Introducing the 62nd release from Dramfool: an impressive 14-year-old Speysider labeled “Glenmarvellous.” Hailing from an undisclosed distillery famous for being one of Speyside’s Finest and loathing to have independent bottles adorned with its name. Distilled in 2008 and bottled at cask strength of 55.6%, this whisky is a powerhouse of flavors thanks to its time in an active first fill bourbon barrel. Bottled and sold for the 2023 Spirit of Speyside Festival we were lucky enough to have Dramfool hold back a few for our thirsty California customers. The ...

2011 Glenglassaugh 11 Year Old "Single Cask #4778" Pedro Ximenez Sherry Butt Highland Single Malt Whisky (700ml) (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
New!
Top Pick!
*Please note this is being sold on a pre-arrival basis. These bottles should arrive by July, 2024* Not all single cask bottlings are created equal. While any distillery putting forth an honest effort will select interesting and hopefuly tasty casks for their single barrel program, it is a rare cask indeed that could be described as "flawless." But this 11 year old is just that - a perfect PX cask. Robust enough to impact an incredibl amount of character, but perfeclty matched to the spirit so as to not overshadow it, but rather to complement it beautiful...

1997 Ardmore 25 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Cask Strength Single Refill Hogshead Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Top Pick!
This unprecedented cask of Ardmore is as unusual as it is delicious. The famous Highland peater was built at Kennethmont, Aberdeenshire in 1898. The spiritual home of the once popular Teacher's Highland Cream, its original owner was in fact the son of the founder of that brand, Adam Teacher. One of the last distillers to use coal to fire their stills, this barrel was distilled prior to their transition to gas in 2001. It boasts the ability to produce nearly 5.5 million liters of pure alcohol a year with 8 working stills. Nearly all of that is made with h...

2007 Clynelish 16 Year Old "Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseur's Choice" K&L Exclusive Cask #311259 Single Refill Sherry Hogshead Nonchillfiltered Cask Strength Highlands Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
The historic Clynelish distillery offers some of the most unusual spirit in Scotland. Distinctly waxy, as many old malts were, it is one of the few distilleries to have maintained this characteristic in the modern era. Long ferments and tons of copper contact lead to a surprisingly fruity flavor profile to accompany that mysterious waxy note. The combination is beguiling and once bitten by the flavors, you’ll join the Cult of Clynelish is a hurry. Pair it with a subtle, yet active refill sherry hogshead as we have here from the legendary Gordon & MacPhai...

Closed in 1983, the once prolific stocks of Carsebridge are running low. At one time the large grain distillery in the town of Alloa was one of Scotland's biggest. When the whiskey industry fell on hard times due to massive oversupply, Carsebridge was an early victim and eventually was completely demolished in 1992. Diageo, the outgrowth of DCL, did retain the cooperage for some years, but even that was closed in 2011. It's not every day that we get to the see the whiskies of yore and have access to them at such reasonable prices. Distilled in 1965, this...

Here we go! After two years of hunting for a replacement to our wildly successful single grain Girvan, we've finally found a cask of grain worthy of our discerning customers. Cambus is among the most difficult-to-find grain distilleries, for a couple of reasons: it's been closed since 1993, and it's rumored to be at the heart of the Johnnie Walker Blue bottlings. No surprise that it's difficult to find--if Diageo is relying on this whisky to produce one of its most sought-after blends, it will certainly be controlling as much stock as possible. Occasiona...

While it closed only a year after the whisky in this bottle was distilled, just because the former Carsebridge distillery is gone forever doesn't mean we can't enjoy its splendor still today! Luckily for us there are still a number of delicious and mature expressions available on the independent market and this is one of them. If there's one thing we can help take credit for here at K&L, it's been helping to remove the undeserved stigma associated with grain whisky in the Scotch industry. This 33 year old edition distilled in 1982 should please both fans...

Littlemill offers a chance to taste history in more ways than one. Once famous for its beautiful and elegant triple-distilled malt, the distillery had been closed since the early '90s, and it tragically will never be reopened, as it burned to the ground in 2004. While extinct distilleries carry a lot of cache, Littlemill has never quite had the same pull or commanded the same prices as names like Brora and Port Ellen. Until recently that is. The original Littlemill stills and the remainder of Littlemill's whisky has settled into the Loch Lomond ownershi...

2005 Ledaig 17 Year Old "Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseur's Choice" K&L Exclusive Cask #18600201 2nd Fill Sherry Hogshead Nonchillfiltered Cask Strength Highlands Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
Ledaig Single Malt is a cherished gem from the Hebridean Isles and comes from one of the oldest distilleries in all of Scotland. Produced on again, off again since its founding in 1798, and licensed since 1823, the Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull is known primarily for its two single malt marks. Tobermory, an unpeated dram and Ledaig, with its heavily peated characteristics. Both are widely regarded as malts of outstanding quality. Both malts owe their rich character to the unusual stills that lie at the heart of the distillery - bulbous stills ...

The next time we head over to Scotland for a business trip, we could easily spend the entire week at Glenfarclas. There are multiple warehouses with an endless amount of barrels, making our discovery of fantastic whisky almost the equivalent of finding a needle in a haystack. One of the oldest distillerlies in all of Scotland, Glenfarclas is perhaps the most legendary Highland producer. In 1865, the Grants purchased the company and since then has passed it down to successive generations. Today, George Grant still proudly runs the show, making Glenfarclas ...

Suntory "100th Anniversary - Hakushu" 12 Year Old Japanese Single Malt Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
While the Hakushu distillery came a bit later than Yamazaki, The House of Suntory is celebrating its centennial with these limited edition special releases from their two single malt distilleries. Both Yamazaki and Hakushu have 100th Anniversary offerings, featuring an understated label and supremely delicious 12-year-old whiskies from their respective distilleries. The unique Japanese style utilizes a wide array of barrel types, peat levels, and still shapes and sizes to produce many different malts at each distillery. The blend of all of these makes fo...

Tobermory is kind of hot right now. While this distillery is often listed as a highlander, it is actually from the majestic and mystical Isle of Mull. There the picturesque hamlet of Tobermory, contains one of the Scotland's most underappreciated malt producers. Their current flagship 15 year old is now on the market for a staggering $150 a bottle and while it's a fine malt, we've always found it to be slightly over priced. Now this wonderful 18 year old expression from a refill sherry butt, makes a mature version of this fun distillery available to all....

91 points Whisky Advocate: "Coconut macaroon, baked sweet pastries, peach purée, sanded oak, Starburst chews, pear, caramel shortbread, strands of orange zest, and crushed allspice and coriander seeds. Far from timorous, this grown-up Highlander has the heart of a lion, with flavors of cooked apple, dark molasses, vanilla pod, lots of oak tannin, pepper, and coriander seed, with a finish of dark sugars and peppery heat. Quite an animal. (JM, Spring-2019)" (03/2019) K&L Notes: This unprecedented value will NOT be around forever. This is in every sense o...

This mysterious cask of Bruichladdich was originally sold to us as a 1995 vintage. We were ecstatic to find our old favorite from this time period considering how few barrels remain. The distillery sells similar vintages, albeit often finished in various wine casks, without issue for 2-3 times this price, but getting naked Bruichladdich from this era is essentially impossible. When the bottles showed up, it turned out that this whisky was ACTUALLY distilled in June of 1991 and bottled four years ago in May of 2018, just before its 27th birthday. We'll ne...

This single cask of barrel strength Macallan 23 represents our biggest coup yet in the post-Brexit Scotch era. We're living in whisky world where Macallan 25 now costs $1700 per bottle. If the distillery even offered a cask strength edition of that expression it would easily be over $2000. Yet somehow, someway, we've managed to secure a single barrel of 23 year old Macallan at full proof for a shocking $499. One of the main differences you'll find in the Old Particular offering is the lack of sherry influence, which would normally be the calling card of ...

We've always loved Glenfarclas. As you may or may not know, this distillery is one of the last independently owned in all of Scotland. It's owned by the Grant family. It also happens to be on most knowledgeable people's list of top distilleries and has consistently provided us with excellent sherried Speyside offerings at incredible prices. We've had success finding single casks in their vast warehouse system, but found that current market conditions have made purchasing a single cask from the Grants rather cost-prohibitive. Negotiating the price down on...

Located in an isolated portion of the Aberdeenshire, amid rolling green hills and sinister shadows, GlenDronach is churning out sherry-aged single malt that simply destroys many of its competitors. This 19-year-old selection smells of Armagnac and rich caramel, with roasted fruits and big sherry aromas. The palate is soft, integrated and very smooth, even at full proof. The richness is powerful, but unlike some of their older selections, it is completely in check and balanced by the spice and alcohol in the malt. This is a bigger, more expressive version...

Whisky Advocate: "Although only two years older, this expression of Hakushu — the first to be launched in the U.S. — shows a fleshier side to the distillery’s wares. While it has retained the freshness of the 10 year old, it shows more pineapple and grapefruit on the nose, with a little fragrance of jasmine and osmanthus. On the palate, it’s fresh and lively with a hint of persimmon and a tickle of smoke. Recommended. (DB, Spring 2012)" K&L Notes: Suntory's Hakushu, known as the "forest distillery," was built in 1973 as a sister distillery to Suntory's ...

(THESE ARE THE OLD STYLE WIDE DECANTER BOTTLES WITH BLACK TINS) We love Laphroaig. Everybody loves Laphroaig (if they don't hate it). Not a lot of people on the fence regarding Laphroaig. That's why it's really hard to get. It's really expensive as well; this is both cause and effect. We've seen prices go up, while quality has remained consistent. Now we have another cask of Laphroaig and it's difficult not to oversell it. If we're always so effusive about every whisky we taste, people start to question our judgment. So, I'm just going to say that this i...

Bruichladdich 18 Year Old Unpeated Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (blue wrap) (750ml)
Top Pick!
We've waited almost 2 decades for this expression from the special distillery on Lochindaal. The beautiful Classic Laddie is all grown up now and their core range officiall expended. In conjunction with the release of a new sexy bottle shape, the famed "unpeated" Islay distillery is offering this exceptional, authentic expression of its most mature modern stock at an altogether reasonable price. Designed to capture the house style in its purest form, the 18 year is almost entirely made up of first fill ex-bourbon with just a handful of specially selected...

The Big Peat Vintage Series is an unusual vintage expression of blended malt whiskies from the famous Isle of Islay. Utilizing the deepest stocks of this famous bottler, they've put together an unbelievable blend of old peated whiskies. This is the second release in their Vintage Series, and represents an exceptional, value considering the cost of old Islay whiskies (even before we acquired the country's remaining stock at an enormous price advantage). We were more than happy to sell this exceptional whisky when it was $250+, but for less than half the p...

2011 Highland Park 10 Year Old "K&L Exclusive" Cask #5434 First Fill European Oak Sherry Butt Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
It has been quite some time since we've had an official Highland Park Single Cask straight from the distillery and we are thrilled to offer this at the sharpest pricing we've seen in the program in years. This epic first fill full sized European oak sherry butt delivers a massive Orkeny experience at a whopping 66.1% ABV. The jewel of the Orkney Islands is famous for its heather peat offering a gentle floral toned smoke and its impeccable use of sherry maturation, both are on full display here.

We had an exceptional cask of Springbank last year that sold out after almost no effort on our part. We only received 78 bottles from that cask because it had supposedly been split with another market. As it turns out, we might have found the rest of that cask. The supplier is unable to confirm if this is the rest of the cask that we didn't get last year or if in fact it is a sister cask. Again we've only been allocated a tiny amount (108 bottles) and the proof is slightly lower by one tenth of one percent. If it is indeed the same juice, it certainly is...

One of our good-natured business deals from Scotland ended up providing us with the chance to secure a single barrel of something quite special and unbelievably rare - an unpeated Islay whisky aged inside the cask of another peated Islay whisky! This 16 year old Bruichladdich spent its first 13 years in hogshead, lending it the standard vanilla and sweet grains the malt is known for. For the last 3 years however it sat soaking up the flavor from a barrel which had formerly held some super-smoky Ardbeg whisky. The residue left inside the wood was enoug...

2010 Williamson (Laphroaig) 12 Year Old "Redacted Bros." (Thompson/Dornoch) Single Refill Sherry Butt Islay Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Top Pick!
This exceptional single cask was sold to this bottler as the "Williamson" blended malt and therefore cannot include the source on the label. But we have no problem telling you that this excellent whisky was distilled on the famous little stills located just outside the little seaside town of Port Ellen. Adorned in the throwback label, the Thompson Brothers, are clearly giving the old nudge nudge wink wink to the famous old bottling from nearly a century ago, with block letters and cursive writing. Filled into a used sherry butt in 2010, this excellent ca...

The exceptional Blair Athol Distillery sits just outside the picturesque town of Pitlochry at the base of the great Cairngorm Mountains. This small stone distillery has provided K&L with several of our most renowned single barrels, namely a few old refill casks from Signatory, which were dark refill sherry butts. This barrel showing up just a few years after those exquisite examples of this low key distillery further proves that sherry and Blair Athol play in perfect harmony. Famous in the U.K. as the home of well regarded Bell's Blend, it has no real no...

2006 Ardbeg 17 Year Old "Dramfool - Red Bag" Bourbon Hogshead Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Top Pick!
Islay's easiest anagram. This beautiful cask was distilled March 9, 2006 and bottled April 24, 2023 at 17 years old. It's old school South Shore goodness from one of the world's most sought after distilleries. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 57.2% ABV without color or chill filtration. This cask stands out for its harmony and balance, aged in an ex-bourbon hogshead it is all about the balance between malt and wood, sea and smoke, aged to perfection.

The gorgeous Benriach distillery is one of Speyside's most unique. The distillery, built in 1898, was promptly purchased and shuttered by nearby Longmorn Distillers and remained silent for many decades. It was purchased in 1965 by the Glenlivet Co. and refurbished before being sold to Seagram's in the late '70s. It was always a hub of experimentation and remains filled with crazy expressions and unusual cask fills, with both peated and floor malted versions. It's rather rare to see independently bottled Benriach, but it seems Alistair Hart's relationship...

The old distillery just to the north of Port Askaig was founded in 1881. It's become one of the best loved Islay malts, despite its normally gentle character. We've had several lovely casks of naked Bunnah over the last few years, but this one truly stands out. The great northern Islay distiller is renowned for capturing that ocean character without relying on heavy peat smoke. In fact, the distillery makes sure to note that their whisky contain less than 2 ppm of phenol, making it one of two regularly produced unpeated Islay malts, but this little whisk...

The strikingly underappreciated Miltonduff distillery is unique in so many ways. Built on the site of an old mill for the Pluscarden Abbey, the distillery's old stone buildings hide one of Speyside's most delicious malts. Originally a Priory founded by King Alexander II in 1230, the area became renowned for illicit distillation. Originally licensed in 1824, the name "Milton" was taken from a still that operated on the property. The Duff family owned the lands surrounding the abbey, hence the name Miltonduff. The malt became an important component of the...

The Mortlach distillery is one of Scotland's very best. Located in the heart of Speyside, this special distillery is very rarely found as a single malt. The little valley at the southern edge of Dufftown has been the location of a licensed distillery since 1823, but was most likely the site of illicit distillation long before that. It was Dufftown's first legal distillery after excise reform and would anchor the town as one of Scotland's most important distilling communities. The spirit was prized from the very beginning and was purchased by John Walker ...

There's no question that Springbank is my favorite distillery. There are so many reason's why I love Springbank, but the most important one is the most obvious - it tastes amazing. Now qualify that with the fact that the Springbank distillery is literally the only distillery making authentic single malt the way they would have 100 years ago. Modern Scotch distillers want you to believe that the changes they've made over the last 50 years are designed to make their distilleries better, which is 100% true if you own the distillery. But goals of efficiency ...

We almost never see Mortlach available for sale by the cask in Scotland. If we do it's almost certainly in a third or fourth fill barrel and almost certainly young and expensive. Even the underwhelming NAS bottling from the distillery still costs $100. Why is it so expensive and hard to get? That answer starts with a J and ends with a Walker. There's just too much money in that special blend to let these casks out of the system. When they do make it out, there's usually a reason. On the rarest of occasions, likely the result some fortuitous clerical erro...

Bowmore offers one of the most unusual dichotomies in Scotland. They make some of the finest whisky available, they floor malt roughly a quarter of their barley in-house, they have vast stocks of exceptional whisky, yet the core expressions from the distillery always seem a touch lack luster. They're filtered and proofed way back, sure, but the raw materials are so good that you wouldn't expect it present so glaringly. This is where the independent cask market thrives. The freedom to bottle at full proof and without filtration or additives allows for the...

The exceptional Hart Bros. bottler is led by Alistair Hart, who has nearly 30 years of experience selecting single casks and managing the stocks for this excellent little bottler. Hart Bros. consistently bottles malts of exceptional quality and seems to have connections that few else can match. After our first effort importing casks directly from their bottled stock, we've stepped up to purchase exceptional whiskies straight out of their warehouses, which will be sold exclusively at K&L. This gorgeous barrel of nicely aged Glendronach represents a first ...

The third release of the renowned heavily peated offering from Bruichladdich. This massive whisky is shows incredible depth for its age. Like all the cask strength Port Charlotte offerings, it is one of only 24000 long gone bottles and not readily available. Here are Serge Valentine's thorough tasting notes: "Greatest of news, PC7 is ‘more traditionnal’, that is to say partly bourbon and partly sherry matured. Colour: gold. Nose: much more spirity than the Laddie of course, thanks to the very high alcohol. We do get coffee (as often in high-strength whis...

Your eyes do not deceive you! We have indeed secured a single sherry cask from the most sought-after, most desired, and most elusive of single malt distilleries - Brora. Considered the Holy Grail of single malt whiskies, Brora was the original Clynelish distillery before a new facility was built next door. Because there cannot be two distilleries with the same name, the new building was dubbed Clynelish while the old distillery was changed to Brora. Closed in 1983 after Diageo decided to keep only one of the operations running, Brora stocks have dwin...

Introducing our newest source for top-quality whisky at wonderfully reasonable price points - the Exclusive Malts! Our partnership with this independent bottler will bring EM expressions for the first time ever to the United States, available only at K&L. Seeing that last year's trip resulted in almost zero Islay expressions, David and I were eager to make amends this time around. We had already committed to peated whiskies from Kilchoman, Bruichladdich, Laphroaig, and Caol Ila, so when we found a relatively mellow, laid-back, mature malt from Bunnahabha...

Closed forever in 1988, Caledonian was a Lowland grain distillery that was once famed for having Europe's biggest patent still. The nose is salted caramel and sticky Sauternes, with rich and enticing aromas of sweet goodness. The palate, however, is grain all the way--lean and herbal, odd and exciting, crazy cool and super fun--a difficult malt to truly explain. It almost tastes peated! Knowing this was going to be for the true whisky nerds out there, we originally decided to pass on this cask even though we loved it. However, when the owners let us dea...
