94 points Wine Enthusiast: "From 'the oldest House in Armagnac' comes a well-balanced sipper that's reminiscent of Bourbon with its deep amber color; its rich, sweet caramel note; and bold finish that tastes of maple-butter sprinkled with clove and cinnamon. (KN)" (12/2012) 93 points Vinous: "Dartigalongue’s XO is burly, with cologne-like aromas, and surprisingly complex for its youth (10-year-old brandies in the blend). Buttery, with flavors of dried plum, candied ginger and walnut, and a spicy finish of clove and cardamom. A Rye drinker’s Armagnac. B...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Although the various whiskies in this blend were distilled in Scotland, it was then moved to France's Burgundy region to age—so it's not technically Scotch. The whiskies in the blend are over 12 years old and aged in ex-Sherry casks. The end result is a nut-brown hue and rich dried date and caramel scent. The big, rounded palate surprises with smoke, underpinned with hints of Sherry, dried fig, and caramel, with a long baking spice finish. (KN)" (12/2019) K&L Notes: Belgian Michel Couvreur was an independent bottler of singl...

From the historic Louis Roque distillery located in the sleepy town of Souillac. Imported by the inimitable Charles Neal, Roque specializes in Vieille Prune from Gascony. Perhaps the finest in its class, certainly the best of what's available in the states, the spirit is distilled using only the best Gascogne Plums. With the depth of a cognac and the finesse of a plum brandy, this Vieille Prune has an unparalleled richness. Bursting with Asian spice and ripe fruit, you'll want to keep this one in stock once you've tried it.

One of the absolute most unusual and exceptional examples of one of our favorite categories of apéritifs, Pineau des Charentes. I think these really work after dinner as well. Like the incredible Paul et Marie Pineau before them, the Navarre’s Pineau des Charentes take this whole category to the next level. They’re produced in a hyper-inefficient manner, which makes them absolutely wonderful. The Jacky Navarre Pineau Rosé is made with 6 year old Cognac and the grape must from the 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc harvest. Aged until Gnarly, meat...

This is beautiful, soft, and elegant brandy that shows brooding notes of cocoa, roasted nuts, and baking spices. The dried fruit really comes through on the mid-palate and the finish is a burst of cinnamon with a silky smooth exit. To get a 25-year Armagnac for this price is already a great deal, but to have it taste this good is practically criminal. The Delord family has been making this spirit since the late 1800s.

Domaine du Cardinat has been in the Lalanne family for over a century. Farmer and grandfather of the current proprietor, Patricia Singh, built the family home at the domaine 100 years ago and cultivated the land long before that. In 1935, Joseph Lalanne's sudden death thrust Patricia's father, Camille into the fields forcing him to leave school and commit his life to the family domaine. Just four years later, Camille planted the first vines at the domaine and his life was devoted to this patient passion. There he worked tirelessly to produce great brandy...

93 points Vinous: "This experimental blend of seven- to 20-year-old Grande Champagne is finished for 12 to 18 months in Banyuls casks. Light copper in color, it’s bright and fruity, with flavors and aromas of fresh citrus and stone fruit, but there’s significant rancio throughout. Banyuls is all about rancio, so that it makes sense, but the palate is very unique, almost the opposite of what’s expected: the spice and rancio come up front, followed by a finish of raisins and dates. A fascinating and tasty experiment. (42.3% abv) (JW)" (09/2019) K&L Notes...

Navarre makes one of the most amazing Cognacs in the world, and this lovely Pineau des Charentes is made from his 6 year old Grand Champagne stock, some sweet grape must, and then put into barrel for thirty years. Very few producers take PdC this seriously, but the result of that dedication and attention is on another level. The rich, nutty, complex palate of flavor is far beyond what most fortified wines offer. Consider this along the lines of the finest Madeiras or Ports. It must be tasted to be believed.
