91 points James Suckling: "Attractively fused florals and white peaches with lychees and apricots. The palate has a very fleshy feel with rich and juicy texture and smooth peaches and apples. Lightly sweet, full-ish finish. " (07/2019) 91 points Vinous: "Pale yellow-gold. Fresh, lively aromas and flavors of smoky duck sausage, cinnamon, rose petal and grapefruit. Very long, rich and dense Gewürz that closes pleasantly lifted and spicy. I like how light on its feet this is, despite its richness. Improves greatly with a little aeration, so make sure you ...

95 points Vinous: "The 2019 Gewurztraminer Oberer Weingarten was grown on loam and limestone with some dolomite, and the wine was made with around 30-40% botrytised fruit. Intense rose petal notes almost verge into rose oil on the nose. This is followed by candied peach. It is on the palate that the real freshness comes through. Beautiful spice does justice to the variety’s name, with pervasive pepper and lovely phenolic texture. The gorgeous, bright, fresh length is unusual but delicious. 45 g/L of residual sweetness. 98 points James Suckling: "Gewuz struggles to gain the recognition it deserves, but this is a truly extraordinary wine that is exotic, powerful and extremely concentrated, the vibrant minerality giving it a huge jolt of energy at the finish that might seem logically impossible. And after you swallow it,you feel like a cloud just floated by. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold." (05/2024)

97 points James Suckling: "Here is a radical reinterpretation of gewurz that is stunningly fresh and vital, but also has the richness and creaminess of the grape on the front and mid-palates. And as it opens up in the glass, the exotic fruit aromas unfurl and rose petals cascade. Then comes the astonishingly elegant and focused finish. Is it dry or is it sweet? Who cares? The main thing is that this is a wine for savory dishes. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold." (05/2024) 94 points Vinous: "The 2022 Gewurztrami...

92 points James Suckling: "I love the extrovert wealth of orange aromas ranging from blossoms to zest and candied peel. Wonderful balance of fruit, fine tannins and enough acidity to keep this lively. Wonderful creamy texture at the long supple finish. Drink or hold." (03/2023) Vinous: "The 2019 Gewurztraminer Classic is made from half of bought-in grapes from Riquewihr and Pfaffenheim and estate fruit from the Sporen Grand Cru. Classic Damask rose and lychee notes make up the fragrant nose; orange zest and honeysuckle soon join in. The palate allows b...

92 points James Suckling: "Plenty of spice (mostly allspice and cinnamon) on the nose, but what makes this stand out in the field of regular quality Alsace gewurztraminers is the excellent balance, with lively acidity and a hint of tannin that underlines this at the clean finish. Unusually food-friendly for this grape. " (11/2020)

95 points James Suckling: "A super-clean and crisp wine for gewurz with an intensely chalky minerality that takes your breathe away. So clean and bright it’s light years away from what anybody expects from this grape. Lovely zesty citrusy freshness at the finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold." (03/2023) 95 points Vinous: "The 2021 Gewurztraminer Clos Windsbuhl is from older plots of Gewurztraminer in the upper part of Windsbuhl on Triassic limestone. Its nose displays honey, lemon-edged rose petals and fresh ginger. While the nose si...

94 points James Suckling: "Dry and powerful style with burning spice and hot stone character as well as dried apple, pineapple and cloves. Full body, lots of fruit and depth. Very long and flavorful. Full throttle. Beautiful aged white. Drink now." (06/2017) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "A very lifted touch of fir honey hits the nose first before ripe peach with the merest touch of vanilla follow. The palate is incisive and concentrated. Alcoholic heat fires up the mellow, rich and rounded palate that brims with peachy fruit and flavor while zesty lemon ...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Very ripe pineapple and lychee aromas bound out of the glass, backed by just a hint of wood smoke. More pineapple comes through on an off-dry, medium-bodied palate, as well as some deeper honeyed notes. But vibrant acidity keeps this wine feeling light and playful. Lychee, rose and an unexpectedly refreshing hint of dill pickle last long into the finish. This is a charming, jubilant pour, with a casual feel to liven up any weeknight. 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Expected lychee notes get a pleasant lemon zest lift on the nose. A crisp, tangy, slightly saline front palate is linear and taut, but it opens up on the finish to bright lychee and lemon ice notes that give a lasting, fruity-but-not-sweet impression. (LS)" (11/2022) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Though expressive and perfumed, this has good balance, with ripe star anise, lychee and baking spices upheld by racy acidity and savory dried herbs. A dry, focused style of Gewürztraminer, with good structure and framework. (KB)" (05/2...

95 points James Suckling: "Fabulous aromas of honeysuckle, lavender, stone and menthol. Full-bodied, lightly off dry, spicy and powerful. Very long and rich. What potential. Fabulous gewurz. It should be available in the market in 2020." (09/2015) 94 points Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Gewurztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre comes from predominately Keuper marl-limestone soils in Hunawihr (Muhlforst area) and Ribeauvillé (Trottacker) which give this age worthy wine a full and powerful style. Nobly clear and elegant on the deep and concentrated b...

Vinous: "The 2021 Ambre Orange is made from skin-fermented Gewurztraminer from cooler Riquewihr. This is really orange in color. There is some farmyard-like reduction on the nose. The palate is intense with alcoholic heat but concentrated rose notions and an oily mouthfeel. This packs a punch and needs something strong and bold to stand up to it. The finish is long and bone-dry. (Bone-dry) (AK)" (04/2023)

95 points James Suckling: "Gewurz can be an impressive but tiring wine. With its floral delicacy and lively, graceful personality, this is the opposite of the bombastic norm. The touch of sweetness stays in the background and the floral freshness wins out at the long, precise finish. From biodynamically grown grapes." (06/2021) 93 points Decanter: "Offering aromas of peach, pear, spring flowers, rose and pear, the 2019 Gewurztraminer Clos Windsbuhl has an elegant, pure and delicate bouquet. Superb precision! The palate is perfectly velvety and envelopi...

93 points Int'l Wine Cellar: "Exotic aromas of ripe pineapple and honey. Superripe and intensely spicy, with firm-edged acids giving the wine a slightly more aggressive character today than the Heimbourg. Comparatively backward gewurztraminer, less expressive today than the Heimbourg. Finishes with cinnamon and nutmeg notes and some obvious tannins." (12/2003)

Bid on this 2-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 1989 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht "Clos Windsbuhl" Gewurztraminer Alcase (90RP) and 1-bottle of 1999 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht "Clos St-Urbain Rangen de Thann" Riesling Alsace (91ST). Of the 1999 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht "Clos St-Urbain Rangen de Thann" Riesling Alsace, Int'l Wine Cellar writes: "Subtly aromatic nose combines stony minerality and spring flowers; less charry than usual for Rangen riesling. Very rich and mouthfilling but quite closed today and a bit youthfully aggressive; not yet revealing its personality. Full and pliant but distinctly dry. This is chewy with extract but also seems a bit topheavy. Appears to be a very good but not outstanding vintage for this wine, but the wine is still painfully unevolved. (ST) 91+" (07/2001)
