2010 Islay Strait (Caol Ila) 10 Year Old "Sovereign" K&L Exclusive Single Sherry Butt Finish Cask Strength Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
Anyone who has taken the ferry to the Isle of Islay from Kennacraig to Port Askaig has seen this special distillery from a unique vantage point. As you motor up the Islay Strait to the port the ferry begins a big sweeping turn into the harbor and you get a spectacular view off the starboard side of Caol Ila’s warehouses and massive distillery. It’s a special introduction to the spectacular beauty of Islay. If you were to skip the port and carry on up the strait you would find Bunnahabhain, and so it was a natural choice for the teaspoon of liquid gold we...

92 points James Suckling: "Aromas of currants, plums, and minerals follow through full body, with chewy tannins and a chewy finish. Needs time to soften. Serious depth to this wine. Better in 2015." (02/2013) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Dark ruby/plum colored, with evolved notes of cedar wood, earth and underbrush, this wine possesses the classic tobacco leaf and black currants of a mid-level Medoc. It is medium-bodied, has good ripeness and should age nicely for 15 or more years." (02/2013) K&L Notes: *+V An elegant wine from good terroir. Full-...

2010 Coufran, Haut-Médoc
Top Pick!
87-90 points Vinous: "Deep ruby. Lovely aromas of dark plum, blackcurrant, graphite and black pepper. Then smooth and rich on the palate, with ripe blackberry and chocolate-covered blackcurrant flavors showing very good precision and lift. Finishes with lively acids and a bit of warmth, but this balanced, serious wine will provide delicious early drinking. (IDA)" (05/2011)

Chateau Valentons-Canteloup Bordeaux Superieur is a family-owned property that sits just along the Dordogne river in Bordeaux. It is owned by the Meynard family and Jacques Meynard makes all the wine on the property from white to rosé to red. Jacques also makes a wine under the label of Chateau Valentons-Canteloup that he calls "Cuvée Excentrique", and it is truly eccentric for a Bordeaux Superieur, made from Petit Verdot (70%) and Merlot (30%).

98 points Decanter: "An incredible wine; this just tingles through the palate from beginning to end. Rich body and a silky, polished texture. Clear pencil lead, black olive, cassis, rosemary. Firm tannic hold suggests there are decades ahead, with a fresh uplift to the finish. A classic example of how Pessac-Léognan can deliver perfect tightrope balance in its best wines. Made from 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc with 1% Petit Verdot to complete the blend. (JA)" (10/2019) 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is an ext...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A classic St.-Emilion, the 2010 from Grand-Pontet is dense purple and ripe, with loads of black cherry, plum, fig and vanillin notes. The wine has a full-bodied yet luscious and succulent mid-palate that gives it accessibility now despite some elevated tannins in the long finish. It is well-made and generally one of the better values of St.-Emilion. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2028. (RP)" (02/2013)

94 points James Suckling: "Aromas of blueberries and blackberries with hints of sliced mushroom. Full and round with chewy tannins. Give this four or five years to soften. Tight and structured." (02/2013) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The former home of Alexis Lichine is now owned by a Pacific-based French mining company. The low yields of the 2010 (the vineyard was hit by hail) have produced a smooth and rich style of wine, which is weighty while also showing fine acidity on the finish. This has definite aging potential. (RV)" (02/2013) 92 points Robe...

The original Charles Noellat estate was absorbed by Domaine Leroy in 1988, yet the name lives on as a negociant label sourcing grapes from some of the finest vineyards in Burgundy. Jasper Morris, MW writes: "The Noëllat tribe are abundant in this part of the Côte de Nuits. Two brothers, Charles and Ernest, flourished in the early part of the 20th century. Charles had a son, André, who died in 1941, and whose daughter Odile married Alain Hudelot, to form Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat in Vougeot. Domaine Charles Noëllat no longer exists since its purchase by Lal...

93 points James Suckling: " Wonderful aromas of black truffles and berries with hints of wet earth. Full body, with velvety tannins and a rich and chewy finish. Yet the fruit and acidity balance this muscular wine. Try in 2018. " (02/2013) 93 points Wine Spectator: "There's a nice charcoal note driving this from the start, while the dark plum, blackberry and black currant fruit waits in reserve. Ganache, licorice snap and tobacco fill in the finish and give this added range, while a singed alder wood note runs underneath for added texture and length. I...

James Suckling: "Currants and blueberries with hints of minerals. Medium to full body, with integrated tannins and a pretty finish. Needs two years to soften. " (07/2014) Wine Spectator: "Juicy and well-rendered, with dark currant and steeped cherry fruit laced with smoldering tobacco and grilled savory, revealing a hint of warm stone hanging through the finish. (JM, Web Only-2013)"

2010 Port Charlotte "MRC:01" First Growth Bordeaux Barrel Aged Cask Strength Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
Bottled at cask strength of 59.2% alcohol and distilled from 100% Scottish barley sourced from the Invernesshire region, the vintage heavily-peated malt spirit is aged initially in first fill American whiskey casks and second fill French wine casks. These component parts have been combined and matured for an extra year in the casks sourced from one of the Left Bank's finest properties. The resulting powerhouse is an absolute rocket. The powerfully sweet malt and dense textured peat play wonders against the deep red fruit and spice coming from the top tie...

2010 Glen Garioch 10 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Hogshead Cask Strength Highland Single Malt Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
We’ve bottled several young Glen Garioch casks in the last few years and they’re undoubtedly some of our favorite bang-for-your-buck whiskies. The small Oldmeldrum distillery sits right in the middle of town and quietly makes a small quantity of lovely spirits for those in the know. Long a part of the Morrison Bowmore stable of distilleries, it is today owned by Beam Suntory—famous for letting each of their Scottish properties continue to do what they do best. Back in the day they malted all of their own barley, but today the maltings are getting convert...

98 points James Suckling: "Fresh blueberries and brambleberries take center stage, which is striking for a wine of this age. There are also lots of roasted herbs, such as sage, not to mention floral elements, including lavender and dried violets. Then come cedar, sandalwood and tar. The tannins are incredibly round and soft, without the slightest hint of anything dry. This is among the most elegant of Riojas, where the acidity is wonderfully pronounced and cuts right through any touch of dried fruit. Long and powerful, yet subtle on the finish. Drink now...

2010 Casanova di Neri Tenuta Nuova Brunello di Montalcino (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
100 points James Suckling: "This is a wine with fabulous scale and depth, as well as perfectly polished and refined tannins and wonderful length. Full body, yet so balanced and refined. The combination of focused fruit, tight tannins and bright acidity gives this incredible length. What a wine? A new sensibility to the whole thing. Drink or hold." (06/2018) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is a gorgeous wine. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is just as impressive now as when I first tasted it three years ago. The only edit I ...

The special selection from our friends down at Bar Agricole. The picked this excellent Folle Blanche from a wonderful producer in Les Landes, Domaine du Miquer, run by Jacques Lasserre, a veteran of the business and former itinerant distiller. This man is a master of the still, but he also takes great care in the vineyards, favoring the hard work required to cultivate the wonderful and difficult Folle Blanche varietal. He knows every aspect of production from the vineyard to the bottle, and you can tell it right away when you taste his brandy. They are p...

2010 Roberto Voerzio "Fossati Case Nere 10 Anni" Barolo Riserva
Top Pick!
97 points James Suckling: "The strawberry, light cherry, hazelnut and dust character are thought-provoking in this wine. It’s full-bodied, chewy and polished with a line of tannins that provide a beautiful frame for this wine. Just starting to be agreeable and positive." (04/2020) 95 points Vinous: "Black fruit, smoke, tobacco, licorice and incense all blossom in Roberto Voerzio's 2010 Barolo Riserva 10 Anni Case Nere. Firm tannins provide the backdrop in a Barolo that stands out for its dark, brooding personality. The quality of the tannins is quite s...

2010 Conterno Fantino "Vigna del Gris" Barolo
Back In Stock!
94 points Vinous: "The 2010 Barolo Vigna del Gris is beautiful, layered and expressive. Sweet tobacco, mint, licorice, crushed flowers and plums meld together in a supple, gracious wine for the year. Sweet rose petals and mint add an attractive upper register of trademark aromatics and perfume as the wine opens up in the glass. The 2010 remains dense and compact, but it is impossible to miss that the tannins here are more refined than has typically been the case with the Gris in the past, which is probably the result of vines getting older. The 2010 need...

96 points Wine Spectator: "Beautifully concentrated, with a floral undertone to the rich yet racy wild berry, cassis and damson plum skin fruit character that’s tightly wound around fine tannins. The finish is long and compact, but this needs time in the cellar to fully shine. (NW)" (10/2012) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Montes Alpha M is a typical Medoc blend of a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon with 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% of both Merlot and Petit Verdot from their vineyards in Apalta next to the winery in the Colchagua Valley....

That pure Islay barley flavor--even more so, as it's organically grown! The distillery notes: "The whisky we distill from the organic barley of Mid Coul reflects the complex natural flavours of the landscape. Just as our stillmen refuse to abandon the traditional crafts of distillation in favour of automation or industrialisation, so farmer William Rose rejects the use of herbicides, pesticides and artificial fertilisers. Crop rotation is key. Our barley must take its turn in a seven year farm cycle that also produces organic cattle, sheep, oats, beans,...

96 points Vinous: "Not surprisingly, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard is the least expressive of these wines. At the same time, so much of its appeal is in its tightly-coiled energy and tension. Cherry pit, smoke, blood orange, mint and spice open up with time in the glass, but the 2010 is clearly built for cellaring. The wine's brightness and focus are compelling, but the 2010 needs time. (AG)" (10/2015) 95 points Wine & Spirits: "The remarkable aspect of this wine is its texture and weight, its flavors complete and fully concentrated int...

James Suckling: "Lots of ripe strawberries, with juicy orange and chalky mineral notes. Sweet red fruit on the palate with a juicy acidity and fine ripe tannins. Medium-full body and a pleasant medium-long finish with nice red fruit. Elegant. Second wine of Prieur de Meyney." (10/2011) Wine Spectator: "Offers a solid core of plum, currant paste and steeped cherry notes wrapped tightly with charcoal thread and dark briar patch and tobacco leaf notes. A bit rugged overall, but shows solid range and character. Drink now through 2020. (JM, Web Only-2013)" ...

97 points Vinous: "Good deep, bright red. Sexy red cherry, iron, violet, earth tones, and Asian spices on the captivating nose, with a mineral component building with air. Sweet and plush but with penetrating, harmonious laser-like acidity really lifting and extending the red cherry, sweet spice, and floral flavors. A beauty, finishing long and smooth as silk; so light on its feet it is almost Pinot Noiresque. Made with no oak and no temperature control, left for two months on the skins, and spent 2 months in concrete tanks. This was the first vintage ev...

100 points Wine Enthusiast: "This famed Champagne comes from one of the steepest vineyards in the whole region, facing across the Marne river. With a blend of 71% Pinot Noir and 29% Chardonnay, the densely textured wine shows great richness, a magnificent sense of place and structure. This is a very fine wine, a monument among Champagnes, one that will age for many more years. Drink through 2030. (RV)" (10/2020) 95 points Vinous: "The 2010 Clos des Goisses shows a distinctly tropical, exotic profile that is unusual in Clos des Goisses. Candied orange p...

A particularly rare California sparkling wine produced by Don Baumhefner who had been inspired by late disgorged Bollinger to let his wines rest "en tirage" for years. The San Francisco Chronicle's Esther Mobley fell in love with Baumhefner's 1992 and was excited to report in December 2017 that he had released another wine he discovered in Lake County that had come from a vineyard in Carneros. Mobley writes: "The 2010 Blanc de Blancs smells heady, wafting sweet bread dough. It’s rich, nutty and creamy, and more direct than Baumhefner’s 1990 and 1992 vint...

Quintarelli is among the five most revered estates in Italian wine, and its iconic founder Giuseppe Quintarelli was a living legend during his time at the helm. Once readers have acquired a taste for these heady wines, there is no turning back. It's as simple as that." The Rosso del Bepi is declassified Amarone. 90 points Wine & Spirits: "All about softness and luxury, this is a gentle Cabernet melding red and black currant flavor with luscious dark chocolate tannins. " (10/2013) Wine Enthusiast: "There’s a lot of rich, ripe blackberry, blueberry, black currant and cassis flavor in this Cabernet, but it’s still finding its balance. The fruit is primary in nature with strong tannins and oak that’s not yet integrated... so give it 3-4 years and drink with steak." (10/2013) James Suckling: "A soft, fruity red with currant, light jam and berry character. Full bo...

Enrique Fonseca distilled this expression in early Spring 2010, with three-quarters of the bottling made in a double-copper column still with removed plates to achieve a lower distillation proof and the remaining quarter made in an alembic pot still. Half of the run was then stored in American white oak previously used to age California red wine, and the remaining half barreled in used dark French oak. The casks were then stored for seven years at 3,800 feet elevation in a cool-climate subterranean barrel room.

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Talbot, St-Julien ((92-94JS), 94RP, 93WE, 91ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the best Talbots over recent years, and possibly the best since the 1986 and 1982, this sexy juggernaut of a wine struts forth with an opaque plum/ruby/purple color and terrific notes of creme de cassis, licorice, roasted herbs and smoky barbecue. It is a brilliant effort, with full body, wonderful fruit, a savory, expansive mouthfeel, sensational texture and a long finish, but no hardness or astringency. This is a fabulous Talbot to drink over the next 20-25 years. (RP)" (02/2013)

96 points Vinous: "The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Annata is a real knock-out. Rose petals, mint, sweet spices and flowers are some of the first notes that open up in the glass. Almost indescribably beautiful, the 2010 is a classic, austere Biondi Santi Brunello built to age. Although the 2010 is going to require considerable patience, its pedigree is quite apparent today. The 2010 constantly changes in the glass, revealing different shades of its multi-faceted personality, while the long, saline-infused finish is a thing of real beauty. " (02/2015) 96...

Domaine de la Garnière is a traditional farm located in the vineyards of Nantes. They have been owner-harvesters of Muscadet Sèvre et Maine in the Loire Valley for three generations. 99 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Another massive, incredible release from this estate is the 2010 Léoville Poyferré. Based on 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and the balance Petit Verdot, its inky purple color is followed by a massive, full-bodied, incredibly concentrated 2010 that has awesome notes of pure crème de cassis, licorice, graphite, and spring flowers. As with the 2009, it has incredible depth of fruit, yet a slightly more focused, classic style, which is very much in the style of the 2010 vintage. 99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Inky, bluish/black/purple, with notes of spring flowers, licorice, camphor, graphite, and a boatload of blueberry, black raspberry and blackberry fruit, this is a powerful, full-bodied Troplong Mondot. All the building components of acidity, tannin, wood and alcohol are judiciously and impressively integrated. It is a blend of 90% Merlot and the rest equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc made by Christine Valette and her husband Xavier Pariente with the consultancy help of Michel Rolland. 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Lupicaia is another fruit-forward vintage, showing great intensity and depth. What makes this wine unique is its streamlined and focused nature. Overall, it is a ripe, generous and very intense wine with rich flavors and concentration. The integrated tannins are dusty and fine. It would pair well with rich and gamey meats like liver, innards or venison. (ML)" (05/2019) 95 points Vinous: "What a pleasure it is to taste the 2010 Lupicaia. 96 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby. Deep aromas of red and black fruits, violet, gunflint, licorice and bitter chocolate, complemented by a sexy oak-derived note of hickory smoke. Large-scaled and sweet, but with terrific precision and refinement to the flavors of dark berries, chocolate, licorice and minerals. Finishes polished and long. Not as opulent or exotic as the 2009, but offers exceptional sweetness and size while managing to maintain impressive verve and thrust. A great 2010. (ST)" (07/2013)

It starts off dense, with notes of tar, dried cherry, and plum then adds layers of bright florals and spicy notes. Mineral shadings and smoked meat also appear as distant highlights. The 2010 vintage in particular coats the palate with a firm but subtle grip. The wine already shows great complexity. 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Barolo Ginestra is a territory-driven wine that reflects all of the characteristics associated with the Ginestra cru. It shows elegant mineral and floral aromas backed by an extremely soft and supple tannic quality. This single-vineyard often shows silky tannins that set it apart from much of Monforte d’Alba’s more structured wines. Barolo Ginestra also boasts a deep sense of energy and tension that should hold forth over the course of time. (ML)" (06/2014)
