94 points Wine Spectator: "Bold aromas of rose petal and orange blossom open to dynamic blackberry, licorice and smoked pepper flavors, building tension toward medium-grained tannins. *Highly Recommended* (TF)" (04/2021) 92 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Coming from a site that was originally planted in the 1850s (the vines for this release date back to the 1890s), the 2019 Red Wine Bedrock Vineyard Heritage offers a medium ruby/plum color as well as a beautifully complex nose of cherries, red plums, lavender, herbes de Provence, and pepper. Quite structured and...

In 1973, Daniel Dugois bought 2 hectares of vineyards and a house equipped with wine cellars in a village called Les Arsures, where he was born. He cultivated the vineyard and sold his production primarily to Henri Maire, one of the most prominent producers in Jura at that time. In 1982, Daniel made his first harvest in his own cellars and began to sell his wines to consumers. His first ever harvest earned him his first Gold Medal for his Chardonnay at the Jura Wine Contest. Daniel and his wife Monique have continued to work on the quality of their wine...

A new addition to the K&L inventory and to the Jura AOC as a whole, Patrick Ligeron's Domaine des Carlines is quickly making an impression not only on Jura geeks, but also on fans of terroir in general. The domaine vineyard holdings lie partly within the Château-Chalon sub-AOC, each one delivering its own particular expression of the Chardonnay and/or Savagnin grapes. New additions to this year's portfolio include Poulsard and Pinot Noir.

Vinous: "The 2019 Valpolicella Classico Lucchine is fruit-forward and refined, displaying a mix of ripe red and blue fruits, sweet herbs and white smoke. Its juicy textures give way to a more savory display of tart cherry and minerals and a twang of savory spice. This cleans up beautifully, leaving inner violet tones and hints of bitter coffee. (EG)" (02/2021) K&L Notes: There was a time when Amarone was one of the most popular Italian red wines in America. The once slightly sweet, high-alcohol wine went toe-to-toe with late harvest Zinfandel for a cou...

Wine & Spirits: "Cinnamon-spiced tannins add a dry edge to this wine’s sweet, cherry-berry fruit, wanting red meat to balance." (08/2021) K&L Notes: A perennial hit at K&L, this is a bistro-styled red which is brightly structured with a medium-bodied drinkability and broad versatility with food. It is sourced from vines averaging 28 years old and the wine is aged in previously filled French oak. Transport yourself to the Eastern Mediterranean in a warm evening breeze. Greek wines like this are good at crossing over a white for a red or a red for a whit...

92 points James Suckling: "A really delicious Frappato with strawberry, cherry and lemon aromas and flavors. It’s medium-bodied with lovely density and freshness. From organically grown grapes." (12/2020) 90 points Vinous: "The 2019 Il Frappato di Vittoria is pleasantly fruit-forward, a dusting of sweet spices giving way to ripe cherries, incense and dusty dried flowers. It’s soft-textured with a tart display of raspberries and pomegranate, cascading along a core of brisk acids as inner rose notes amass toward the close. This tapers off incredibly fres...

92 points Wine & Spirits: "Initially rich, with sweet notes of licorice and green herb scents of thyme, this opens with air into a plump red that feels completely saturated with ripe blackberry and purple plum flavor. Ducky and delicious—especially if decanted for seared *magret de canard. (JG)" (06/2021)

Encircled by the Grand Rhone, Petit Rhone and the Mediterranean, Camargue is famous for its wild horses, lakes, salt marshes and rice fields and is the largest river delta in Western Europe. The property was acquired by the Michel family in the late 1950s and is now run by Jean-Paul and Patrick Michel. Since 2006, the brothers have worked organically and are certified by Ecocert. A blend of Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Nacional, and Touriga Franca. From the producer "The wine is dark purple in color with an electric pink rim. On the nose the wine has aromas of fresh blackberry, dark cherry, black plum and blueberry, with secondary notes of violets, purple lilacs, cracked pepper and dried herbs. On the palate the wine is medium in body with pleasant acidity, fresh dark fruit, medium tannin, and a fruit driven finish. The perfect everyday red."

Cruse Wine Co. has emerged as one of the most vocal proponents of North Coast Valdiguié and the "Monkey Jacket" shows the darker, meatier side of this under-the-radar grape. Winery tasting notes: "Raspberry tart, sweet summer flowers, bramble, and the slightest hint of grilled meats and cherry pie. Bright, crunchy acidity, refreshing finish with just a bit of simple tannins that cleanse. If a red wine can be thirst quenching then this is it. Composed of 51% Valdiguié, the remainder coming from Carignan, Syrah, and red field blend from the North Coast of ...

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This earthy, slightly funky blend of 78% Carignan, 15% Grenache and 7% Mourvèdre opens with aromas of cranberry, turned earth and dusty herbs. The palate’s crunchy, tarry tension is loaded with blistered raspberry flavors and an underlying earthy funk. (MK) " (09/2021) K&L Notes: Birichino is not a brand-new winery, having been around for a decade now, but its popularity is gaining strength as people look toward older California vineyards for their vibrancy and concentration of fruit. Founders Alex Krause and John Locke sour...

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2020 La Marchigiana Criolla Chica is a rosé produced with Criolla grapes, and it has a nose and palate that make me think more of a white wine than a pale red. The grape is mentioned as a traditional pink grape on the label, and the wine is subtle and elegant with floral notes, perfumed and fresh, without the rusticity and tannins often associated with Criolla grapes. (LG)" (03/2021)

A blend of Garnacha, Samso (Carignan), Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah it is fermented in tank and then aged in 500L used French oak barrels. This wine has always been considered the "entry level" offering for Clos Figueras, a brighter fresher interpretation of the region. This is an unadorned expression of Gratallops. This wine has everything you could want from Priorat; great aromatics mixed berries, wild meditereanan herbs, spice and that earthy mineral drive from the llicorella soils. The used oak speaks volumes for what it does to the wine and for w...

Filomena is a very small project owned and operated by winemaker Luke Nio and his (soon to be wife) Kat. Winemaker's Notes:"33% whole cluster indigenous yeast fermentation, aged in a 400L new oak puncheon and two stainless steel drums. (11/2020) 90 points Wine & Spirits: "This French cross between grenache and cabernet sauvignon produced a floral, black-cherry-scented wine in the granite soils of Garzón. Its initial richness comes into focus with air, the fruit turning bright and juicy while the tannins hold it dry. Decant it for a mixed grill of lamb and eggplant. (JG)" (06/2021) 90 points Wine...

Alfrocheiro is the Portuguese name for Trousseau. We are more familiar with that varietal grown in cooler more mountainous locales in the Dao and the Jura. This is grown in the eastern foothills of the Alentejo, a significantly warmer region. This wine is all charm, what it lacks in acid and subtlety it makes up with fruit and ease. This is a red wine with an exotic name, approachable fruit and acidity, with an intriguing accent of spice and Portugusese earthiness. A great wine for the summer, delicious by itself but will pair well with anything off...

Importer's notes:"Maison Angelot, while not trying to emulate Burgundy or even neighboring Savoie in the complexity of its wines, simply makes delicious, food-friendly wines year in and year out. For us, they are a perfect representation of what makes us unique as an importer, what we have always tried and are still trying to do in the wine world... 100% destemmed fruit, 100% carbonic maceration that lasts 10 days. Deep ruby color, aromas of black cherry, licorice and pepper. A bit deeper than the Gamay, and with a touch more tannin. An excellent match f...

The vineyard exists in a microclimate that keeps the vineyards cool, situated between the Loire River and the forest of Cheverny, Chambord and Solonge and has been Ecocert certified since 1998. " (08/2020) K&L Notes: This is a slightly unusual blend of 48% Sangiovese, 25% Grenache, 16% Syrah, with 8% Barbera, and just 3% Zinfandel, from McDowell Valley Vineyards in the Hoplan...

92 points Vinous: "The 2019 Etna Rosso Sciare Vive lifts up with notes of crushed stone, sage and dried black cherries. It’s silky and pliant with a cool-toned display of wild berries and minty herbs, further lifted by saline-minerality, yet with slow-mounting tannins that come forward toward the close. This is persistent, leaving a coating of primary fruit concentration that lasts through the structured finale. The Sciare Vive is sourced from vines ranging from 50 to 130 years old in the Malpasso cru on the northern slope of Etna. Give this another year...

Tajinaste was one of the first (maybe the first?) of the many Canary Islands wines to be selected, represented and championed by importer José Pastor. From the island of Tenerife, known for its high elevation vineyards and other worldly landscapde, Tajinaste has once again crafted some of our favorite releases. In my mind, it is arguably the most consistent as well, producing wines that both excite the most critical palates while pleasing those who simply want something delicious to drink.Tajinaste's Tradicional is made entirely from Listan Negro, which ...

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The red blend 2019 Pencopolitano was produced with 50% Cinsault and 50% País from old vines on granite and basalt soils. It fermented with 60% full clusters and was bottled at 12.5% alcohol after 10 months in oak and concrete vats. This is perfumed and ethereal, going more in the direction of Imaginador, with more finesse and sharper than previous years and with more País, going for a much more serious wine. The palate is vibrant and austere with pristine flavors. (LG)" (08/2021) K&L Notes: Pedro Parra is best ...

It was fermented with whole clusters in foudre and aged in a combination of foudre and 500L used barrels. This is one heck of a delicious, textured red to enjoy over the coming 4-6 years or so." 92 points Wine Spectator: "Refined and nicely structured, with handsome dark plum, licorice and peppered beef flavors that finish with fine-grained tannins. Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2029. " 9...

92 points Wine & Spirits: "Lodi’s Bechthold Vineyard may be the oldest cinsault source in California, a dry farmed site on a decomposed granite wash from the nearby Sierras. It can produce cinsault of unusual depth, and yet Birichino’s bottling consistently goes against type for such a warm place: This is just 13 percent alcohol, but punches above its weight with a peppery freshness and verve, light bodied and mildly herbal, with vibrant acids for a charcuterie board. (PJC)" (01/2021) K&L Notes: Few brands occupy as many spots on our shelves (or websit...

Grown in the Las Batuecas Sierra de Francia Natural Park, a UNESCO protected as a national park biosphere reserve, near the Portuguese border due west from Madrid. Rufete is more commonly seen across the border, in the Douro or in the Dao. It is a thin skinned variety that produces lighter bodied, fresh wines with a delicate spice and savory tones. Think of this like Spanish Schiava, it too is grown in the mountains, these vineyards are located at 850 meters. This is an incredible aperitif wine, ideal with Jamon. The grapes are organically grown. 20...
