2016 Saxon Brown "Rosella's Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Chardonnay (Previously $60) (Previously $60)
Top Pick!
92 points Wine Spectator: "Concentrated dried apricot, ripe apple and peach pastry flavors are supported by fresh acidity and accented by hints of zesty green herbs. Buttery richness lingers on the lithe, spicy finish. (KM)" (06/2019)

2016 Hanzell "Estate" Sonoma Valley Chardonnay (Elsewhere $65+) (Elsewhere $65+)
Top Pick!
95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This impressive white delivers a core of quince, lemon rind and apple that blends with accents of white flower and lemongrass. Crisp acidity drives the freshness on the textured palate, offering elegance and plenty of layers of intrigue. This will do well in the cellar; enjoy 2021 - 2026. (VB)" (05/2019) 94 points Vinous: "The 2016 Chardonnay is a very pretty, understated wine from Hanzell. Lifted, gracious and quite subtle, it is super-expressive today. Readers should expect a finessed, translucent, incredibly distinctive C...

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Impressively saturated ruby-red color. Complex aromas of black raspberry, kirsch, Valrhona chocolate, smoke and gunflint. Tactile and quite concentrated; really dense with extract. Ripe acidity gives the deep flavors lovely clarity. A real fruit essence: the wine somewhat chewy tannins and alcohol are hidden by fruit. (ST)" (12/1998) K&L Notes: Joël Taluau is a fabulous grower in St. Nicolas de Bourgueil known for making some of the purest expressions of Cabernet Franc in the Loire, unmarred by the...

2010 Bodegas Casa Juan "Señor de Lesmos" Gran Reserva Rioja
Top Pick!
Finally, the great 2010 Gran Reserva from our favorite Rioja winery has arrived! As is the case with so many other great spots in Spain, Bodega Casa Juan is located opposite the village church, in the beautiful walled pueblo of Laguardia. The winery is a converted flour mill, featuring concrete tanks for fermenting and blending the wine, and barrels that are used for up to seven years. These are traditional Riojas in elaboration and spirit, though the site specificity of their Laguardia and Villabuena vineyards confers a fruit character all its own to th...

2008 Veedercrest St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $80) (Previously $80)

92 points James Suckling: "Some spice, meat and berry character on the nose and palate, but a little light. Fun. Linear. Classic Napa cab. " (05/2014)

2017 Domaine Claude Riffault "Les Denisottes" Sancerre
Top Pick!
94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Sancerre Les Denisottes opens fascinatingly pure and tensioned and full of crushed stones, lemon juice and rind as well as the deep, ripe and concentrated fruit of 40- to 50+-year-old vines on terres blanches soils. I highly recommend enjoying this from a Burgundy glass. The wine is full-bodied, intense and quite rich yet also fine, fresh, lively and enormously deep, which comes out in a spectacularly long, complex and stimulating elegant and salty finish that delivers very fine tannins onto your palate....

2012 La Rioja Alta "Viña Ardanza" Reserva Rioja
Top Pick!
95 points James Suckling: "Traditional and beautiful in character with plum, balsamic, orange-peel and leather aromas and flavors. It’s medium-to full-bodied with creamy texture and a long, intense aftertaste." (10/2020) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Garnacha is an important component in the 2012 Viña Ardanza Reserva, where it represents 20% of the blend (the rest is, of course, Tempranillo). 2011 was a difficult vintage for Garnacha, so Viña Ardanza was not produced that year and they jumped from 2010, which had the mention "Selección Espe...

This wine was quite a revelation to me. I had never even heard of this producer before but was thoroughly impressed by the quality of this classic, mountain-grown Cab. A little research into the estate quickly allowed me to understand why this wine is so stunning. This small, remote estate sits at 2,400ft above the town of Cloverdale. This elevation provides significantly cooler daytime highs than the valley floor below. The vines here grow in red, rocky, volcanic soils mixed with some sandstone and ancient marine sediment. The wines produced by these co...

2011 Beronia Gran Reserva Rioja
Top Pick!
93 points Decanter: "A very juicy, fruity Rioja: plump with plums and vanilla cream, softened by some tertiary character. Notes of oak lurk underneath. Long finish, a little spicy, with supple tannins. No wonder it’s a popular classic. Not built for the long haul in a dark cellar. (SJE)" (08/2020) 93 points Wine Spectator: "This maturing red retains freshness, with a plump texture and lively flavors. Currant, cocoa, licorice and loamy earth notes are supported by gentle tannins and orange peel acidity. Gentle, yet deep and focused. Not showy, but compl...

2012 Bodegas Riojanas "Monte Real" Gran Reserva Rioja
Top Pick!
93 points Wine Spectator: "This polished red shows focus and depth. Cherry and currant flavors are balanced by sanguine, mineral and anise notes. Firm, well-integrated tannins and balsamic acidity provide a balanced structure. Expressive and elegant. (TM)" (10/2020) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Balsamic berry fruit aromas are appropriate for a warm year like 2012. This is bullish and tannic, and definitely riper than most vintages of Monte Real gran reserva. Plum and prune flavors stay giant on a tannic finish. (MS)" (10/2020) K&L Notes: Bodegas Rioja...

2017 Trimbach "Sélection de Vieilles Vignes" Riesling Alsace
Top Pick!
96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Initial smoky notes of reduction make way for a pervasive, subtle but luminous lemon freshness on the nose of this wine. The palate shows exquisite concentration in lemon freshness. It's bone dry, vivid and fresh. *#2 Wine of 2020 Enthusiast 100, Editors' Choice* (AK)" (05/2020) 95 points James Suckling: "Solid white with density and searing dryness and minerality that is very impressive with sliced apples, lemons and white peaches. Super energy." (07/2019) 93 points John Gilman: "The 2017 'Selection de Vieilles Vignes' fr...

In 1973, Daniel Dugois bought two hectares of vineyard and a house equipped with wine cellars in a village called Les Arsures, where he was born. He cultivated the vineyard and sold his production primarily to Henri Maire, one of the most prominent producers in Jura at that time. In 1982, Daniel made his first harvest in his own cellars and began to sell his wines to consumers. His first-ever harvest earned him his first Gold Medal for his Chardonnay at the Jura Wine Contest. Daniel and his wife Monique have continued to work on the quality of their wine...

91 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2006 Château Barde-Haut also showed well and has outstanding notes of dried herbs, spice box, chocolaty dark fruits, and earth. It's not the most complex wine in the lineup, but it's balanced, medium-bodied, rounded, and undeniably charming." (03/2020) K&L Notes: This is made by one of our favorite producers in St-Emilion, Hélène Garcin, a talented winemaker with a vivacious personality whose wines exude as much charm and life as she does! Barde-Haut is a 250-year-old property that forms a natural amphitheater overlooking th...

2016 Loxarel (Can Mayol) "Reserva Familiar" Brut Nature Classic Penedes
Top Pick!
Can Mayol, which bottles under the trademarked name "Loxarel," is a winery that has farmed organically for 15 years. The Mitjan family, owners of Can Mayol, also employ some biodynamic treatments. They keep animals, including chickens, a horse, and a donkey named Garnatxa. While the focus is on "Brut Nature" (no dosage added) sparkling wine production, they also produce some very interesting still wines. In their chalky, high-altitude vineyards (above 2,400 feet for their highest vines, among the highest in the Penedès D.O.), Xarel-lo, Macabeo, Parellada...

The terroir-centric producer Albert Boxler devotes much time, love, and care into producing each vintage of their Crémant d'Alsace. This sparkling wine is made in the labor-intensive traditional method from a blend of Pinot Blanc, Auxerrois, and Pinot Noir. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the juice is racked by gravity into tank. Bottles are hand-rotated in the cellar and spend 24-30 months aging on the lees. It is very dry in style and consistently one of Alsace's best Crémants.

95 points James Suckling: "This is very subtle and complete with cooked lemons and apples and a complement of straw and gunpowder. Full-bodied, deep and layered with an ever attractive finish of fruit and minerals." (10/2018) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "From three separate sites, Winemaker Donald Patz has crafted a wine with an effusive nose of caramel, oak, pear and honey. The full-bodied palate is balanced by firm tannins and heightened acidity. Overall, it's fresh and fleshy in equal measure. (VB)" (06/2019)

92 points Vinous: "Molettieri's 2007 Taurasi Vigna 5 Querce is a big, big wine. Mocha, espresso, game, tar, licorice and dark raspberries meld together in an unusually ripe, flashy Taurasi. The 2007 boasts tons of richness and sheer power, but it needs at least another year to settle down and incorporate its oak. (AG)" (02/2013) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Wild underbrush and exotic spice notes mark the racy black cherry puree and cassis fruit in this rich red, delivering full tannins and a long aftertaste of wild flowers, mineral and spice. (NM)" (06/2...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "A south-facing parcel on shale soil has produced this rich wine packed with tropical-fruit flavors as well as crisper apple and citrus acidity. Aged in wood, the wine has some spice, but it really celebrates great fruit and wonderful acidity. Drink from 2020. (RV)" (06/2019) 90 points Wine Spectator: "The floral aromas on the nose draw you in, while hints of ground anise and coriander introduce the palate. Combining power and grace, the elements of ripe orchard fruit, lemon verbena and prominent minerality mingle to create a...

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The eponymous 2016 Tricó is a classic Albariño from 25- to 35-year-old vineyards on poor granite soils that give low yields. The full clusters are pressed, then the juice is let to settle before fermenting at low temperature with neutral yeasts. This stays at least one year in tank before it's bottled. These are serious and subtle wines, not exuberant or showy, with good ripeness and very high compensating acidity, but the wines don't feel acidic. This has the advantage of time and has developed further complexit...

2017 La Chablisienne Chablis 1er Cru "Côte de Léchet"
Back In Stock!
Top Pick!
92 points Vinous: "The 2017 Chablis Côte de Léchet 1er Cru is a bit compact in feel, but it more than makes up for that with its persistence and energy. Dried pear, spice, mint and crushed flowers are some of the many nuances that develop in the glass. Bright saline and white pepper accents add to a real feeling of vibrancy. Even with a bit of air, the Côte de Léchet remains one of the more inward of the 1er Crus in this range. I would give it time in bottle to see if it softens. 2010 Maucaillou, Moulis-en-Medoc
Top Pick!
90 points James Suckling: "A firm wine with raspberry and cherry character and hints of lemon rind. Full to medium body, with slightly chewy tannins and an austere finish. Needs time to soften." (03/2013) Wine Spectator: "Offers a solid core of plum and anise framed by black tea and backed by a supple, fine-grained finish. This puts on weight nicely while it airs in the glass, but stays supple and gentle overall. (JM)" (03/2013)

2005 Maison Charles Noëllat Savigny-Lès-Beaune
New!
The original Charles Noellat estate was absorbed by Domaine Leroy in 1988, yet the name lives on as a négociant label sourcing grapes from some of the finest vineyards in Burgundy. Jasper Morris, MW writes: "The Noëllat tribe are abundant in this part of the Côte de Nuits. Two brothers, Charles and Ernest, flourished in the early part of the 20th century. Charles had a son, André, who died in 1941, and whose daughter Odile married Alain Hudelot, to form Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat in Vougeot."

2017 Domaine Claude Riffault "Les Chailloux" Sancerre
Top Pick!
92 points Wine Spectator: "This sings, offering notes of grass, lemon and gooseberry, all elegantly displayed on a vivid structure. Picks up savory mineral details midpalate, while hints of cardamom and coriander mark the prolonged finish. Drink now through 2027. (AZ)" (11/2019) K&L Notes: Stephane Riffault, son of Claude Riffault, is turning out some of the best Sancerres in the region. After working with Olivier Leflaive in Beaune, you can see a streak of Burdundian sensibility in Stephane's winemaking style. With 13 hectares of vines across 4 vil...

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a barrel-fermented blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc made by Steve Matthiasson for the winery. Aged 10 months in French oak, 30% of it new, it is sublime and racy, tasting of candied lemon and exotic feijoas, with lasting freshness and complexity. (VB)" (11/2020) Jancis Robinson: "This definitely smells like an oaked Sauvignon/Sémillon blend but closer in style to a white bordeaux than anything that comes out of Margaret River in Western Australia. There are subtle herbal notes, a touch of grapefruit and clementi...

It’s full-bodied with round, soft tannins and a flavorful finish. Richer than past vintages, but turns linear and refined at the finish. Drink now. " (09/2020) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Viña Bosconia Reserva shows the ripeness of the very warm and dry year. 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Chablis Grand Cru Bougros does not quite possess the complexity and nuance of the Les Preuses this year, although it is still well defined with candied orange peel coming through with aeration. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, a touch of spice on the tip of the tongue and plenty of salinity. I would just like to see more precision and mineral tones to come through on the finish that does not quite complete what could have been a fine Bougros. Give it 2-3 years in bottle. (NM)" (08/2016)

A delicious combination of mature fruit and mahogany add to the complexity of the wine. Holding on really nicely." (09/2020) 93 points Decanter: "Autumnal, bonfire character here: savory, truffle, cinder toffee and dried black cherry. 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Merlot (64%) – Cabernet Franc (36%) offers up a pleasing perfume of dried herbs and spices, incense, creme de cassis, and blackberry. This leads to a medium-bodied, savory, structured wine with excellent balance and length. It will benefit from 2-3 years of additional cellaring and drink well through 2023. 2016 Gustave Lorentz "Altenberg de Bergheim" Riesling Vieilles Vignes Alsace
New!
Top Pick!
97 points Decanter: "The golden mean: that's what Alsace can offer to Riesling enthusiasts. A wine which is not raspingly or cuttingly dry, but not unctuously sweet either; a wine with backbone and structure, yet which can still tease and charm as only Riesling knows how. That's what you'll find in this Grand Cru version from the celebrated Altenberg de Bergheim vineyard: its sunny, south-facing marls have produced a tender, intricate yet round-contoured version with scents of summer fruits and citrus peels, and limpid, vivacious flavors given gravity by...

2016 Greywacke Chardonnay Marlborough

95 points Sam Kim: "Wonderfully fruited and gorgeously expressed, the bouquet shows nectarine, rockmelon, lemon peel, nougat and brioche characters with a hint of flinty complexity. The palate is superbly weighted and expansive with terrific fruit power and elegant oak infusion, leading to an impressively long delicious finish. At its best: now to 2024." (11/2019) 94 points Bob Campbell: "Elegant, lively chardonnay with ginger, toasted nut, white peach, citrus-lime and some struck flint savoury character. " K&L Notes: Winery notes: The Hilt Estate Chardonnay is made up of fruit from the three maritime influenced vineyards in the southwest corner of the Sta. 92-94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah blend 2009 Buty Columbia Rediviva Phinny Hill Vineyard, tasted out of separate barrels, will see two years in barrel, followed by a year in bottle prior to release. While I’m not sure this hits the heights of the ’07, it shows loads of promise with all of the samples possessing beautifully ripe black fruits, solid complexity, and a serious, structured feel. My guess is that it will reward cellar time, and have a long drink window." 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Supple and sturdy, this beautifully...

92 points James Suckling: "The chalky notes are very fresh here and lead to lemon and grapefruit aromas with a super taut, composed and gently flinty palate that has good acidity punch. " (07/2019) 92 points Vinous: "The 2017 Chablis Vaillons 1er Cru is super inviting. The interplay of richness and tension is intriguing. Lemon peel, white flowers and crushed rocks give the Vaillons terrific energy and cut. Lemon peel, white flowers and crushed rocks give the Vaillons an unusual amount of saline intensity. 2017 La Chablisienne Chablis 1er Cru "Grande Cuvée"

(07/2019) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of crisp green apple, white flowers, orange rind, oyster shell and smoke introduce the 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Grande Cuvée, a blend of lesser-known premier crus that are vinified together. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, delicately textural and fleshy, with a supple, o...

Medium-bodied, rounded, and layered, with a terrific mid-palate, it packs plenty of muscle while staying beautifully balanced." (10/2019) 92 points John Gilman: "The 2017 Santa Cruz Mountains bottling of chardonnay from Alesia is just a whisper riper than the superb Anderson Valley cuvée, but still very civilized at 12.6 percent octane. The wine is d...

90 points Vinous: "Luminous straw-gold. Varietally accurate aromas and flavors of smoke, grilled pork, white pepper and tropical fruit, but this has a lemony zing that gives a graceful mouthfeel despite a hint of chewy tannins at the back. The finish is long and ripe. Trimbach does not make this every year but only when they are able to buy good-quality grapes (the wine is made with roughly 95% purchased grapes). The most recent previous Gewürz Réserve was the 2011. About 14,000 bottles made. (ID)" (04/2018)

It’s a more racy, vibrant Chardonnay that offers lots of white fruits, wet granite-like minerality, white flowers, and hints of tart apple. It builds with time in the glass and is medium-bodied, has a rounded, supple texture, beautiful purity of fruit, and a great finish. While it plays in the lighter style of the estate, it has terrific intensity and depth. It’s going to keep for upwards of a decade."
