94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard comes from a mostly southwest-facing vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains (planted to a heritage selection of clones) and was brought up in a mix of new and used French oak. It offers a complex, nuanced style that carries lots of spiced red fruits, forest floor, smoked earth, potpourri, and a touch of sassafras and sagebrush. Complex, medium-bodied, silky, and beautifully balanced on the palate, it checks in behind the 2015 and 2016 but is nevertheless a beautiful, elegant, seamless Pinot Noir t...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Pinot Noir Skyline Vineyard is one of the more exotic wines in the range, bursting with complex aromas of strawberries, plums, potpourri, rich spice and a subtle bass note of grilled meat. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and beautifully complete, simultaneously ample and tense, rich but weightless. This Pinot Noir's silky structure and concentration reflect yields so low that ten vines are typically required to produce one bottle. Four or five years of patience will be required and mor...

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard is another head-turner and offers complex red fruits, white flowers, pepper, and floral notes as well as incredible balance and purity on the palate. About as seamless as they come, it’s medium to full-bodied, has a layered texture, and a great finish. As with most of these 2016s, it has some accessibility today, yet it’s going to age gracefully on its balance and overall harmony." (02/2019) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard is aromatically extravaga...

95 points Vinous: "The 2014 Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard bristles with energy. Rose petal, mint, white pepper and blood orange give the Alpine its super-appealing aromatic upper register, but there is plenty of depth lurking beneath. Here the flavors are bright and nicely focused, while the richness of the vintage is mostly felt in the dense, potent finish. (AG)" (07/2016) 94 points John Gilman: "The 2014 Alpine Vineyard pinot noir from Rhys is another outstanding young bottle of pinot, with its whole clusters showing a bit today, but all of the constitu...

96 points John Gilman: "The 2014 Alpine Hillside bottling of pinot noir from Rhys Vineyards is once again my favorite of this absolutely stellar roster of 2014 pinots from this great Santa Cruz Mountain property. The wine offers up a marvelous nose of black plums, black cherries, espresso, woodsmoke, black minerality, fresh thyme and cedary wood. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and tightly-knit, with a marvelous core, great mineral drive, bright acids and outstanding length and grip on the ripely tannic and laser-like finish. At this...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A wine I think is the best vintage to date, the sensational 2014 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard comes from one of the top sites in all of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Incredibly complex, with layers of sweet black cherries, black raspberries, barnyard, wild herbs and spice, it has medium to full-bodied richness, a pure, impeccably balanced texture and a great finish. Drink this gorgeous Pinot Noir anytime over the coming 10-15 years. (JD)" (10/2016) 95 points Vinous: "The 2014 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard is one o...

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2014 Rhys "Horseshoe Hillside" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (96JG, 96RP, 96VN). Vinous: "The 2014 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard Hillside is all sophistication. Whereas the Alpine is dark and powerful, the Horseshoe offers greater finesse, tension and energy while also conveying plenty of structural intensity and overall richness. The searing tannins need time to soften, but all the elements are in the right place. Graphite, smoke, cured meats and dark spice notes add the closing shades of nuance. (AG)" (08/2017)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2016 Rhys "Horseshoe Hillside" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (99JD, 97RP, 96JG, 96VN, 93BH). Jeb Dunnuck: "One of the highlights in this report is unquestionably the 2016 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard Hillside, which is in the running for one of the greatest Pinot Noirs I’ve ever tasted from California. A thrilling bouquet of blackcurrants, crushed rocks, chocolate, and Asian spices all flow to a rich, powerful wine that doesn’t pull any punches with regard to depth of fruit or structure. While most 2016s have some upfront charm and accessibility, that’s not the case here, and this needs a solid 4-5 years of bottle age. It’s a magical wine, though, and readers should beg, borrow, or steal to get a hold of it." (02/2018)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2012 Rhys "Horseshoe Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (95ST, 94RP, 94VN, 91BH, 90JG). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Ruby-red. Explosively perfumed cherry-cola, dark berry liqueur, incense and mineral aromas show superb clarity and depth, with a sexy floral quality building with air. Offers palate-staining black raspberry and spicecake flavors that become sweeter and deeper with air. This rich but strikingly lithe and tensile pinot deftly plays power and depth off of vivacity and finishes sweet, youthfully tannic and extremely long. One of the most impressive Pinots I've tasted from the New World, or Burgundy for that matter, in quite a while. (ST)" (05/2014)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2013 Rhys "Horseshoe Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (96VN, 95RP, 93BH, 93JG). Vinous: "An absolute triumph from Rhys, the 2013 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard is all about translucence and a total sense of weightlessness. The flavors are lifted and precise throughout in an utterly captivating Pinot that captures the essence of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Hints of rose petal, dark red cherry, anise and licorice grace the haunting, exquisite finish. The Horseshoe is arguably the most refined of these 2013 Pinots from Rhys. (AG)" (07/2015)

Bid on this 6-500 ml-bottle lot of 2014 Rhys "Horseshoe Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (500ml) (95RP, 95VN, 94JG). Vinous: "The 2014 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard is one of the most subtle wines in the lineup. Black cherry, plum, mint, hard candy and sweet spices, along with ripe, silky tannins, give the wine its sense of creaminess and textural finesse. Super-expressive aromatics and layered, plush fruit add to the wine's considerable appeal. (AG)" (07/2016)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2014 Rhys "Alpine Hillside" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (96JG, 95RP, 94VN, 91BH). John Gilman: "The 2014 Alpine Hillside bottling of Pinot Noir from Rhys Vineyards is once again my favorite of this absolutely stellar roster of 2014 Pinots from this great Santa Cruz Mountain property. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and tightly-knit, with a marvelous core, great mineral drive, bright acids and outstanding length and grip on the ripely tannic and laser-like finish. At this point in its evolution, this does not seem quite as magical as the 2013, but this should not take away from the sheer brilliance this wine will deliver when it is fully mature. 96+" (08/2016)

Bid on this 6-500 ml-bottle lot of 2016 Rhys "Horseshoe Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (500ml) (97VN, 96JD, 94JG, 94RP, 93BH). Vinous: "Even better than it was from barrel, the 2016 Pinot Noir Horseshoe Vineyard is a flat-out stunner. Crazy, beautiful, deeply spiced aromatics literally explode from the glass. Broad and ample on the palate, with tremendous intensity, the Horseshoe has a lot to offer. Orange peel, mint and spice overtones add an exotic flair. This is an utterly captivating Pinot Noir from Rhys. (AG)" (08/2018)
