Explosive ripe aromas of redcurrant, minerals, chocolate mint and tomato. Large-scaled, voluptuous and sweet, with very intense berry and chocolate flavors lifted by minerals, menthol and spices. Finishes with wonderfully broad tannins and an extremely long finish that leaves the palate vibrating. From a very cold terroir (the soil is clay over rocky limestone) that takes longer to warm up each day, but in 2005 this vineyard obviously reached near-perfect ripeness. Offers an exciting combination of thickness and depth with lift." (06/2008)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This 100% Merlot cuvee from the Decoster family is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Sadly, the tiny production in 2011 was only 150 cases. If the 2011 has turned out this well, one wonders what the Decosters might have achieved in a great vintage. Beautiful notes of smoky barbecue intermixed with espresso roast, chocolate, ripe black cherries and mocha emerge from this complex, sexy, full-throttle St.-Emilion. The vintage characteristic provides a precocious style, and the Merlot gives the wine beautiful ripeness and headiness. It is a big wine, but is also incredibly well-balanced and fresh. Drink it over the next decade." (04/2014)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Purple to the rim, the 2005 Faugères is a powerhouse at 14.5% alcohol, with notes of graphite, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, licorice and truffle. Some incense also makes an appearance in this full-bodied, super-concentrated, modern-styled St.-Emilion. If I hadn’t known, I would have guessed was the luxury cuvée Péby and not the basic Faugères! Wine & Spirits: "A conspicuously modern wine, Pavie with its hyper-ripe fruit and substantial new oak treatment stands out as an offense to some, a glorious pleasure to others. In the case of the 2004, it carries the oak beautifully, untamed by it. The wine is wild, in fact, and quite hard to resist. The cool complexity of the tannins grows out of three terroirs: the limestone plateau, a sector of gravel and limestone and a third sector of clay. The fruit opens with thick-skinned black plum power, reverberating with feral scents and violets. Staunch and formidable, the wine is packed with life." (10/2007)
