95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This generous although also complex wine brings in many elements. With lush tannins and concentrated acidity it has a dry, still very young character. The weight of juicy fruit suggests a future that is rich and for the long-term. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (02/2018) 94 points James Suckling: "Extremely rich and opulent aromas with blueberries, orange peel and peach seeds. Flowers, too. Full and round, offering up rich tannins and a flavorful finish. Very persistent. " (04/2017) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Dark tones of black...

Allen Meadows reports on the 2003s from this house: "Geoffroy Choppin de Janvry said that he waited until 'September 24th to begin picking. Even though we didn't have a lot of problem with oidium save for Marconnets, we threw out a lot of under ripe and hail damaged fruit. In fact, by the time we finished, we had yields of only 28 to 30 hl/ha, which means that we threw out close to 25% between what we left in the vineyards themselves and on the sorting table here at the cuvérie. I went for slightly less extraction at the end of the fermentation because w...

93 points James Suckling: "Fragrant nose of black raspberries and summer flowers with a delicate hint of oak. Suave and sophisticated, this is light on its feet, like a tiny dancer, but held aloft by a very solid support of fine tannins. Drink or hold." (07/2021) 88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Village exhibits aromas of cassis, sweet berry fruit, exotic spices and loamy soil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety and charming palate that's bright, precise and penetrating. More refined than its 2018 counterpar...

Many know Faiveley as one of the larger négociants of the Burgundy region, but some do not realize that Domaine Faiveley also produces wine from over 330 acres of estate-owned vineyards, which includes Aux Vignerondes in Nuits-Saint-George. In issue 236 of The Wine Advocate, William Kelley rates the 2015 Burgundy vintage as "extraordinary" and notes that reds are "the indisputable strength of the vintage."

The oldest son of famed winemaker Marc Colin, Pierre-Yves Colin worked at his father's estate for more than 10 years before founding his own winery with a vineyard he inherited from his family. According to the importer, Skurnik Wines, Pierre-Yves is now considered one of Burgundy's top producers and his reputation is improving with every vintage.

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Sourced from the producer's flagship monopole vineyard, this blackberried sip spotlights ripe but pristine berry and cherry flavors accented by whispers of smoke and peppery spice. Moderately full in body, it's silken and supple in mouthfeel, with a glossy fringe of tannins that linger on the finish. Lovely already, the wine is likely to improve through 2035 and hold further still. (AI)" (12/2021) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Aromatic, boasting cherry, strawberry, sandalwood and green olive notes, with ripe berry fruit flavors...

93 points Wine Spectator: "Well-defined aromas and flavors of strawberry, cherry, rose and stone are the hallmarks of this expressive red. It firms up nicely, yet remains poised and sophisticated, with fruit, tobacco and iron accents lingering on the finish. (BS)" (05/2021) Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Here too the oak is quite subtle and easily allows the more sauvage-inflected aromas of forest floor and various dark berry scents to be appreciated. Once again the mid-palate of the slightly bigger and richer flavors is very supple and rounded that also ...

90-92 points Vinous: "The 2018 Volnay Village comes from several parcels. It has a very pure bouquet of wild strawberry, cranberry and light crushed stone aromas, all delivered with fine delineation. The palate is very well balanced with chalky tannins that frame the open-knit, pure red cherry and strawberry fruit, leading to an elegant, persistent finish. Joyful. (NM)" (01/2020) 89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is also wonderfully fresh and bright with its nicely elegant red cherry, currant, spice and softly earth-inflected aromas. Once a...

93 points Wine Spectator: "Well marked by sweet oak, this red nonetheless offers ample black cherry, plum, earth and iron flavors that should emerge with bottle age. It also has a solid grip of tannins that curtail the finish for now. (BS)" (05/2021) 90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is very Pinot in style and particularly aromatically with its pretty and perfumed nose of red and dark raspberry that is laced with floral and soft earth hints. I very much like the underlying tension of the sleek, even silky, middle weight flavors that exude evid...

Allen Meadows - Burghound: " A more elegant nose features notes of herbal tea, red and dark currant and plenty of earth influences. There is both more energy and detail if less richness to the sleek, delicious and lingering finale that is refreshing even with a hint of warmth. This too is very good for its level and worth checking out. *Burghound Outstanding*" (01/2021) K&L Notes: 91pts Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "Rich deep purple, this also has an almost too ripe nose but more in ultra ripe grapes rather than prunes, and the acidity is good. This ...

91-93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright dark red. Captivating precision to the aromas of flowers, crushed stone, chocolate and cardamom. Sweet, silky and smooth but with excellent energy to the dense berry and spice flavors. Still a bit youthfully tight but spreads out impressively on the long, perfumed finish. This weightless wine leaves the salivary glands quivering." (01/2014) 89-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An overtly spicy nose of cool and earthy aromas of red currant and elegant floral notes. There is good deline...

2001 Domaine Faiveley Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les Porêts-St-Georges"
New!
87-90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is almost a hypothetical blend of the Lavières and the Marchais, combining the density and mid-palate concentration of the former with the robust, muscular, structured quality of the latter. Complex, dense, direct, rustic and honest with plenty of grip and length and this too will require patience before it will be at its best." (01/2003) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark, bright red. Sweet, perfumed aromas of cherry, dark berries, flowers and mint. Juicy, cool and on the lean side, with mod...

89-92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: " Firm reduction blocks an evaluation of the nose today though the underlying fruit does seem ripe. There is excellent vibrancy to the subtly mineral-driven larger-scaled flavors that possess better depth and persistence on the muscular, serious and youthfully austere finale. This is very Nuits in character without being overly rustic." (01/2021) 90-92 points Vinous: "The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Porrets-Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a tightly wound bouquet, iris and incense notes dominating at the moment, s...

89-91 points Vinous: "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a slightly rustic, ferrous bouquet that needs to knit together during the remainder of its élevage. The palate conveys satisfying sapidity and steely tannins. The taut, brisk, stony finish disguises the warmth of the growing season. Superb winemaking on display here. This is Pierre Duroché’s largest cuvée at 57 barrels. (NM)" (01/2020) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of ripe cherries, wild berries, spices and rich soil tones introduce the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, a medium-bodied...

90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Volnay 1er Cru Les Brouillards exhibits beautiful nose notes of orange rind, wild berries, cassis and rose petals. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and satiny, with a lavishly textural attack, melting tannins and a succulent core of fruit, concluding with a long finish. In 2016, this cuvée was so small that Glantenay included it in his Volnay AOC, but happily, 2017 marks its return to the range. The disarmingly modest Thierry Glantenay is emerging as one of the Côte de Beaune's most ...

87-90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A brooding and notably ripe nose combines notes of plum liqueur and dark currant with those of warm earth and wood toast. The medium weight flavors are also quite rich and suave with reasonably good energy on the dusty and rustic if somewhat short finish. This may better harmonize in time." (01/2021)
Price: $79.99

89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A particular success is the début 2019 Monthélie Rouge, a lovely wine that unwinds to reveal notes of raspberries, plums, orange rind, spices and peonies. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's tightly wound and mineral, with real intensity and cut. I sensed that Loïc was just as taken aback by how well this has turned out as I was. Four barrels were produced. (WK)" (01/2021) K&L Notes: PLEASE NOTE: This pre-arrival item is being offered without any added tariffs. If there are applicable tariffs ...
Price: $99.99

91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Soft but not imperceptible wood frames the aromas of baked plum and abundant wisps of both spice and floral nuances. The suave, round and enveloping middle weight plus flavors possess plenty of minerality and overt power and muscle that really comes up on the sappy and palate coating finale where the only nit is a hint of warmth. As is typically the case with Clos des Chênes, this is very compact at present and is going to need 12+ years to arrive at its peak, perhaps even a few years longer. *Sweet Spot, Outstand...

88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echézeaux exhibits aromas of cherries, plums, orange rind, smoked meats and loamy soil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and succulent palate that's ripe and supple, concluding with a savory, meaty finish. (WK)" (02/2020)
Price: $79.99

88-90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Reduction knocks down the nose today but there is good freshness and zip to the finer middle weight flavors that are at once sleek and delicious while displaying evident minerality on the dusty and slightly angular finish where a touch of rusticity appears. This is quite firm and will need at least some patience to become more approachable." (01/2021) K&L Notes: two-thirds of the total is from Les Argillières, a lieu-dit that directly abuts Musigny on its northern border with the rest being from Les Maladières, ...
Price: $99.99

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another fine cuvée is the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur Bas, a wine derived from the part of this lieux-dit classified at the communal level, where Roty observes his grapes are always especially thick skinned. Offering up aromas of cherries, raspberries, cassis and rose petals, framed by toast oak, it's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and muscular, with the most depth and structure of Roty's three lieux-dits. (WK)" (01/2021) 92 points Vinous: "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur Bas is very well def...
Price: $79.99

89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A discreet dollop of wood toast frames the spicy aromas of plum, cassis and exotic tea. There is again fine volume to the rich, velvety and seductive middle weight flavors that possess very good punch that carries over to the succulent and sappy if mildly austere finale. This is lovely and very Vosne. *Burghound Outstanding!*" (01/2021)
Price: $99.99

93 points Wine Spectator: "A concentrated nugget of cherry is bound up in the depths of this red. Features a silky exterior and holds together well, flexing some tannins on the finish. Should come into its own in a few years. (BS)" (09/2017) 89-91 points Vinous: "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Au Closeau 1er Cru has a wonderful bouquet of red currant, cranberry and light sous-bois aromas, all very focused and nicely detailed. The palate is equipped with fine, supple tannins that render this a pliant Gevrey-Chambertin, although there is some new oak on the ...

90-92 points Vinous: "The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Chaignots 1er Cru has a fragrant bouquet of brambly red berry fruit, plus a dusting of dark chocolate and damp undergrowth; gentle and attractive. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Fleshy toward the finish, delivering tart red fruit, this will be one of Gouge’s more approachable cuvées and should drink well for 12–15 years.(NM)" (12/2020)
Price: $99.99

93 points Decanter: "All of the parcels that supply fruit for this top-end village wine are over 55 years' old and are located in four terroirs below Volnay's Premiers Crus. Exhibiting some nobel reduction, savoury tannins and the layered. Refreshing red fruit sweetness that's the hallmark of Frédéric Lafarge's wines this has floral top notes and an elegant, refreshing finish. (TA)" (10/2019) 92 points John Gilman: "The 2018 Volnay 'Vendanges Selectionées' from Frédéric Lafarge is also excellent, with more depth and sappiness at the core than the strai...

2019 Domaine Faiveley Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les Damodes"
New!
92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of cassis, plums, orange rind and spicy new oak preface Faiveley's 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes, a medium to full-bodied, deep and lively wine with a concentrated core of fruit, framed by powdery tannins. Concluding with a long, mineral finish, it's another fine bottling from this cool, high-altitude and northeast-exposed site. Jérôme Flous told me that Faiveley began picking on September 9, finishing by the 20th, and that yields averaged out at around 35 hectoliters per hectare in whit...

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Domaine Thierry et Pascale Matrot Blagny Rouge 1er Cru "La Pièce Sous Le Bois". Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A subtle application of wood serves as an unobtrusive backdrop for the mix of upper and lower register aromas of both red and dark cherry, raspberry, earth and soft floral nuances. There is solid volume and plenty of punch to the lightly mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that possess a clean, cool and restrained mouth feel, all wrapped in a saline, balanced and lingering finish. " (04/2015)
