The 18 hectares of vines on the Blason estate in Isonzo grow in alluvial limestone soil that is also high in iron content, hence its predominantly reddish color. The growing region is at the confluence of two climate systems, that of the foothills of the Julian Alps and the nearby Adriatic Sea. This allows for white wines of fully developed flavors and aromas, but which also retain a striking mineral edge. This Pinot Grigio is vinified with some skin contact, all in stainless steel.

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Made predominantly from Carricante with a drop of Catarratto, this smooth, stunning white offers delicate, enticing scents of Spanish broom, chamomile, ripe white-stone fruit and a whiff of smoke. Savory and loaded with elegance, the medium-bodied, focused palate features juicy Meyer lemon, ripe Bartlett pear, golden apple and tangy, saline mineral notes. Bright acidity lends tension and balance. (KO)" (12/2020) 93 points James Suckling: "Fresh pineapple, apricot stone, lemon and sea shell on the nose. It’s medium-bodied wit...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Boasting finesse and flavor, this compelling, polished white opens with aromas of ripe stone fruit and yeasty, inviting whiffs of bread dough. On the smooth, delicious palate, tangy acidity seamlessly accompanies layers of ripe pear, white peach and almond before closing on a mineral note evoking saline. KERIN O’KEEFE" (10/2021) K&L Notes: Ian D'Agata writes: "A small family run operation situated in Brognoligo, in the heart of the Soave Classico production zone and founded only in 2002, Le Battistelle is making some of Soav...

Monica Larner writes in the Wine Advocate: "This winery was founded in the 1960s by a dentist named Piero Mancini who had a deep passion for wine. The estate grew over the next two decades to its current 70-hectare size. It has vineyards that look towards the Olbia Gulf in the Gallura district in northern Sardinia. Today, the winery is run by Piero's wife Marisa and their children Laura, Antonio and Alessandro."

93 points James Suckling: "I like the minerality and spiciness of this blend of pinot bianco, chardonnay and sauvignon blanc with a medium to full body, creamy texture and lots of flavor at the finish. Some flint in the aftertaste. It’s compact and controlled." (08/2020) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The lovely 2019 Alto Adige Terlaner Cuvée is fresh and buoyant with citrusy notes that are followed by wild sage, crushed stone, spicy saffron, toasted pine nut, Golden Delicious apple and crispy pear. The cuvée is a blend of 60% Pinot Bianco, ...

2020 San Francesco "Tramonti" Costa d'Amalfi Bianco
Top Pick!
Monica Larner writes in The Wine Advocate: "The wines of Tenuta San Francesco are readily available at most restaurants and snack bars along the Amalfi Coast from Sorrento to Salerno. Because this beautiful Italian beach destination is just a few hours away from Rome by car, these are low-priced wines that I drink often and with pleasure."

Wine Spectator: "Offers a mix of peach, apple and grapefruit flavors matched to a juicy texture, making this wine instantly appealing. (BS)" (07/2016)

2019 Montenidoli "Tradizionale" Vernaccia di San Gimignano
Top Pick!
97 points Decanter: "The Vernaccia grape has been documented in San Gimignano since 1276, while the Montenidoli estate appeared in a 1404 will. Elisabetta Fagiuoli and her late husband, Sergio Muratori planted the then abandoned Montenidoli with vines from 1965. Red grapes are grown on Triassic clays (very rare in Tuscany), the Vernaccia on younger, well drained calcareous ground. The Vernaccia is made like a red, a waning local tradition, with short skin contact before pressing and fermenting leaving deeply textured yellow fruit with staying power and a...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Opening with enticing aromas of Mediterranean herb, yellow spring flower, eucalyptus and citrus, this is gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. It's also delicious, delivering juicy yellow peach, fennel, white almond and the barest hint of grapefruit alongside tangy acidity. A mineral note suggesting saline adds depth. An absolutely phenomenal showing. *Editor's Choice* (KO)" (09/2021)

2020 Bruno Giacosa Arneis Roero (Pre-Arrival) (Pre-Arrival)
Top Pick!
Monica Larner in Wine Advocate: "A legendary figure in a land of legendary wines, Bruno Giacosa, passed away in Alba on January 22, 2018, with his daughters Marina and Bruna at his side. He was 88. Following a stroke in 2006, Giacosa had slowly retreated from the spotlight. His daughter Bruna has managed the eponymous winery and vineyard these past years. ... Bruno Giacosa will be remembered for his keen ability to recognize the best growing sites for Nebbiolo, Barbera and the other great grapes of Piedmont. 2018 Cantina Valle Isarco Kerner Alto Adige
Back In Stock!
92 points Vinous: "Straw-green. Lemon, lime and minty spices on the explosive nose. Then also very forward, explosive minty and juicy gooseberry flavors on the palate. Luscious but bright, with hints of herbs and ripe orchard fruit on the back end. Lovely. Drink through 2023. (ID)" (02/2020) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Alto Adige Valle Isarco Kerner (with an ample 140,000 bottles produced) is a fresh and direct expression of the grape with mild aromas of white fruit, peach, quince and spring rose. The wine offers good acidity—it is fresh w...

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "If I were stranded on a deserted island with just one bottle of wine of my choosing, it very well might be Cantina Terlano's Vorberg. The 2018 Alto Adige Terlano Pinot Bianco Riserva Vorberg is a case study in creaminess and texture, although the bouquet holds back just a tad, with a bit of stone fruit. That subtle shyness is a known characteristic of the grape. The wine is as steady and clear-minded as one of those high-wire daredevils, navigating a tightrope between two Dolomite mountain peaks. This expression ...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "You'll find aromas of ripe yellow peach, citrus and honeydew in this delicious, full-bodied white. On the rounded, savory palate, tangy acidity lifts lime, Mediterranean herbs and lemon drop candy before an energized saline finish. *Editor's Choice* (KO)" (10/2021)
Price: $19.99

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Vietti's cheerful and bright 2020 Roero Arneis reveals a punchy note of fresh lemon, waxy nectarine, dried hay and oregano. This is a lean-bodied expression that avoids the extra fruit weight or honey-like creaminess that comes naturally to this grape. In this wine, the sharper, more mineral-driven notes have been highlighted instead. (ML)" (06/2021)
Price: $23.99

92 points James Suckling: "A very striking pinot bianco that combines concentration and elegance with stony minerality. Hints of exotic fruit, flowers and spices make this a fascinating expression of this still underrated grape." (04/2021)

Not many people have heard of the Italian wine Pigato, but you'll certainly be happy you did once you try it! Supple and minerally, with a unique earthiness that plays against a vibrant acidity and subtle sweetness, this charming white wine from Liguria has personality. La Ginestraia is a new venture for Marco Brangero of Brangero in Diano d'Alba in Piedmont; he sourced the grapes from an ancient vineyard in Ortovero, seven miles inland from the Mediterranean.

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Alto Adige Pinot Grigio Tradition is another fantastic value wine that matches the simple versatility of the grape with the cool and crisp personality of the Italian Dolomites. The wine pours from the bottle with pretty luminosity, and the bouquet presents classic aromas of pear, melon, apple and almond. There's a fun touch of saffron, dried mint and crushed oyster shell that adds an extra layer of dimension and depth. (ML)" (09/2020)

94 points Decanter: "Excellence from a good co-op: fine, lifted, mineral-toned fruit joins crisp acidity and a long, savoury finish. (MG)" (03/2020) K&L Notes: Producer's notes: "It is the wine with which Belisario has experienced the greatest emotions. It was the first Verdicchio in the Riserva type. Produced since 1988 only with Verdicchio grapes vinified with the method of cryomaceration. It matures in steel and partly in toasted oak barrels for at least a year and is refined for another year in the bottle. The complexity of the production is the c...

92 points Wine Spectator: "Dry and minerally, this light- to medium-bodied white is sleek and tightly-knit, with a zesty profile of crunchy white peach and passion fruit flavors and accents of fresh tarragon, Meyer lemon peel and ground white pepper. Lip-smacking acidity drives the racy finish as it echoes the minerally stone and saline notes. (AN, Web-2019)" 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Alto Adige Terlano Sauvignon Winkl opens to a luminous and reflective appearance. Vinous: "The 2019 La Monacesca Verdicchio di Matelica lifts up with a unique, perfumed and spicy bouquet. White pepper gives way to ginger, marzipan, crushed green apple and dusty florals. It’s silky and textural, yet more savory than sweet, with a salty twang to the lime and white orchard fruits found throughout. Hints of kiwi and raw almond linger on the mouthwatering finish. Well done. (EG)" (09/2020)

92 points Vinous: "The 2018 Verdicchio di Matelica Vigneto Fogliano is floral and elegant, showing yellow and green citrus, with wonderfully pure ripe melon and a hint of raw honey. It’s medium weight hosts silky textures which are perfectly matched by ripe stone fruits, with saline-minerality adding complexity and grip, while riding a core of stimulating acidity. There’s really so much to like here. Its body, richness and primary fruit speak of the calcareous clay soils these vines grow in, at an elevation between 300-350 meters and with a full southern...
