Valley chardonnay institution, and like all Stony Hill wines, this is meant for the long haul. Today, one is only sampling a percentage of the complexity that will emerge with extended cellaring here, but all of the constituent components are in place for an outstanding vintage of Stony Hill Chard. The bouquet is pure and precise, offering up scents of pear, lemon, white soil tones, apple blossoms, hints of beeswax and a very, very discreet base of vanillin oak. On t...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Extremely clean on the nose, pure aromas of lemon mousse, coconut milk and white peach are cut by a chalky minerality and fresh lemongrass scent in this bottling. There's a pencil shaving touch to the sip, which is a tad riper than expected, with mouth-watering lemon cake and cream flavors. (MK)" (12/2017) 87-90 points Vinous: "The 2015 Chardonnay Dierberg offers lovely focus and energy to match its mid-weight, gracious personality. The flavors are nicely sculpted in this understated Santa Maria Chardonnay. Winemaker Ariki H...
