94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Marienburg GG Falkenlay is rich and intense yet fine and very elegant on the delicate and subtle nose that is reminiscent of bacon-wrapped figs and concentrated, super ripe, if not overripe Riesling berries. Full-bodied and rich on the palate, this is a powerful yet elegant and even refined Falkenlay with a quite baroque expression this year. (SR)" (10/2020) K&L Notes: 93+ points Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 35 20. The 2019er Marienburg Falkenlay GG, as it is referred to on the main part of the label, was fe...

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From six-year-old vines, the 2019 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese ** is very intense yet feminine and charming on the nose, like a naked Rubens woman in oil on canvas. The wine reveals perfect botrytis or overripeness that doesn't take anything away from the precision and finesse. It is round, gorgeously lush and voluptuous on the palate yet with crystalline, highly refined acidity and structure. This is a spectacularly intense, warm and ripe Auslese that is opulent yet lean, racy and piquant, finishing with ...

Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Gin (1L)
Top Pick!
The story of Monkey 47 gin is romantic: in 1951, a British man named Montgomery Collins moved to Germany's Black Forest and opened a guesthouse named "Zum wilden Affen"--the wild monkey. While he was an enthusiastic gin drinker, Collins' talent for creating the spirit was lost to history until renovation work at the country guesthouse led to the discovery of a weighty old wooden box containing a bottle and a letter. The dusty bottle had been labeled and decorated by hand, showing a sketch of a monkey and the words "Max the Monkey--Schwarzwald Dry Gin." T...

95 points James Suckling: "A really beautiful, concentrated Auslese that combines a lot of citrus character with complex, spicy notes. The long finish is super fresh and very mineral. Drink or hold." (08/2020) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Auslese is clear and bright on the still-closed nose yet less complex compared to the Sonnenuhr (probably due to the recent bottling). The wine is clear and fresh, shows caramelized apple flavors, finely classy acidity and a a crystalline, elegant finish yet seems to b...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled in early July this year, the 2019 Goldtröpfchen Auslese is very clear, precise and elegant on the bright and flinty nose. Intense and concentrated on the palate, this is a sweet, piquant and structured Auslese with grip, yet it is far from being ready to be served or even detected in its real character. Lean and straight, with 10% to 15% botrytis, this was a gold capsule candidate. Tasted at the domain in September 2020. 2019 is a classic, very aromatic vintage with sponti notes and dry Rieslings that ar...

95 points John Gilman: "It is so nice to see two different wines from the Schaefer family’s small holdings in Wehlener Sonnenuhr this year. The 2019 Spätlese offers up a beautiful aromatic constellation of pear, orange, vanilla bean, fruit blossoms, slate and a topnote of bee pollen. On the palate the wine is fullish, complex, vibrant and seamlessly balanced, with a lovely core, fine slate undertow, a lovely girdle of acidity and excellent focus and grip on the very long, very pure and dancing finish. One can taste the Indian Summer in this wine. Another...

96 points James Suckling: "You would be well advised to cancel anything else you were planning to do today, because this is brimming with pineapple and papaya aromas that will suck you into the concentrated and graceful palate. I love the dangerously refreshing finish that's also very silky. " (08/2020) 96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Streaks of white grapefruit and struck slate collide on the nose of this blindingly pure-fruited spätlese. Light on its feet yet powerfully concentrated with lime, apricot and honeydew flavors, it’s an electric sip that can’t...

96 points James Suckling: "There’s unrelenting mineral drive to this wildly impressive riesling, which brims with smoke, cloves, lemons, limes and crushed chalk. Unforgiving acidity here, yet this remains rich and multifariously flavorful, offering a kaleidoscope of sweetness, energy, savoriness and minerality, all molded into one majestic sculpture. Drink now or hold." (10/2019) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Dhroner Hofberg Riesling Auslese was picked at 97° and 98° Oechsle between middle and late October and then fermented in sta...

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Riesling trocken Rothenberg GG is quite intense and aromatic right now, still yeasty. Round and a creamy on the palate, this is a rich and concentrated yet pure, lush and tensioned, very long and salty Rothenberg with fine tannins and great aging potential. An enormous wine for Gunderloch, yet I'd keep it for at least 6-10 years before I slowly start to drink it. This is the Gunderloch wine to buy! Tasted at the domain in August 2020. (SR) 96+" (04/2021) 92 points James Suckling: "Quite smoky and leesy...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a cooler side valley of the cru, the 2019 Riesling trocken Pettenthal GG is pure and flinty on the nose as well as displaying coolish terroir aromas. Lean and rich at the same time, this is a coolish, pure and silky-textured, salty Riesling with enormous grip yet also tannins. The finish is slightly austere. This is still a baby, and I am curious where the wine is going to. Will it reman austere or gain some texture? Tasted at the domain in August 2020. (SR) 93+" (04/2021) 92 points James Suckling: "The ar...

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese Mosel (94JG). John Gilman: "The 2001 Spätlese AP #25 from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr is a bit young by my rule of thumb of twenty years for this vineyard site, but the wine is starting to drink awfully well at age fourteen. The beautiful and vibrant nose jumps from the glass in a blaze of pear, vanilla bean, bee pollen, a lovely base of slate, blossoming notes of tangerine, fresh almond, white lilies and a nice touch of currant leaf in the upper register. On the palate the wine is medium-full, pure and intensely flavored, with a lovely core of fruit, excellent acidity, superb filigree and a very long, complex and dancing finish. This wine is just on the cusp of its plateau of peak maturity, but will be here for another quarter of a century, so there is no reason to hurry to drink this wine any time soon!" (05/2014)
