93 points James Suckling: "A very light, fragrant style with wet stones, rose petals, pomegranate and orange zest, as well as pink grapefruit. The palate is very lacy with finely cut tannins and bright strawberries and little wild red cherries. Fresh and enlivened finish. " (10/2020) 92 points Vinous: "Crushed cherries and raspberries give way to hints of smoke and savory herbs as the 2018 Etna Rosso Arcuria blossoms in the glass. This is a pure and juicy effort, with mineral-tinged red berries and rosy inner florals that form toward the close. While l...

93 points Decanter: "Mouthfilling and rich, unveiling a lovely creamy blanket of dried cherry and plum fruit, propelled by an enlivening vein of acidity. Highly satisfying yet still youthful. (Panel Tasting)" (01/2019) Wine Enthusiast: "This opens with aromas of ripe black-skinned fruit, resin and roasted coffee bean. The warm, dense palate delivers espresso, dried black cherry, clove and vanilla alongside close-grained tannins. (KO)" (12/2018) K&L Notes: Corte Rugolin is the name of an old manor house of the late 1600`s. This property, owned by Coun...

2015 Roccolo Grassi Amarone della Valpolicella
Top Pick!
96 points Vinous: "The 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella is dark, rich and deeply alluring but with an energy that keeps you coming back to the glass. The bouquet draws you in with a mix of cherry and plum sauce, notes of sage, tobacco and hints of woodsmoke. It’s velvety-smooth, energized by vibrant acids with sweet red fruits and spices, yet it never crosses the line of becoming cloying or tiring. The balance here is remarkable, as the 2015 comes across as delicious and spry in spite of its girth and intensity. There’s a subtle coating of fine tannin and...

Monica Larner reports: "Paolo Caciorgna is originally from the Marche region in Central Italy and he enjoyed a long winemaking career in Tuscany. He came to Etna in the early 2000's and bought his first half hectare of vineyard in the Contrada Santo Spirito in 2007. His holdings soon grew to two hectares of land."

96 points Decanter: "Despite a cool, rainy spring, the 2016 vintage is one of the best in recent years due to a warm summer that never exceeded 35°C. Full of dark-fruit intensity – plum and cassis – the wine is layered with dark chocolate, black liquorice and a toasty finish with cherry notes. Velvety and extracted, it’s thick on the palate due to its youthful character. Great potential to age, with a superb natural acidity from the higher vineyard of the estate above Villa della Torre, balancing its richness of fruit and full body. (AG)" (03/2021) 95 ...

96 points James Suckling: "Lots of blackcurrants and blackberry aromas and flavors with hints of bark and mushrooms. Full-bodied, chewy and rich. A powerful red with plenty of structure and depth. This Bordeaux blend from Bolgheri is a challenger to Sassicaia and Ornellaia. " (08/2015) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Showing exceptional density and thickness, the 2012 Orma is a monumental red wine from Tuscany. The blend is 50% Merlot with Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc in supporting roles. Compared to the 2011 vintage, this edition of Orma sh...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Sagrantino di Montefalco Collepiano is a seamless beauty. Made in a full-bodied style, it offers gorgeous layers of dark cherries, wild herbs, underbrush and leather with a powerful, authoritative personality. Decidedly modern in its interpretation, it is an outstanding wine in every way. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020." (02/2008) Vinous: "Inky ruby. Aromas of blackberry, dark chocolate, eucalyptus and minerals. Begins supple and sweet, then turns a bit youthfully disjointed-and less fine-grained than...

95 points Decanter: "The nose is lean and intense, with aromas of sour cherries and a hint of coffee. Although very concentrated, it's silky, fresh and lively, with almost tangy acidity. It shows elegance and poise rather than plumpness and weight, and the tannins are well integrated. Very long, with great potential. (SB)" (03/2018) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "From the tiny Faro denomination overlooking the Strait of Messina, this cult red opens with earthy aromas of tilled soil, leather, dried berry, smoke, savory herb and a hint of game. Displaying c...

95 points James Suckling: "Plenty of dried fruit with figs and sultanas, as well as mushrooms. Full-bodied, yet integrated and polished with fine tannins and a fruity finish. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but another year or two will bring it even more together." (08/2020) 95 points Vinous: "The 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Sant'Urbano takes some time to blossom in the glass, as mineral-tinged blackberry evolves into a display of currants and cherries complemented by hints of sweet mint, lavender and violets. It’s velvety in...

93 points James Suckling: "Plenty of cherry and ripe strawberry with crushed-stone undertones. It’s full-to medium-bodied with a bitter-cherry undertone to the fruit and firm, edgeless tannins." (11/2020) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The floral impact of this wine leaves a lasting impression, and the quality of fruit veers toward wild berries and cranberries. There is a note of plush or succulent sweetness that seems very specific to this wine. The tannins are silky, and the wine is mid-weight in texture but noticeably long in persistence....

(11/2020) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Here's an exciting new wine from the Benati family that showcases their latest vineyard acquisitions in the Contrada Cavaliere in Santa Maria di Licodia (with vines at 900 meters above sea level on the southwest side of Etna). The 2017 Etna Rosso Contrada Cavaliere reveals a darker appearance and a more intens...

Bid on this bottle of 2012 Speri Amarone della Valpolicella Classico. According to Ian D'Agata: "The Speri family owns 60 hectares (148 acres) all in the Valpolicella Classica area, a rarity as most Amarone producers also own land outside of the Classico area. At Speri, they have planted mainly Corvina, Corvinone (of which they are not huge fans so they are looking to reduce its presence), Rondinella, and Molinara; the latter is viewed (quite rightly, in my opinion) as being of fundamental importance by Speri. Gianpaolo Speri likes Molinara because of its ability to give mineral, perfumed, light-bodied wines, an all-important item in the making of easier to drink, more politely-styled Amarone wines. At Speri, only five wines are made, and they’d actually like to reduce that number further in the future, with the goal to avoid confusing their customers with a bevy of different wines and names."
