This full-bodied classic boasts a dense purple color as well as a superb nose of graphite, creme de cassis, forest floor, licorice and a hint of truffles, low acidity, and extravagant richness. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The spectacular 2003 Leoville Poyferre exhibits a dense purple color with a touch of lightening at the edge as well as notes of creosote, barbecue smoke, jammy black currants, licorice and spice box. This intense, voluptuously textured, full-bodied St.-Julien possesses low acidity and ripe tannin. Still fresh and exuberant, it is just entering its plateau of full maturity where it should remain for 10-15+ years. (RP)" (08/2014)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003 Domaine Vincent Dauvissat Chablis Grand Cru "Les Clos" (93VN, 91BH). Vinous: "Bright yellow. Aromas of pineapple, rosemary and nutmeg, with some fresh veggie nuances. Large-scaled, plush and densely packed; a very concentrated, tactile, bone-dry wine with terrific breadth and seamless texture, but much more about powdered and wet-stone minerality than fruit in the mouth. Finishes saline and bone-dry. I would have guessed this wine was higher in alcohol but it's not at all tired, despite possessing barely three grams per liter of acidity. No one will ever describe this powerful wine as classic Clos and yet there's plenty of minerality here. (ST)" (11/2019)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 vintage was the first vintage ever where they started harvest in August, and this sweltering hot year yielded erratic, yet sometimes brilliant wines. The 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape is a full-on success and has lots of sweet kirsch, roasted herbs, licorice and Provencal garrigue as well as full-bodied richness, impressive concentration, and sweet tannin (tannin ripeness was the true difficulty in the vintage). Bid on this bottle of 2003 Latour, Pauillac (100JS, 100RP, (96-98WE), 98WS, 97ST, 97VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "2003 was one of the hottest, earliest Bordeaux vintages ever. Some vines suffered from lack of moisture, but old vines and clay subsoil at Enclos saw this vineyard through. The Merlot harvest occurred between September 8 and 13, and the Cabernet Sauvignon was picked between September 22 and 30. The 2003 Latour is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. Six percent of the press wine was added to the final blend. It has a medium to deep garnet-purple color, then wow—it explodes from the glass with bombastic black and blue fruits, followed up by meat, wood smoke, sandalwood and Indian spice accents with underlying floral wafts. The palate is full, rich, velvety, seductive and very long on the finish. There were only 10,800 cases made (rather than the normal 15,000-20,000). (LPB)" (02/2019)

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Only a touch of wood frames the ripe but elegant cherry and raspberry fruit aromas that lead to opulent, fresh and very rich flavors offer good length and fine balance. There is a sappy sweetness and more than admirable density here and this is most seductive as well as impressive. (AM)" (01/2006)
