97 points James Suckling: "A pristine, classic Rioja with vanilla, lanolin, sea salt, light blanched almond and nougat. It’s full-bodied with layers of fruit and intense, unique flavors. Tasting history. Drink now." (09/2020) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "95+ points "The 2008 Viña Tondonia Blanco Reserva has a subtle and elegant nose, shyer than the 2009, a little closed and undeveloped. It's a year with more acidity and less ripeness, with a combination of citrus and honey and a very dry sensation in the palate, a chalky mouthfeel. This fe...

94 points James Suckling: "Taking on a balsamic and high-toned wood character to the ripe fruit on the nose. Some dried cheese and ripe fruit, too. Medium-bodied with integrated tannins that are polished and fine. Goes on for minutes. A beautiful, traditional wine, as always." (09/2020) 94 points Vinous: "Deep garnet. Intense, mineral-tinged red and blue fruit and floral scents are complemented by suggestions of baking spices, vanilla and woodsmoke. Supple, seamless and concentrated, yet lithe as well, offering intense raspberry, cherry-vanilla and ros...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The current vintage of the special cuvée is the 2008 Kripta, a classical blend of the local grapes Macabeo, Xarello and Parellada aged in contact with the lees in bottle for a long time, no less than five years, during which time the bottle is closed with a cork (it's usually a crown stopper). Apparently this gives the wine a different character and is the way it was traditionally done. This is a polished Cava with yeast and brioche aromas and a soft palate with clean, developed flavors and integrated acidity. A ...

95 points James Suckling: "Lots of dried fruit with plum, light raisin, chocolate and toasted oak. Some balsamic undertones. White truffles and dried flowers. Medium body, creamy tannins and savory, balsamic undertones. Extreme and unique, as always." (11/2020) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The nose of the 2008 Viña Tondonia Reserva is very elegant, fresh and with an herbal twist, starting to show the complexity of the aged wines that are sometimes still too young when they are released 10+ years from the vintage! The palate is medium-bodie...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 DOIX Costers Vinyes Velles reveals a deep purple color with outstanding aromatic complexity. Notes of liquid minerality, licorice, lavender, Asian spices, and black cherry lead to a supple, savory effort loaded with spice and personality. There is a nicely concealed structure that will allow the wine to evolve for several years although it is approachable now. (JM)" (05/2011) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby. A pungent, highly aromatic bouquet evokes blackberry, cherry...

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2008 Bodegas El Nido "Clio" Jumilla (94JD, 94RP, 92WS, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Clio is made up of 70% old vine Monastrell sourced from a vineyard planted in 1944 and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon from a vineyard planted in 1979. The alcoholic fermentation is in oak followed by malolactic fermentation in new barrels and aging for 24 months in new French and American oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it exhibits an expressive nose of pain grille, underbrush, brier, mineral, blueberry, and blackberry fruit leading to a plush, opulent wine with great density, savory flavors, and a lengthy finish. In spite of its size, it is surprisingly light on its feet and can be approached now. However, it will evolve for 3-4 years and offer prime drinking from 2014 to 2023. (JM)" (06/2011)
