For decades now, our Kalinda private label has been providing K&L customers with awesome wines at a fraction of what they'd normally pay under the producers' mainstay labels. Naturally, no producer wants their wines on the market for less than what they'd usually sell for, so the trade-off is anonymity. This is a superb Cabernet-very elegant and user friendly already. Lots of sweet cassis and red fruit aromas that follow to the palate. No hard edges here-drink it young with a prime rib or steak dinner. Will cellar well for five plus years. clyde
91 points James Suckling: "Bright and agile red fruit with a hint of dried strawberries that give it a certain amount of generosity. Some cumin spice and white pepper, too. Elegant and medium-bodied on the palate, showing some fine, dusty tannins and a juicy, sweet berry-oriented finish. 72% grenache, 13% syrah, 6% cinsault, 5% mourvedre and 4% counoise. " (07/2022)

Giacone Ranch Vineyard sits at the confluence of the Estrella River and Huerhuero Creek with incredibly rocky, gravely soils like those of Pessac-Léognan in Bordeaux. This sub-region of Paso Robles sees big diurnal shifts in temperature with hot days and cool nights as ocean air pushes in from the west. These ideal conditions produce and powerful, concentrated and opulent style of Cabernet with intense flavors and lush textures on the palate.

93 points Vinous: "The 2018 Pinot Noir Estate Upper Picnic Block is eminently charming in its sweet-fruited, exuberantly spiced, medium-weight build. Layers of kirsch, raspberry sauce, cinnamon, cardamom and iodine mark a wine of sexiness and sensuality. Again, this is a style reflective of a different era for Neely. Growing season differences notwithstanding, the 2018 checks in at 14.1% alcohol, nearly two full degrees higher than the 2021 tasted alongside. I prefer this edition, as it’s still finessed but has more stage presence and inner harmony. The ...

93 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and enticing, with alluring flavors of raspberry, mulberry and blackberry fruit suavely infused with notes of black tea and singed anise, plus a mesquite hint. Offers a fleshy feel but doesn't sacrifice tension through the savory and mineral-tinged finish. (JM)" (09/2024) K&L Notes: Sourced from the Putnam Vineyard in the Annapolis sub-region of the northwest Sonoma Coast. A small family owned and operated vineyard just above the fogline, only 5 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The fruit was cold-soaked for 5 days before an...

Wine Enthusiast: "Rounded red cherry compote aromas are lifted by spicy cinnamon on the nose of this bottling. There is solid tension to the palate, which is starting to show its age with flavors of fruit punch and tar. (MK)" (05/2024)

90 points Wine Spectator: "Polished in feel, with black cherry and mulberry flavors gliding through easily -- almost languidly -- while subtle anise and apple wood notes infuse the finish. (JM)" (03/2024)
We can tell you this much: our Kalinda private label hooks you up with awesome wine at a fraction of what you'd otherwise pay for this exact same wine under its normal label. While we have to remain quiet about the source of this beauty, we can tell you that it sells elsewhere under the winery label at a much higher premium. Get it while it lasts.

95 points James Suckling: "This just takes off at the finish, with bright, tangy acidity and plenty of minerality. Full-bodied and so tangy and energetic. Fantastic chardonnay. Hints of aniseed and flint. Grows in the glass. Delicious now, but will age beautifully." (03/2022) 94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2018 Chardonnay Estate sports a medium gold hue to go with a gorgeous nose of white peach, stone fruits, honeysuckle, and toasted bread. Beautifully balanced, elegant, and with plenty of sweet fruit and great acidity, this is a killer Chardonnay I'd be ...

94 points Decanter: "A lucid ruby-purple hue in the glass. Delicate cranberry and pomegranate fruit aromas and apple skin mingle with earth, sandalwood, and brown baking spices. Medium-bodied with a fantastic core of dark, juicy cherry fruit intermixes with cola and smoky clove. Very fine-grained tannins are almost powdery from upstart winemaker Greg Bybee. (JC)" (07/2024)

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Cassis and blueberries, dark chocolate and spiced cocoa are carried on a framework of durable tannins into a persistent finish. This wine will do well with decanting to help open up its flavors, or can be held in cellar for several more years. Drink 2028–2038." 94 points Wine Spectator: "***#75 on the Top 100 Wines of 2024*** Ripe and structured but fresh in feel, with a lovely, pure beam of cassis driving through, supported by mouthwatering apple wood, savory and iron details along the way. This red offers cut and drive, wit...

95 points Vinous: "The 2021 Hair of the Bear is an unusual blend of 75% Petite Syrah and 25% Roussanne. It’s a combination that works so well. Inky dark fruit, licorice, cloves, chocolate and sweet spice all meld together effortlessly, while perfumed floral notes lift the finish. (AG)" (07/2023) 94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2021 Hair of the Bear is based largely on Petite Sirah but includes a whopping 25% Roussanne, all from the estate Stolpman Vineyard on Ballard Canyon. It follows the house style and is focused and vibrant, with medium to full-bodied ...
96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Cuvee 99 checks in as 66% Grenache, 21% Syrah, 11% Mourvèdre, and the rest equal parts Viognier and Roussanne. It has a decidedly Rhône-like nose of ripe blackberries, currants, saddle leather, cured meats, lavender, and pepper. This carries to a medium to full-bodied, rich, sexy red that's just about overflowing with personality and character. It has some firmer tannins, but the balance here is terrific, it stays fresh and lively, and it’s just a savory, complex, complete wine that delivers the goods." (08/2021) K&L No...

A phenomenal single vineyard Cabernet from a small hillside block in the Santa Cruz Mountains with illustrious neighbors such as Mount Eden Estate and Ridge Vineyards' world famous Monte Bello Vineyard. Even though Porterhouse winemaker / owner Adam Comartin has been working with Black Ridge fruit for over a decade, this small vineyard is now quickly gaining notoriety amongst boutique producers across NorCal. Nestled in the hills above Los Gatos this site produces serious, structured wines. With a moderate climate cooled by coastal breezes and vines grow...

Coming from a small one acre vineyard in Woodside, CA, Whiskey Hill Cabernet Sauvignon is a true boutique production with just 2-3 barrels made each vintage. This area at the foot of the Santa Cruz Mountains is historically significant to California Cabernet as the site back in the 1890s that Emmett Rixford planted his cuttings brought from the famed Chateau Margaux in Bordeaux. The moderate climate and Franciscan Shale soils here are perfect for Cabernmet Sauvignon. A special winery-direct deal brings this unique little wine to you at a fantastic price....

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Clean and mineral-driven aromas of wet rocks, macadamia nut and Meyer lemon cream make for an inviting nose on this bottling. There's a chalky frame to the palate, where citrus flavors burst forth alongside Pink Lady apple for a crisp sip. (MK)" (07/2022)

92 points Int'l Wine Review: "A delicious blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier that is wonderfully balanced between the racy acidity, the firm structure and the medium-full body. The nose displays subtle hints of ripe yellow pear, lemon-lime, graham cracker, and white grapefruit pith. The mousse starts out strong but mellows out with time in the glass with notes of Rainer cherry, lemon zest, and cinnamon brioche. For the price point, this wine over-delivers in spades." 90 points Wine Spectator: "Rich, polished and sleek, with expressive raspber...
98 points Int'l Wine Review: "The 2022 Martin Woods Pinot Noir from Koosah Vineyard is a true standout, showcasing a glowing neon ruby core with a subtle bluish rim. This vintage bursts with rich and deep fruit aromas of mountain blueberries, complemented by green peppercorns, sassafras, dried rosemary, and crushed walnut shells. The depth of fruit is beautifully balanced by an underlying tension, creating a captivating interplay on the palate. Medium tannins and moderate acidity frame the wine, while the long, lingering finish leaves a lasting impressio...

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "An inviting floral note in the aroma leads to beautiful cherry and berry flavors and an agreeable, moderately tannic texture in this full-bodied but approachable wine. It shows more complexity with each sip, and ends with a lingering finish. Best from 2026-2036. (JG)" (04/2024) 92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature Series Romeo is another uber-ripe wine with charm. Blue fruits, plums, graphite, scorched earth, and chocolate all define the nose, and it's full-bodied, with a ripe, round, opulent mouthfe...

92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2017 Pinot Noir Rancho La Cuna comes from a site in Santa Barbara County and spent 20 months all in new French oak. It has an incredibly exotic, singular bouquet of mint, ripe red and blue fruits, sassafras, and spice. This carries to a medium-bodied Pinot Noir with good fruit, building tannins, well integrated acidity, and a clean finish. 94 points Vinous: "The 2010 Chardonnay Le Bon Climat opens with knock-out aromatics. Translucent and super-expressive, the 2010 boasts an enticing mélange of aromas, flavors and textures that is compelling. A host of orchard fruit, spice, butter, pastry and pear open up, but it is the wine's textural beauty and overall feel to be absolutely irresistible. Just entering the early part of its drinking window, the 2010 is an absolute jewel of a wine. Jim Clendenen seems to take things in stride. Once the darling of American wine, then cast off into near-obsc...

97 points Decanter: "Immediately evokes Old World style on the nose, with a bouquet of mushrooms, arboreal earth and a tinge of black fruit, but on the palate, a generous helping of dried currant, figs and plums. Atypical for a varietal Cabernet Franc in that the pyrazine note is next to nonexistent. But there is a freshness and acid backbone that threads beautifully through a well-balanced and delightful wine. (JG)" (02/2024)

Lush, velvety, creamy, bursting with berries, fragrant flowers, and soft wafts of vanilla, the 2001 Knox is a wine for hedonists. The aromas are dominated by red fruit and berries, but there is the usual Santa Maria hard spice (juniper berry, black pepper, cardamom), earth, lavender, and mushroom. The structure of the 2001 will allow it to age in spite of its young vine provenance. The mouth is intense and acidic with disengaged red berries, citrus and spice. The high elevation source of the fruit, low yields, careful handling and minimal processing afte...

The Santa Lucia Highlands, located on the east-facing terraces of the Santa Lucia mountain range, has a rich history dating back to the 1790s when Spanish settlers first planted vinifera grapes. Though initially focused on vegetable farming, the region's true potential for winegrowing was realized in the 1970s by pioneers like Nicky Hahn and Rich Smith, with the area becoming famous for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay by the 1990s. Officially designated an AVA in 1992, the region now spans 5,700 acres, producing some of California's most sought-after wines...

95 points Vinous: "The 2014 Au Bon Climat 2014 Nebbiolo Punta Exclamativa, all the very rare Michet clone, is a dark, brooding wine. Black cherry, spice, blood orange, leather and menthol open first. A wine of real depth and power, the 2014 opens beautifully with time in the glass, finishing with tremendous substance and intensity. Hints of tobacco, leather, licorice and wild herbs inform the persistent finish. The 2014 spent five years in oak. It's as fine a Nebbiolo as I have tasted in California. Superb."

94 points Vinous: "The 2014 Nebbiolo Bricco Buon Natale is bright, precise and beautifully lifted. Kirsch, white pepper, cedar, mint and floral notes give the 2014 a super-classic profile redolent of Nebbiolo character. Medium in body and sinewy, the 2014 is a classically built, austere (in the best sense of the word) wine that offers tremendous varietal character. That's pretty much all there is to it. I'd love to serve this to a die-hard Burgundy lover. Striking aromatics meld into an expressive core of fruit in this bold, sensual Pinot. This is at once rich yet accessible. Fine, silky tannins frame a finish of exceptional elegance and pedigree. 94 points Vinous: "Another striking wine, the 2010 Pinot Noir Isabelle bursts from the glass with serious depth. The aromas and flavors are a bit on the darker side of the spectrum in the 2010. Black cherries, licorice and sweet spices all blossom as this large-scaled, voluptuous wine opens up over time. This is one of the more overt Pinots I have tasted from Jim Clendenen in a while, but all the elements are in the right place.
