93 points Connoisseurs Guide: "As intense as it is so very varietally precise, this is an exceptional Syrah of considerable scope and authority whose deeply fruited, distinctly peppery aromas quickly draw one in and, if anything, are surpassed in richness and range by the wine’s even deeper, altogether complete flavors. Unabashedly ripe and very full-bodied without intimating heaviness and still on the youthfully sinewy side on the palate, this is one that in no uncertain terms begs for cellar time, and it is guaranteed to reward six to ten years of age ...

Qupé's flagship "Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard" is right around the corner from Alban and produces brilliant wines that balance Old World elegance with Central Coast flair.

98-100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "On another level, and unquestionably the best of the three vintages, the 2015 Côte Rôtie La Mouline sports an inky purple color as well as an off-the-charts bouquet of black currants, smoked herbs, spring flowers, gamey meats, and acacia flowers. Massively concentrated, opulent, and as sexy as wine gets, it reminds me of the 1978 La Mouline and has perfection written all over it. If you can afford it, this is a magical, legendary wine in the making that will keep for 4-5 decades." (12/2018) 99 points James Suckling: "A very ...

95 points Decanter: "The fragrant bouquet of creamy Christmas cake leads into a multifaceted palate of black fruit, prune, spice and cassis with affably dry, chalky notes. Bursting with quality. Platinum - Best in Show: Best Value Red Rhône Varietals - Decanter World of Wine Awards, 2017. "

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Seeing 22 months in barrel, the 2015 Fracture 22 possesses additional richness and depth over the base cuvée. Crème de cassis, black currants, smoked meats, licorice and roasted herb characteristics give way to a full-bodied, opulent, incredibly hedonistic Syrah that has a layered, silky texture, sweet tannin and a forward style that’s still going to surprise in the cellar give its balance and richness." (08/2017) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "“I want my softest, most textured, rounded Syrah with density and gentle t...

98 points Bob Campbell: "Supremely elegant syrah with floral, violet, black and white pepper, dark berry, chocolate, liquorice and mixed spice flavours. A fine-grained wine, with a backbone of ripe tannins that suggests potential without being a barrier to enjoyment right now. Beautifully layered with a complex array of flavours and lifted aromatics" (10/2017) 98 points Sam Kim: "Formidable and luxurious, this dramatic syrah displays blackberry, plum, black olive, violet and toasted almond characters with hints of black pepper and game on the nose. It ...

96-98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Scheduled to be bottled just after this visit, the 2015 Côte Rôtie Château D'Ampuis reveals a deep ruby/purple color as well as an extraordinary bouquet of smoked black fruits, caramelized blackcurrants, leady herbs, ground pepper, and earth. It's deep, rich, massively concentrated, and a powerhouse of a wine that’s going to need bottle age, but wow, what a wine! The big news at the Guigal estate is the purchase of Domaine de Nalys in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The family has always wanted an estate in the South, and Nalys is an unr...

2015 Georges Vernay "Maison Rouge" Côte-Rôtie (Elsewhere $150) (Elsewhere $150)
New!
96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Côte Rôtie Maison Rouge comes from the southern part of Côte Rôtie and is mostly destemmed (there’s 25% stems) and is brought up in 25% new French oak. It’s unquestionably the finest red I’ve tasted from the domaine, boasting awesome notes of black raspberries, blackberries, ground herbs, exotic flowers, and spice. As always, it’s not a powerhouse and offers incredible elegance and finesse in its texture, fine tannins, and great finish. Hide bottles for 2-4 years and it will drink brilliantly over the following 10-15." (1...

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 No. 4 checks in as a blend of 90% Syrah, 6% Viognier, and 4% Mourvèdre that spent 22 months in 70% new French oak. Sporting an inky purple color, it offers a killer perfume of blackberries, blueberries, exotic flowers, orange marmalade, violets, Asian spices, and graphite. Getting a serious "Wow" in the notes for its sensational complexity, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, stunning purity of fruit, and a focused, chiseled yet voluptuous texture. This beauty has everything: complexity, depth, richness, purity,...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard is excellent, wafting from the glass with aromas of grilled meat, red and black plums, raw cocoa, rich soil and subtle notions of violets and lilac. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, crunchy and concentrated, with a lovely core of sweet fruit, chalky tannins and a long, savory finish. (WK)" (04/2018) 94 points Vinous: "The 2015 Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyards conveys an impression of brightness and finesse from the very first taste. Blue and purplish berry fruit, lavender, mint ...

99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The extended aged 2015 Syrah M is more backward and structured, with the 2015 vintage character front and center. Based on 90.6% Syrah and the rest Petite Sirah, Grenache, and Viognier, aged 38 months in 66% new oak, its deep purple color is followed by powerful notes of blackcurrants, blackberries, cedarwood, spiced meat, candle wax, and white flowers. It’s deep and full-bodied, with a huge mid-palate, building tannins, and one serious finish. This rocking beast of a Syrah stays remarkably elegant and perfectly balanced yet needs...

93 points Vinous: "Another highlight in this range, the 2015 Syrah Tierra Alta Vineyard is powerful and explosive in the glass, with tremendous energy coursing through its veins. Licorice, smoke, crushed rocks and menthol are all pushed forward. (AG)" (09/2018) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Syrah Tierra Alta is excellent, offering up a deep bouquet of blackberry, elderberry, purple flowers and subtle grilled meat. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with an ample core of fruit, velvety tannins, good juicy energy and a lovely sen...

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The most expensive Syrah from Matt is the 2015 Syrah Stonessence and there’s a scant 325 cases made. Its deep ruby/plum color is followed by a salty, bloody Syrah that has loads of complexity, full-bodied richness, sweet tannin, and a big finish. Black raspberries, peppery herbs, dry aged beef, and hints of lavender all emerge from the glass and while it’s already singing, it’s going to evolve gracefully for 10-15 years." (04/2018) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Syrah Stonessence is the most inky and brooding...

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Co-fermented with 6% Viognier, the 2015 Syrah In The Rocks is striking, bursting from the glass with an expressive nose of potpourri, wild plums, espresso roast and grilled meats. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, lavish and velvety, with savory flavors of roasted meats and wild dark fruits, concluding with a sapid, saline finish. While I don't think this boasts the depth and dimension of this cuvée's best vintages, it's a beautiful wine with a strong personality. (WK)" (06/2018) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Lit...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Fermented with 6% Viognier, the 2015 Syrah In The Hills is already very expressive, bursting with aromas of ripe blackberries, dark chocolate, grilled meats, lavender and black olive. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, rich and lavish, paradoxically fresh and mouthwateringly saline despite its low acidity, with a savory core of fruit and a nicely delineated finish. (WK)" (06/2018) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Shows remarkable personality and polish, offering expressive raspberry and bacon fat aromas and d...

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Foothills Reserve is 100% Syrah from the estate vineyard located around the winery. It’s one of the more tight and reserved in the lineup, yet has tons of potential. Ripe red and black fruits, spice, smoked game, tapenade, and peppery notes all emerge from this full-bodied, rich, concentrated Syrah that has sweet tannin and moderate acidity. Give it a year or two and enjoy over the following decade." (04/2018) 95 points James Suckling: "Lots of blackberries, smoked meat and black-pepper character. Full-bodied, layered a...

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Syrah Sur Echalas Vineyard is just as striking as its Grenache sibling, unfurling with an equally complex nose of sweet cassis, beef blood, bitter cocoa, peony and violets, with notions of grilled meat and truffle emerging with time. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and amazingly intense, with a deep and multidimensional core framed by remarkably satiny, layered tannins, concluding with a long, saline finish. (WK)" (06/2018) 96 points James Suckling: "Beautiful dried-rose florals here with very f...

2015 Pride Mountain Sonoma-Napa Counties Syrah
Back In Stock!
94 points Vinous: "The 2015 Syrah is fresh, delineated and full of nuance. Medium in body and gracious, with striking aromatic lift, the 2015 is fabulous. The inclusion of 25-30% whole clusters helps to give the Syrah a level of aromatic freshness and lift that is hugely appealing, especially in this vintage, where so many wines are overly heavy. A burst of sweet red cherry, pomegranate and rose petal punctuates the finish in this compelling Syrah from Pride. (AG)" (03/2018)

89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Leading off the two reds I was able to taste from this estate, the 2015 Saint Joseph Empreinte was mostly destemmed and is still aging in a combination of 500-liter barrels and a small amount in stainless steel. Notes of cassis, black raspberry, crushed flowers, olives and some gamy notes all give way to a rich, full-bodied St Joseph that has juicy acidity and a good finish. It has outstanding potential. (JD)" (12/2016)

2015 Booker "The Ones" Paso Robles Syrah
New!
99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Syrah Ones is another cellar selection checking in at the top of the vintage. I’d also wager it’s one of the most impressive Syrahs made in California. Black currants, crème de cassis, toasted bread, vanilla bean and smoked meats give way to an unctuous, full-bodied, structured Syrah that has no hard edges, present tannin, and a blockbuster finish. It needs short term cellaring to integrate is oak, and will keep for two decades." (08/2017) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 100% Sy...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Another perfect wine, the 2015 Ermitage Le Pavillon comes from the Bessards lieu-dit on Hermitage, which is pure granite soils. I've said it before, but will say it again, this is unquestionably the finest, most singular vineyard for Syrah in the world. Cassis, graphite, smoked herbs, liquid rocks and violet aromas give way to a huge, concentrated, opulent and off-the-charts beauty that just hints at its ultimate potential. I wouldn’t think about opening bottles for at least a decade, after which it will keep for 4-5 decades." (0...

97 points Vinous: "The 2015 Syrah is a total stunner. Bright, polished and impeccably nuanced, the 2015 is all class. Here, too, the purity of the flavors is simply remarkable. Today, the 2015 is quite primary and in need of at least several years in bottle to be at its very best, and yet all the ingredients are there for that to happen. A touch of whole clusters and drops of Viognier add an attractive floral upper register. Stated simply, the Syrah is a wine of precision and class. Only Paolo De Marchi can make Syrah of this level in Tuscany." AG" (02/2...

Seamless and focused on the palate, offering deeply concentrated red/blue fruit liqueur, candied violet flavors and an energizing jolt of exotic spices. Finishes with strong mineral, smoke and red fruit character, with well-knit tannins and very good tenacity.(JR)" (04/2018) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Ogier's entry-level Côte Rôtie is concentrated, ripe and rich this vintage. The 2015 Cote Rotie Villa...

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The top cuvée from Delas is the 2015 Hermitage Les Bessards, and it's always 100% Syrah from the steep, broken granite soils of the Bessards lieu-dit. Aged 18 months in 30% new barrels, its purple/plum color is followed by a huge nose of blackcurrants, graphite, toasted spice, crushed rocks and saddle leather. Powerful, massively concentrated, and tannic, it has a broad, expansive, heavenly texture, a thick mid-palate (you could almost use a fork for this beauty), and a great finish. Despite the richness level, it stays balanced ...

80% Syrah, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon Tasting notes from the winery: "Rich, with full ripe black fruit, spice, with smoky meaty elements, it’s a wine that lovers of bold wines will love, while still being classy enough to display exquisite table manners, pairing well with a wide variety of food."

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Coming from the Sonoma side of the Carneros region, the 2015 Syrah Las Madres Ester Block from Mike Smith sports a mostly opaque ruby color as well as terrific notes of red plums, black raspberries, spiced meats and dried violets. A supple, rounded, beautifully textured Syrah that’s already drinking nicely, it has solid mid-palate depth and a good finish. Drink it anytime over the coming 8-10 years. " (07/2017)

94 points James Suckling: "Blackberry and blueberry with rose petal and dark herb aromas. Full-bodied, dense and fruity. Long and intense finish. Drink or hold." (05/2017) K&L Notes: The Bayo Oscuro is a matter of lot selection and blending. All of the Syrah comes from a fairly small geographical area—planted only on the highest slopes, in decomposed granite with northwestern exposures to capture as much sun as possible. Syrah ripens late in our vineyard and we need every advantage in order to get the grapes ripe, particularly in the colder vintages. A...

93 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Syrah Gibson Block is a field blend (it's 90% Syrah) that was all destemmed and brought up in neutral barrels. Blackberries, melted licorice, asphalt, and dry aged beef notes all emerge from this ripe, downright voluptuous beauty. It's a big, sexy beast, but still has class, integrated acidity, and superb purity of fruit. It’s one hell of a drink." (06/2018)

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a great entry-level look at cool climate Syrah. Aromas of seaweed, roasted rosemary and raw lamb flesh are intriguing. The palate is also very gamy, spiced by peppercorns, iodine and dried kelp, finishing on a rosemary lift. *Editors' Choice* (MK)" (09/2019) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Syrah Santa Barbara County gives pretty kirsch, red currant jelly and black raspberry notes with Chinese five spice, Sichuan pepper and forest floor in the undercurrent. Medium-bodie...

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Aged 36 months in new oak, the colossal 2015 Hermitage Ex Voto is up with the finest vintages of this cuvée to date and is certainly in the same ballpark as the 2009 and 2010. This deep, powerful, muscular Hermitage boasts a saturated purple color to go with its huge nose of crème de cassis, freshly crushed rocks, incense, charcoal, and spring flowers. Full-bodied, with good acidity and huge richness and density, it requires 5-7 years of cellaring and should drink well for 40+ years. (JD)" (12/2018) 96 points Robert Parker's Win...

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The finest vintage to date, better even than the stellar 2010, the 2015 Crozes-Hermitage Domaine De Thalabert is a gorgeous, deep, layered, and incredibly satisfying Crozes. Blackcurrants, olive tapenade, truffles and earthy notes all emerge from this full-bodied, gorgeously textured and seamless 2015. With fine tannin and no hard edge, it can be drunk today or cellaring for 15-20 years." (01/2018) 94 points Vinous: "Inky ruby. 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Blended of 90% Syrah and 10% Petite Sirah, the deep purple-black colored 2015 Relentless has a total rock-star nose of flamboyant blackberry pie, plum preserves, mulberries and licorice scents with hints of Sichuan pepper, hoisin, Indian spices and smoked meats plus a waft of raspberry leaves. Very big, rich, full and decadently fruited in the mouth, the palate packs in black fruits and exotic spices layers with a firm, rounded tannin frame and just enough freshness to carry off the long, opulent finish. 97-100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Côte Rôtie La Turque (93% Syrah and 7% Viognier) is straight-up thrilling stuff and offers a massive, full-bodied style that stays seamless, incredibly elegant, and perfectly balanced. It doesn’t have the sheer weight or exotic quality of the La Mouline, yet gives up textbook crème de cassis, crushed rocks, violets, and graphite aromas and flavors. With fine tannins and a stacked mid-palate, it’s going to require 5-7 years of bottle age." (12/2018) 99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Like the La Mouline, the 2...

97 points James Suckling: "The blackberries and cloves are intense on the nose with licorice and hints of eucalyptus, too. Full body, extremely fine tannins and citrus rind undertones. Tight and composed. I love the length. Drink now." (08/2017) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Syrah Suisassi is a very ripe and opulent expression. If Syrah loves the summer heat, it has soaked it all up here. It is almost too much of a good thing, and the subtle nuances are buried deep within the considerable girth and width of the mouthfeel. Black fru...

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Who would've thought that in the context of Barossa Shiraz, the 2015 RunRig would seem like a relative bargain? It's certainly much less expensive than Grange or Hill of Grace will be when they're released. It's also more approachable in its youth, with enormously appealing aromas of grilled fruit, savory complexities and rich, velvety tannins. Of course, it's full-bodied and concentrated, with the stuffing to age for up to a couple of decades, and it has a long, licorice-tinged finish. Winemaker Ian Hongell, who...

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The first vintage for this cuvée and from relatively younger vines planted in 2010, the 2015 Côte Rôtie Côte Blonde is another gorgeous wine from this young superstar winemaker. Offering beautiful notes of black raspberries, black currants, spring flowers, violets, and incense, with more minerality and deep Syrah meatiness with air, this full-bodied, beautifully concentrated, finesse-driven Côte Rôtie has sweet tannin and a layered, seamless texture that just keeps on giving. Due to its purity of fruit and incredible tannin qualit...

Boscoe Wine Co., is owned by John Haskell and his son David Haskell, who take a minimalist approach to winemaking and do nearly all of the work by hand. The 2015 La Fai is from the certified organic Kimsey Vineyard in the Ballard Canyon AVA and was fermented with 11% Viognier, and about a third whole cluster. The wine was aged for nine months in 50% new and one-year barrels, and 50% neutral barrels.
