Vinous: "The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles shows just how appealing the vintage is. Aging in steel and bottling early brings out the aromatic, juicy side of Cabernet. The 2016 is not exactly complex, but it is absolutely delicious. It will make a terrific house pour over the next few years. (AG)" (09/2019) K&L Notes: Wine Advocate: "Readers looking for killer values need look no further than this Foxglove releases from Jim and Bob Varner." (JD, 10/2016) Great wines at very good prices. Andrew Jones learned to make wine from the ground up. He started as a vine nursery fieldman, planting and planning vineyards for wineries all over California. This gave him firsthand knowledge of nearly every vineyard on the Central Coast and a knack for finding "diamonds in the rough." Meanwhile, he was building friendships with some great California growers, who'd often offer him small lots of their best grapes on the side. From these beginnings he has built a catalog of delicious, affordable wines that hum with personality.

89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blended barrel sample, the 2018 Patelin de Tablas Blanc is comprised of 48% Grenache Blanc, 22% Viognier, 13% Roussanne, 12% Marsanne and 5% Clairette Blanche. It opens with bruised apple and some wooly funk on the nose, fleshing out to quince, peach, honeycomb and beeswax with oodles of floral and mineral nuance. It's medium-bodied and broad in the mouth with intense, honeyed fruits, just enough freshness and a long, classically bitter finish. (EB)" (09/2019) 91 points Vinous: "Vivid straw-yellow. Fresh, ...

90-92 points Vinous: "Glass-staining ruby. Perfumed aromas of ripe, spice-tinged dark berries and candied flowers pick up an exotic suggestion of apricot as the wine opens up. Silky and energetic in style, offering sappy black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a suave touch of Asian spices. Takes a sweet turn on the gently tannic, persistent finish and leaves a note of candied flowers behind. (JR)" (09/2018) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "There is a great core of black plum and dark berry to the nose of this blend of 48% Syrah, 32% Grenache, 16% Mou...

Wine Enthusiast: "Broad aromas of caramelized red cherry and dried herbs make for a pleasantly savory entry to this bottling from the historic estate. There is a solid amount of herbal expression on the palate, where the dried oregano sets off the tangy black-plum flavors. (MK)" (04/2019)

90 points Wine & Spirits: "This seductive cabernet leads with savory aromas of black olive and pine. It is deep and flavorful, with an Amarone-like richness framed by firm but pliable tannins. It’s a guilty pleasure to pour with steak and chimichurri. " (04/2020) K&L Notes: Cabernet Sauvignon excels at Ancient Peaks' estate Margarita Vineyard, where it achieves both ripeness and balance amid one of the coolest, longest growing seasons in the Paso Robles region. Here, their Cabernet Sauvignon vines are planted to a range of soil types, bringing added na...

Winery notes: The 2017 Merlot opens with dusty aromas of boysenberry, black cherry, vanilla and toasted oak. A soft, rounded texture delivers mouthfilling flavors of blueberry, blackberry, cinnamon, dark chocolate and cola. Velvety tannins are finely integrated into a rich, chewy finish. The wine is aged in a combination of French (60%) and American (40%) oak barrels, 25% of which are new. A small lot of Zinfandel (7%) was incorporated into the final blend to amplify mid-palate fruitiness. Recommended pairings include beef tenderloin, pasta with lamb r...

92 points Vinous: "Pale gold. Fresh pear, melon and Meyer lemon aromas are complemented by a gingery nuance that builds in the glass. Juicy and focused on the palate, showing very good clarity and firm bite to the lively citrus and orchard fruit flavors, which take on a floral element with aeration. The nervy, persistent finish features a repeating floral note and a late, refreshingly bitter jolt of citrus pith. This fruit is fully ripe at 12.5% alcohol, according to Anthony Yount, "so why let it hang and lose freshness?" (JR)" (02/2020)

Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Foxglove Zinfandel (which includes 14% Petite Sirah) has a fruit-forward, ripe, textured style as well as classic notes of plums, leafy herbs, and Asian spices. It's another solid, enjoyable effort from this estate." (10/2019) Vinous: "The 2016 Zinfandel is a fresh, fruity wine to drink now and over the next few years. Juicy black cherry, leather, spice, menthol and cedar add character to this exuberant, racy Zinfandel. This is an especially floral, mid-weight style. (AG)" (09/2019) K&L Notes: At the core of Foxglove is Bob Var...

Wine Enthusiast: "Broad and ripe aromas of Pink Lady apple, ripe pear and tangerine cream lead into a slightly tropical corner of tuberose with a mineral dash of rainy cement on the varied nose of this bottling. It's crisp with those wet concrete flavors on the palate, followed by Key lime peel and honeydew. (MK)" (03/2020) Wine Spectator: "Tangy lemon-lime flavors are accented by lemon verbena notes on the finish, with a touch of grapefruit pith. (MW, Web Only-2020)"

91 points Vinous: "Bright, youthful purple. Ripe black and blue fruits on the perfumed nose, along with suggestions of smoky minerals, cured meat and candied flowers. Chewy, mineral-accented blackberry, boysenberry and fruitcake flavors show sharp delineation and bright, spicy lift. In a concentrated yet lively style, finishing long and appealingly sweet, with repeating smokiness and dusty tannins lending framework and firm grip. (raised in a combination of new and used French and American oak barrels) (JR)" (02/2020)

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "The first vintage of Sauvignon Blanc from this producer is a complex and lively white wine to balance their rich red portfolio. Aromas of jalapeño, green herbs and wet cement meet with nectarine on the nose, while the zesty palate combines bell pepper, lime peel, peach and tropical fruit. *Editors’ Choice* (MK)" (07/2019)

Winemaker's Notes: "In a wine that is almost entirely Paso Robles fruit, the 2016 Grenache scales back the raciness and the overtly "in your face" style that Paso is so known for. While still full bodied, she’s also elegant and feminine - think Scarlett Johannsen at a black-tie affair. Soft red fruit, and delicate rose petals on the nose with a mouthfeel that is silky and round. Fruit from: Derby, Thompson and Kimsey Vineyards. Fermented using native yeast and sans soufre in 1.5 ton fermenters with 18% whole clusters . Aged 22 months on the lees in 6...

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aromas of cedar and leather recall a rustic cabin on the nose of this bottling, which also offers a dried cherry core. The cedar continues to the sip, where roasted red-fruit flavors meet with a touch of pine needle and a slightly resinous texture. (MK)" (06/2020) K&L Notes: About this producer: "Opolo’s estate vineyards were established from 1994-1996, with sites on both the west and east side of Paso Robles. The topographically diverse, coastal landscape of the westside vineyards provides for an intense and unique flavor p...

Winery notes: "Exquisite notes of red plum, blueberry, sandalwood and white pepper wreath a central core of supple silky tannins. Medium bodied. It is well-integrated and elegant with a streak of lively acidity that runs throughout. A classic Paso Robles Zinfandel. Drink now and age up to 5 years."
Price: $24.95

Connoisseurs Guide: "As is the case with its siblings from Opolo, this is a Zinfandel little concerned with subtlety and constraint. It runs straightway to heady, late-harvest ripeness with a sweep of chocolate to its juicy and jammy, berry-like fruit, yet that fruit holds its ground against tannin and heat, and its balancing acidity keeps it away from heavy-footed softness. It is a wine of a style, and not one to pour with milder foods, but those who like their Zins big and ripe will have no complaints. *One Star*" (01/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "This is ...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This entry-level Cabernet Sauvignon is the only Cabernet in the Daou portfolio made entirely of purchased fruit and is intended to be drunk young. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is made up of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc aged 11 months in 60% new French oak. Deep ruby-purple, it opens with pure crème de cassis and meaty touches, slow to unfurl, over pure blackberries, cedar and dried thyme. Medium to full-bodied, it explodes with flavor in the mouth, purely defined but ve...
