Cabernet Franc from Italy? Why, yes! The Blason Cabernet Franc comes from pebbly limestone which is rich in iron oxides. This helps to create the intriguing and elegant fragrance of freshly cut grass, bell pepper, ripe raspberry, green pepper spice and liquorice. This wine is delightful and delicious.

Loire Valley rising star Jacky Blot of Domaine de la Taille Aux Loups and Domaine de la Butte started his career as a wine broker and now is responsible for putting Montlouis-sur-Loire on the quality map. Over the years he's put together 12 hectares of ancient vineyards in Montlouis, Vouvray and Bourqueil, acquired from families who could no longer care for them. This is 100% Cabernet Franc from 50 year old vines fermented and aged in a mix of cement and older oak.

2016 Bodegas Aleanna "Gran Enemigo" Cabernet Franc Gualtallary Argentina
Back In Stock!
99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The nose of the 2016 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard transported me back to the classical wines from the Bordeaux of yesteryear, with austerity and with no room for sweetness or creamy texture. This is about chalk and umami, salty and tasty, with the clout and wilderness of Gualtallary; its electric freshness and fine tannins; the expression of Cabernet Franc (with some Merlot) in the poor, stony and limestone-rich soils from the high-altitude vineyards; and the intensity this altitude provides, as there...

When Jean Noel Millon took over winemaking and farming at his family's estate in 1998, he represented the seventh generation to do so. The 10-hectare farm is certified organic and Millon complements the soil with herbal teas and homemade composts to strengthen the vines' natural defenses. Winery tasting notes: "It is the emblematic wine of the estate with its aromatic expression of red fruit. The palate is crunchy and juicy with ripe, fresh fruit which gives it good drinkability." *organic*

2016 de Pitray, Castillon
New!
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "A concentrated wine from the Pitray family, who fought in the American Revolution, this has bold tannins and the potential for rich fruit. A powerful wine, it shows plenty of spice as well as ripe black-currant flavors and acidity. (RV)" (02/2019) 90 points James Suckling: "A juicy, flavorful red that is delicious now, offering plum, chocolate and berry aromas and flavors. Medium body, firm tannins and a savory finish. Nice acidity, too. " (01/2021) 88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Chateau de Pitray is...

Joël Taluau is a fabulous grower in St-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire. All his hand-harvested cuvées are based on vine age and soil composition, and the wines are fermented and aged in stainless steel with a light fining and no filtration before bottling. The Vieilles Vignes, from a single plot planted in 1934, has power, depth and grace; this, their flagship wine, will improve for the next 7-9 years but can be enjoyed now for those of you who like a mouthful of wine.

90 points Vinous: "Le Temps des Cerises (or "Cherry Time!" as Jérôme jokes) is Domaine de la Noblaie’s everyday Chinon and represents half of their Cabernet Franc production. Bright ruby. Classic fresh and savory Chinon nose, delivering lots of black pepper, tomato and olive. On the palate, thought, it’s plush and fruity, with fleshy plum and ripe cherry, balanced by chalk and more black pepper. Aged five months in stainless steel. (JR)" (07/2020) K&L Notes: 92-94 Chris Kissack, Winedoctor.com: "Jérôme’s entry-level red cuvée comes from the majority o...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "South of the Loire-side city of Saumur, this estate has produced a ripe, spicy wine with a light texture over smoky flavors and generous red fruits. The wine still vibrates with young fruit, so let it settle and drink from 2022. (RV)" (06/2021) K&L Notes: Domaine de l'Enchantoir is run by the Brunet family in the new sub-appellation of Saumur-Puy-Notre-Dame. Distinguished from the rest of Saumur, Puy-Notre-Dame plantings sit between 50-150 meters, relatively high by Loire standards. The winery has been certified organic sinc...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "It would be easy to mistake this herbally complex, texturally taut and tantalizingly fresh Cabernet Franc for a Loire Valley bottling, which is the inspiration. Aromas of just-ripe boysenberry, green tobacco and wet rocks lead into a tightly woven palate full of crunchy cranberry, chaparral shrubs and lingering carnation. Beware: bottle empties easily. *Editors’ Choice* (MK)" (02/2021)

91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Lots of beautiful red and blue fruits, tobacco, bouquet garni, and violet notes emerge from the 2018 Anjou Reliefs. Medium-bodied, it has a lively, elegant texture, nicely integrated acidity, and a great finish. This cuvée is largely Cabernet Franc yet includes 10% Grolleau, from gravelly, schist soils, brought up mostly (all?) in tank. It's a beautiful, elegant wine that's a joy to drink." (03/2021) K&L Notes: Classic Anjou rouge composed of Cabernet Franc with a little Grolleau added for effect!

93 points James Suckling: "This is such a delicious cabernet franc with blackberry and floral notes on the nose and palate, which draw you in and invite you to drink. Medium body. Round, creamy tannins and a delicious finish. The use of whole berries really makes this. Drink or hold" (02/2020) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The expressive and elegant 2017 El Enemigo Cabernet Franc has some 8% Malbec in the blend. It's a subtle red with nuance and detail, very harmonious, aromatic, even floral within the spicy character of the variety. The pa...

2012 Bodegas Aleanna Cabernet Franc "El Enemigo" Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Argentina
New!
98 points James Suckling: "Incredible depth of aromas of black mushrooms, wet earth, and dark fruits. Full body, super silky tannins and a refined finish. It lasts for minutes on the palate. A thought-provoking wine that makes you think. Glorious. Drink now or hold for ages. (JS)" (05/2016) 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The nose of the 2012 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard almost made me fall from my chair. It is the expression of elegance and austerity coupled with strong minerality. It is mostly Cabernet Franc from a very chalky v...

92 points Vinous: "A rush of sweet red cherry, pomegranate, blood orange, dark spice and graphite race across the palate in Lieu Dit's 2018 Cabernet Franc Sans Soufre. The 2018 exudes striking purity in its flavors, with a good bit of aromatic intensity from the 33% whole clusters. This is such a beautiful and expressive wine today, even though it was just bottled. 94 points Wine & Spirits: "The Lamberts gained biodynamic certification for their 45-acre domaine in 2012. They assemble this blend from the fruit of young vines planted in perruches soil (flinty clay). There’s an undeniable energy to this wine, erupting from the glass with an earthy funk, a spiced twang sending its bell pepper and blueberry fruit into a wild direction. A savory beauty, air reveals red berries, ripe plum and scents of bitters, the wine holding its shape for five days-plenty of time to enjoy with beef bourguignon. " (04/2021)

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Lots of blackcurrants, espresso, chocolate, tobacco, and classic Saint-Emilion minerality emerge from the 2018 Clos Saint-Julien, a rich, full-bodied, beauty with incredible character and depth. Flawlessly balanced, with brilliant tannins and a pure, seamless yet powerful style, it's a magical 2018 that will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and cruise for 15-20 years in cold cellars. It's a true 'wow' wine in the vintage." (03/2021) 95 points Vinous: "The 2018 Clos Saint-Julien is much more understated from bottle than it wa...

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made of 100% Cabernet Franc from Beckstoffer's To Kalon vineyard, the very deep purple-black colored 2016 Cabernet Franc Force de la Nature is a little closed to begin, emitting slowly releasing scents of rose hips, oolong tea, dried roses, red loam and pencil shavings over notions of kirsch, redcurrant jelly, crushed black berries and black raspberries plus a waft of chocolate box. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is wonderfully elegant, giving beautifully fine-grained tannins and just enough freshness to lift...

Chateau de Miniere is making some outstanding Cabernet Franc in the Loire Valley but one of their truly standout wines is this sparkling red. A fulll skin contact red with bubbles in it. Baudry's Les Granges may be his workhorse Chinon but it always lands as one of the sexiest and most fulfilling Chinons released each year. From vines aged 30+ years all planted over sand and gravelly soils, this is bright, refreshing and exotic. All fermentation and elevage are done in concrete tanks preserving that vibrant fruit. An outstanding value from one of the leaders in Chinon.

93 points Vinous: "From one of Baudry’s top limestone sites. Aged 12 months in 2- to 5-year-old barrels, then rests for nine months in cement tanks. Still young and rambunctious, very juicy and full of energy, very like Pinot-like. It’s one of the fruitier Baudry expressions, with lots of black and sour cherry, some blackberry and tomato, and light stoniness on the finish. Give this a year or two and it will pay back your patience. (JW)" (07/2020) K&L Notes: Chinon is among the wonderful but relatively underappreciated wine regions that generate a lot ...

Bernard worked as an advisor to the Tours laboratory and studied in Beaune before returning to the Loire and starting his own project on just two hectares in 1975. Now holding 32 hectares throughout Chinon (about 90% of which are planted with Cabernet Franc, with the rest being Chenin), he produces some truly great wines. The 2018 Les Grézeaux is grown just north of his Les Granges, separated by a river and near the bottom of the slope in Sonnay, on gravel and clay soil. It’s the oldest plot on the estate, with the vines being around 60 years old. The n...

98 points James Suckling: "This is such a fabulous red with ripe berries, blackberries and hints of dried mushrooms and black tea. Full body and crystalline tannins that carry the wine on for minutes. Energetic and takes off like a rocket. Extreme, great wine. Drink or hold." (02/2019) 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Powerful places tend to mark wines in a stronger way than even the vintage conditions or the grape variety, and that seems to be the case with the 2015 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard. But of course there are elements of...

97 points James Suckling: "A layered and rich cabernet franc with tobacco, blackberries, bark and licorice. Full body, very fine tannins that are polished with beautiful fruit and a long, long finish. Shows muscle yet polish. Needs four or five years to soften. " (07/2018) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This vintage is profound and beautiful. The 2016 Cabernet Franc Duemani shows deep layers of fruit, with levels of crunchiness and complexity that make it memorable. The mouthfeel is silky, long and rich. The maturity of the fruit here is per...

The Château du Hureau is located in the small town of Dampierre-sur-Loire, about four miles east of Saumur and 15 miles west of Chinon. The Château itself is an impressive sight, with its 18th-century Mansard roof and octagonal tower topped by a boar-headed weathercock, from which the domaine takes its name - an hureau is an old, solitary wild boar. Behind the Château sits the winery, which was carved out of the limestone cliffs in the 13th century and overlooks the Loire river. For wine lovers, the cave is even more impressive than the Château, with num...

98 points Vinous: "The 2016 Bolgheri Superiore Matarocchio, the estate's pure Cabernet Franc, is stunning. Dark, sumptuous and super-expressive, the 2016 is a seamless, exotic beauty. Even with all of its richness, the 2016 remains finessed and nuanced to the core, with exceptional balance and tons of energy. This vibrant Bolgheri Cabernet Franc will drink well for many years. (AG)" (03/2020) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Matarocchio is a wine of muscle and brawn that opens to dark thickness and deep layers of black fruit, spice, l...

Bid on this bottle of 2010 Catherine et Pierre Breton "Les Perrières" Bourgueil. Wine Spectator: "Solid, with ripe red currant and black cherry fruit lined with singed alder, tobacco leaf and charcoal notes. Light spice shading shows on the racy-edged finish. (JM)" (11/2014)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2012 Bodegas Aleanna Cabernet Franc "El Enemigo" Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Argentina (98JS, 98RP, 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The nose of the 2012 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard almost made me fall from my chair. It is the expression of elegance and austerity coupled with strong minerality. It is mostly Cabernet Franc from a very chalky vineyard in Gualtallary at 1, 430 meters altitude that fermented together with a small percentage of Malbec. In 2012 they fine tuned the élevage and fermentation, which was in rolling 500-liter barrels that were new in 2006 (so by then quite neutral), where the wine was kept for one more year and then transferred to 1, 000-liter egg-shaped cement vats for one further year. This reminded me of my favorite Bordeaux, Lafleur, because of the elegance, the refinement of the tannins and length. ! (LG) 98+" (12/2016)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2016 Realm "Falstaff" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (98JD, 98WE, 97RP, 95JS, 94DC, 92VN). Wine Enthusiast: "This is the producer's Cabernet Franc-based blend (64%), the remainder Cabernet Sauvignon. The Franc comes from the heart of the valley's sweet Oakville-based spot for the variety, near Rudd and Dalla Valle. It's tense, focused and brawny in black fruit, violet, tobacco and sweet oak, is laced in peppercorn, cedar and dried herb, an has an Old world sensibility riding over its complexity and structure. *Editor's Choice* (VB)" (08/2019)
